Pretty purple 😍
Beautiful effort to demo the change in timbre with pick thickness. Thank you.
I played with the Orange .60 for the first 14 years of my playing, then I switched to the Green .88 and now I go back and forth with .73 and .88
I use the 1.0 mm pics, they've been my favorite ever since using them about a year ago. The matte finish sold me on it. Although I mainly use the plucking technique, these are the pics I go to for any song that calls for picking
Great review. I've been playing bass 40 years and was never a pick user. Tried the giant felt pick back in my first years playing and it just didn't work for me. Fast forward to a few years ago where I was given one of these picks, the 1.14mm size. I actually like it! I use it mostly on my Squier Bass VI. I prefer thicker picks with a grip but this serves my purposes well, considering my limited skill with pick playing. I love your reviews, Nick's also. Straightforward, informative and you guys are relaxed and not forcing some stupid humor into everything or trying way too hard to be cool!
for 8 years I use the Picks tortex 0.88mm and 1.0mm. Greetings from Colombia!
What a gem of a channel. ❤
I used the green ones for sure for years. I even used the ones they made with the very sharp point sometimes.
Green for sure. i'm only recently coming around to using pick for bass. It just has such a wonderfully snappy attack that works so well with heavy music.
.73 mm YELLOW for years already

Hey champ I love the yellows too, but the triangle version sounds just as good, but it's a little stiffer, a little more bass and you get 3 times the pick! Cheers.

Me too
1.14 the best! Really enjoying those picks
As a bassist, and a guitarist. I loved both the Green .88 and Blue 1.0. They provide a combination of a nice low and high end sound. I prefer the 1.0 for playing bass as they give it the extra punch that really makes the other instruments sound louder, and .88s for guitar because I don't need a really thick pick for much lighter strings. Fierce Playing, soft playing, arpeggios, they do it all.
Im a guitar player and really love the 1.14, not too thin or too thick
Cool review...I use dunlop tortex picks myself. I use the 1.0mm tortex. I also use the dunlop gator grip 2.0mm picks.
Great demo 😊 I prefer the triangle version for both bass and guitar. They are harder to drop 😅 . And you can kinda adjust the tension of the thinner gauges by applying pressure with your thumb to the center of the pick and counter pressure on the "wings" with your index and middle finger. And they are 3 picks in one if you dont need the thinner point from the "drop" model.
Although I mostly play fingerstyle andI also play slapping style, I use exclusively Tortex picks. I use different guages for different applications: orange for acoustic guitar, green for electric guitar or bass. My choice for heavy bass is the 1,0 mm blue pick. Also, because I have strong fingers and tend to bend my picks, usually use the big triangular picks.
I got the electric pick set from Dunlop, it's got the heavier tortexes plus a lot of heavy alternatives. I kinda like the gators a bit more. It's a good pack for experimenting.
I love these picks, for me, the .88 and the 1.14 are the best 💚💚
the yellow triangle ones are f**king awesome.
I've been digging the delrin 2.0mm purples lately and the 3.0mm big stubbies
Really great review man! I pretty much use the .60mm ones exclusively. They're just floppy enough to not put up much of a fight when I drone strings and play more than one string at a time, which I find myself doing a lot. They're absolutely perfect!

I'm myself a 1.14mm aficionado but since I also do a lot of open-fifth, bottleneck slide bass, etc.. you're comment definitely piqued my interest and I'll try the .60mm asap. Cheers !

I second that statement. For me it's either the tortex orange or yellows. They sound awesome on my epiphone Thunderbird
Always had used the 1.0mm but the sound of the other gauges have now intrigued me.
I like the yellow and green for bass
started using 1mm and never has disappointed me ever since.
.73 are the only picks I use! I started using them because of Duff McKagan and now they are my go to picks

I like the orange one. But i didn't use pick on playing bass.
Yellow, orange, and blue in that order but I do like the triangle versions and the purple gator grips are cool too.
Green ones are my fav for bass
I like the jazz iii nylon red for bass picking.
I use the red 0.58 to 0.88 (but on more elastic picks havent really tried it with tortex), gives more agility, more volume with less trying, and makes less noise
first of all I love all picks, I try to use and test all for years now and I am not fanboy. I use fender and dunlop jazz 3 tortex and ultex and no name, I use from 0.6 to 1.5. I use and love tortex and ultex picks . Now I have order for first time the tortex III 1.0 blue for testing. BUT IF someone told me you olny have 1sec to decide with whitch pick will all humanity play from now and forever I say the one is the Green tortex 0.88.................(sorry for my bad english language).
I used to be guy who only played with Big Chungus-tier 2+mm picks on bass, but I've really come around to the .60s and .73s. .60s are awesome for songs that require a lot of speed, and .73s are super snappy and light and great for more intricate parts
Blue-one love)
.60 was the sweet spot to my ears
The .73 and .88 sounded the best.
I use 0.88 green and 1.0 mm blue on guitar. Just can't decide which one i like more lol. Amazing picks
I used the yellow ones for around 15 years until I discovered the d'addario snarling dog brain picks. They have so so much grip on them I can't see using anything else really. The yellow tortex will forever have a place in my heart though lol

The yellow triangle ones are great, better than normal. a little stiffer, a tiny bit more bass, and you get 3 times the pick. Cheers
I've tried tortex from 0.73 mm to 1.14 and I'm very confortable with 0.88 mm gauge. If I want to use a pick with a rounder sound I use 1 mm. Jim Dunlop nylon
i really like tortex i used a 1.0 pick but it was messing around idk why i lost it and i startet to use orange and green tortex (green tortex was my first pick ever). green is my favourite by the way
Yellow is Goldilocks. Not too dark, not too bright. And sound/feel great on 6 string guitar also.

The pick of choice for Jeff Buckley, Dave Mustaine, and Matthew Bellamy.
I use the 0.88 pick on my Fender jazz
Yellow and blue depending on the genre for me
tortex are the best , i use the 1.0mm pitch black ones
I have the 0.5, 0.73 and 0.88 but I generally only use the 0.5. Going to get the 0.6 one. I play guitar tho
Purple
do one with celluloid picks too please
I go for purple because it doesn't bend and that is the only triangle pick they have at my local music store. If I play with anything else it would be the blue one.
Tortex aren't my first choice, but my favorite are the 1.14 purple triangular ones

Hell yeah
In this meantime, I dream about a tortex triangle pick that would be 1.14 on the center for effortless grabbing with 0.60 tips for effortless picking(and I actually prefer it tonewise too). If anyone knows something that matches these specs, please tell me about it !
Green is where it's at for me, I feel like dead notes and such are too sharp above that...I could probably use Yellows.
Please tell me the name of the clear thumb rest mount on that p bass. Thanks
I prefer the Dunlop Ultex .73mm.
What is the second bass the red 4 string I need to know edit I found it I’m gonna save up and buy it
I do have to disagree that they have never changed. I have a bunch of the original versions and they are different. Each gauge feels like the gauge below. I kinda want to send you some to show what I'm talking about.
yellow here, but switching to orange
For guitar yellow and for bass green Update- this is 4 years later, I now strictly play orange picks
I also have trouble finding a pick, i am using the orange for bass but after a very short time of playing it dulls out and loses that "sound", it's harder for me to find one that I can stick with on guitar, i play skatepunk and pop punk with a lot of palm muting and raking so i need a smooth enough pick that doesn't get caught in my strings. Good demo by the way 👍

The purples are amazing for bass imo. I'm a guitarist normally and have a huge range of random picks (which I barely use) and I have no idea how I ended up with one of these but it's the perfect size and thickness for bass. It's the only one I have but it's more or less as new after a good two years of Bassing. Alternatively have a look at the John Pettrucci signature Dunlop Jazz picks. They're like larger, more ergonomic jazz 3s.

Sounds more like an issue with your picking technique tbh but I would suggest trying a dunlop big stubby 2mm. They have a tapered edge and are thick af, might be what you need

All picks wear out, it's a matter of the tortex vs. metal....metal wins. Just pick up (pun intended) another and go for it.

For bass, I really like green and blue. For guitar, orange and yellow are awesome, but like pretty much everything, it’s ultimately about what feels best to you.
0.88 (green) and 1.0 (blue)
I prefer the 0.73 yellow the 0.88 green and the blue 1.00 depend on what song. FYI I’m a pick bass player
Duff mckagan yellow
I see that the orange and yellow one tend to be optimal in volume, tone and agility. Wonder why everyone is stick with thick ones

Different strokes for different folks. They might be thick handed or have differing attack on bass. I'm very fond of the orange and yellow ones myself. They lend themselves greatly to alternate picking and my flick wrist kind of attack
I'm using 60mm because Fat Mike told me to. I kinda strum like a psychopath so it helps to have a softer pick.
My bass keeps eating these thinner dunlops. I have been using an unbranded 1mm(?) pick for over a month now without too noticable wear.
Kurt Cobain used the orange tortex Dunlop .60mm
