Dunlop D606 Dual Sport Road Review (WR250R)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Running a dual-sport and wondering about fitting a set of Dunlop D606 tyres for your everyday use? Here's my thoughts on the tyres for road use after the first 500 km, from around town out to highway speeds.
Stay tuned for an update on my impressions for off-road riding.
This is coming from running a set of Trailwing tyres, which while good in the dry, weren't as inspiring to me in the wet as the D606s.

    I'm glad you got your new bike before they stop making them. It sucks yours was stolen but all the information you gave really helped to try and prevent this and what to expect if it happens to me. I'm loving these wr videos but I always watch all of your vids anyway. I bought a 2019 wr450f but after your reviews maybe should of got wr250r. Keep up the good work.

    Thanks for watching! I'm not super performance driven so I think the WR250R works for me there, but the 450 seems like a great option taking things up to the next level, if with a bit more intensive on the upkeep.

    Put these on my little DR200s a few months ago, transformed the bike off-road over the trailwings, have found the front a bit if'y, but fine for my capabilities. The added height did catch my short legs by surprise though lol. Nice vid. 👍

    Just hung my second set on my 12 DRZ400s. Hit the aggresive twistys of Mt Baldy Calif on the first (worn) set and then later with the new set. I was surprised how well they held on the turns! Of course the new set performed better; no supermoto, but had the bike leaning more than I anticipated and grab on the turns was impressive. Ride heavy shale and hard pack in AZ mostly.Only got about 2k out the first two, but some of the trails are pretty chewed from the ATV's. Air pressure plays a huge role in the hard pack/shale. As someone already commented, front tire in dirt can be sketchy if pressure is too high. Then again, the DRZ is not my XR and front wash seems to come with the territory. 63, Intermediate skill level. Ride safe.

    I definitely need to air down more, but a fresh pair of these is pretty good on the twisties, like you say, no sumo, but pretty good when you think of the off-road performance.

    @tallsaint205320 күн бұрын

    The tall, heavy D606 always turned me off as a WR250R option. Most are already lowering the gearing to help lower the high-rev power band. Going to a tall tire never made sense to me. MT21 has a better size for the WRR, so that's the route I've gone now that the AC10's are unavailable. Scorpion XCMH has been a good front for me. Good grip off road, pretty good longevity on the pavement.

  • @EricBanner571
    @EricBanner5712 жыл бұрын

    The consensus in the dirt bike world is that the D606 front is sketchy off road and I have to agree. The MT21 is the go to tyre. I run both front and rear mt21 on my DRZ400E and they are much quieter on road and much better grip over all then the D606.

    My eyebrows are up listening to this, cuz everthing was exact opposite for me. I really, really disliked the 606 for these smaller dual sports. But in defense, the front was fine its only wet pavement it slipped on me cuz its hard rubber. But the rear....the problem is its super heavy. Its over 13lbs when your stock tire was around 11lbs. More weight plus 1" taller knobs = power loss to these already low powered bikes. Surprised more people dont feel that immediately. Plus knobs on pavement feel like farm equipment. IRC TR8's I felt were much better tires, especially on pavement.

  • @MotoJournoKris

    I haven't found them too bad in the damp if they are warm. Raising the bike was noticeable though because I've also got the taller seat as well. I didn't notice any loss of power and haven't really felt like I needed more yet so that's been less of an issue. The extra grip over the Trailwing off road was welcome. I'd have to try the IRCs, I've never really seen anyone mention them locally, or seen them for sale. The bike was a bit more stable with the Trailwings pushing higher highway speeds, but still within reason on the 606s.

    @@MotoJournoKris I get the stable feeling, cuz its knobs square out compressed a little on pavement but then u lost the quick turn in from a rounder tire. If the 606 is a 90/10 tire, the TR8's are like a 70/30. Kept more of the dual sport feeling when riding instead of feeling like a plated dirt bike.

    Planned to get a set of D606 for my XT660R. I do mainly 70% road and 30% offroad. I sure do hope this tyre is stable on pavement doing around 130/140 kmhr. I also do like cornering so hope that I get it to last and get the same level of grip. What's the tyre longevity with the percentage I have provided any cues?

    I found them good up to around 130-140 previously, although that was indicated on another WR250R pretty tapped out (and probably overreading), also good through the twisties and in the wet, but I haven't had a proper chance to extensively test the new set due to being in lockdown!

    I bought a front D606 for my African Twin. Not a bad tyre but from 145km/h tends to be a bit wobbly. Iv only done 150km with and will test it on the dirt.. Maybe after some wear the wobble wobble will go away.

    I need to test more tyres, as it's definitely not as stable/planted at 120-130 on the WR, but the stock tyres are a lot more road orientated in comparison. I'm interested to see how it compares with some of the other similarly off-road focused options.

    @@MotoJournoKris I never give them a second thought when on the road. That says it all. Have a look at rides on my channel especially the wet Glasshouse rides for how they grip. My ride mate on the lead WR has D606s front and rear. We both run 16 front and rear all the time. My rear tyre is a Pirelli ScorpionMX extra X. Gets a bit slippery on wet roads. All twisty/hilly roads to get to our dirt in the Sunshine coast hinterland.

    You do know that you can drop the triple clamps a few mm and/or reduce rear sag a bit? There's no reason to accept that slow handling.

  • @MotoJournoKris

    @MotoJournoKris

    2 жыл бұрын

    I do need to mess around with the suspension and get sag properly set and maybe reduce the rear ride height within the shock and see if the forks need to be moved to keep the bike balanced. I'd say it's pretty fast though, but that may just be coming from riding road bikes so much lately, which run much wider tyres.

  • @MotoJournoKris

    @MotoJournoKris

    Жыл бұрын

    Yea I didn't notice much wear on the highway to be honest, in the few longer riders I did of 3-5 hours. It is normally fairly mundane riding compared to having a bit of a hoon at lower speeds in the back streets where it's more on/off the throttle and brakes.
