Dune: Part Two | REACTION (Part 1 of 2) First Time Watching

Ойын-сауық

Hi guys, it’s Niamh and Danny here. We’re back with Dune: Part Two and OH MY…
First of all we want to say a big thank you for all of the love on Dune (Part One). Jumping into this new story has been so much fun and it is made 10x better when we get to share our experience with other fans and learn about the lore from them!
We were so excited and nervous diving into Part 2. And woah… This movie was truly a mind blowing experience. The music, the acting, the visuals. We just had too much reaction to cut so we decided to divide it into two videos.
Part 2 of this reaction will be with you tomorrow 💙
Thanks for watching 🐭

As Paul's mother explained, when she became the Reverend Mother for the Fremen, and drank the water of life, she was given all the memories of all their previous Reverend Mothers. Since she was pregnant, the fetus received all of that knowledge and awareness as well.

Ahhhh thank you 💙 it’s so hard to follow when you’re going in with little knowledge of the book, so we appreciate that you think we followed the story well 😂 we tried to pay close attention and ‘study up’ a little before hand hahaha but I am a firm believer that no matter what world or story you are stepping into, if you pay enough attention to the characters and their actions and intentions, you’ll pretty quickly be able to figure out what’s going on. The characterisation in this movie is phenomenal 💙

It’s still nonsense that he can actually defeat Paul in a fair knife fight. Paul was not only trained by the absolute best fighters in the Imperium, he also had mentat training AND Bene Gesserit combat training. He would wipe the floor with Feyd.

I think one of Frank's points is that we create our own messiahs. There was a wise philosopher in the middle east 2000 years ago. He had some good ideas about the way people should treat each other. But it wasn't enough to just listen to the ideas. We had to build a bunch of mythologies around him. And we're long past the point where most of his followers ignore the message and just do whatever they want while claiming the evil they do is about following the man.

37:00 The Harkonnen arena fight looks to be inspired heavily by spanish bullfighting. The guys with the sickle-shaped hats would be the banderilleros, whose job in a bullfight is to tire the bull by sticking barbed darts with flags attached to them to the bull's shoulders. Apparently, it works exactly the same on Giedi Prime. I'm just realizing the parallelism. Paul's grandfather was an *actual* bullfighter, matador specifically, and was gored and killed by a bull, and the Harkonnens "perverted" the practice by fighting drugged slaves instead. (I do not condone bullfighting in the least.)

To your question at around 29:00... The thing is that the Bene Gesserit have planted themselves deep into Fremen culture, so the Lisan Al-Gaib myth has everything to do with both the Fremen and The Bene Gesserit. Only problem is that the Bene Gesserit were not longer able to control the Atreides and therefore not this Kwizatz Haderach, as mentioned later in the film :D

The original Bene Gesserit plan called for Jessica to give Leto a daughter, who would then be married to Feyd Rautha, and their child would be the Kwisatz Haderach. However, they did not figure with Jessica giving Leto a son, who would be exposed first to Spice and then the Water of Life.

As a fan of Dune since 1977 (I was 16) I absolutely ❤❤❤ your reaction. You get it. Not just this complex story, but the message behind it I'm of Orangeman descent and when I read Dune the troubles were at their height in your country. The book taught me that influence, that power of any kind brings corruption. It unlike Star Wars (which I enjoyed) made me think. 11:36 Yes the Bene Gesserit created this religion so that one of them could take control of Dune. The legend of the Lisan al-Gaib is tailored To fit the abilities of the Kwisatz Haderach, the Bene Gesserit planned for him to have access to power if he needed it. And power over spice is power over all. 26:30 Sometimes reactors don't need to say a word. ❤ 28:50 Chani is doing a little worm riding of her own if you know what I mean wink wink nudge nudge 39:40 🎉🎉🎉 You are the only ones who got that! Remember that Feyd had a dream about the Bene Gesserit before she came. He too can see the future. The Bene Gesserit want his child to make the Kwisatz Haderach. They are that close.

It was exactly the angle Paul played. He said "i need to convert the non believers" and he did exactly that, because he believers would follow him anyway. We see this when he stands between the two groups, and chooses to talk to the progressive Fremen. Of course its nuanced. He relates to them more. He doesn't believe. He resents the propaganda. And in the middle of the film he let's go of revenge he wanted at the start. But then by the end he falls back into vengeance.

Herbert wanted to show the dangers of charismatic leaders. However you also have to note Paul says the path he takes leads to the least universal death and Fremen non-enslavement and to Atreides achieving justice. His choice basically causes 83 billion deaths give or take a few billion and Fremen flourishing instead of trillions of deaths and Fremen enslavement. The path also includes human’s ability to deal with far future dangers Herbert gets into in the follow up books. Paul is kind of an Anakin Skywalker figure since George stole a bunch from Dune. Lol. In fact the general beats of both are extremely similar….No spoilers! 😂

After the deletion of House Atreides, with his mother's guidance, Paul is able to make use of the planted myths by claiming to be "Mahdi", a messianic figure from stories spread among the Fremen by the Missionaria Protectiva. The Mahdi legend has been planted on Dune and indicates to Jessica that conditions on Arrakis are truly awful, for this legend is reserved for only the harshest environments where a Bene Gesserit would need the maximum advantage over surrounding influences. Paul's rise to power is greatly aided by the Mahdi legend, as Paul Atreides, the son of a Bene Gesserit, became the Kwisatz Haderach, delivering the Fremen from subjugation, and spreading Muad'dib's Jihad across the universe..

They didnt refer to it as such in the film for fearvof islamist backlash. 2 - the Baron Vladimir Harkonnen is most definitely homosexual and a certified PDF. They stayed away from portraying him like that due to not wanting backlash from the LGTBQ brigade. I am just making interesting observations based on the political climate we are in. They dont take away or add to the themes or plot too much at all, so its not a complaint by any means. Villeneuve did the story and its themes justice.

Paul is NOT a hero he knows that the "holy war" he starts will kill billions that's why he didn't want to go south but you can't stop fate, Paul and especially Jessica who after the water of life scene has one aim, to make the Fremen believe in the Prophecy and get behind Paul so Paul with the Fremen can make a play for the throne, while its been Jessica who was pulling the strings all along, when Paul makes the fantastic speech to the fremen we see her face with just a small grin that gave me chills, she now knows that the the lies on top of the prophecy and Pauls power to see the future has given them an army of fanatics who will do anything for their messiah and the line "lead them to paradise" starts the the jihad, also did you notice that Jessica starts the movie in very light clothing but after the water of life she is now a reverend mother and the more power she gets the more dressed up she is. yeah great review but it really has to be seen in a imax cinema were i first saw it, i'm 60 years old been going to movies since i was 4 or 5 so i have seen a lot of movies over my years but this movie in Imax was the best sci-fi movie ever and the imax just made it so awesome.

Yes, the Kwisatz Haderach and Lisan al Gaib are both very separate. The former is what the Bene Gesserit have been plotting to bring about, with the intent of having him under their control. The Lisan al Gaib is one of many prophecies planted on worlds across the Imperium that a Bene Gesserit in trouble could recognise and exploit.

As a funny observation, to this American the difference between you saying "dune" and "jinn" is negligible. It sounds like you're saying the same word!

The books are so good. The movies are great to look at but they fall short at the amazing world building and lore of Dune. In the book there is no such thing as groups and factions. The Fremen are a very cohesive and act, think like one. That is actually the realistic take since it would be the only way for a tribe in this environment to survive. Herbert had a fascination with ecology and how human groups adapt to their environments.

Every group has difference of thought. That's useful. Identical views lead to groupthink and to stagnation, which ultimately leads to destruction. In small communities - a few hundred, a fraction of those in a Fremen sietch - people who think differently from the majority hide it, or leave, and the group suffers as a result. In a larger community there is, by nature, independent thought that is known within the community and strengthens it by adding new ideas.

The 1984 Dune is a fine movie, but it's not "the original". It's merely the first adaptaion of the book that made it to the silver screen. Before that, in the 70's, there was a failed attempt by Jodorowsky to make a movie. But the book is the original.

What an awesome reaction! Chani, also known by her intimate name Sihaya (meaning Desert Spring), will be a concubine of Emperor Paul Atreides. With the Emperor, she mothered Leto Atreides II the Elder, God-Emperor Leto Atreides II the Younger, and Ghanima Atreides. The book ends: Paul: “I swear to you now,” he whispered, “that you’ll need no title. That woman over there will be my wife and you but a concubine because this is a political thing and we must weld peace out of this moment, enlist the Great Houses of the Landsraad. We must obey the forms. Yet that princess shall have no more of me than my name. No child of mine nor touch nor softness of glance, nor instant of desire.” Jessica: “Think on it, Chani: that princess will have the name, yet she’ll live as less than a concubine-never to know a moment of tenderness from the man to whom she’s bound. While we, Chani, we who carry the name of concubine-history will call us wives.” Btw. The casualties in Paul's holy war were 61 billion lives, the sterilization of ninety planets, and the "demoralization" of five hundred additional worlds. Furthermore, 40 different religions were wiped out, along with their followers. The only planet that was spared the raging fire of Muad'Dib's Jihad was the home world of House Atreides, Caladan. Lady Jessica, mother of Paul Muad'Dib, refused the Fremen any access to the planet, including religious pilgrimage.

Its the great movie. At the 24:26 Paul sees a woman that at the first movie figure was Chani. At the second movie we see his mother. But my best guess at the third movie the figure will be princess Irulan. Because the actress's shoulders are wider than other 2 women. Arrakis is Iraq. Spice is oil. As you know that Iraq is the north side of arab world. At the south Yemen arabs are actually pure blood arabs that they still wield chrysknives even in 2024. Yemen ppl also more radicals then the northeners. Kwitsatz Haderach means a leap of the time or evolution of the mind in hebrew. Bene geserit is jewish cult that they control and enslave other cultures. Brainwashing that a prophet will come and save them. So Paul sees their dirty plans and he really want to save fremens at the end I guess. Athreides is greek based europe culture. Harkonens are slavic-finnish culture. Fremen is bedouin. Usul means order or custom. Gom Jabbar is forceful needle. Lisan al gaib prophecy or prophet. Fedaykin is jihadi. Anyway I think I should read books before the last movie.

Denis fundamentally changed Chani for the worse. The whole north vs. South Fremen doesn't exist in the book. The following book, Dune Messiah, is a commentary on bureaucracy and how charismatic leaders can lose control of what they have created. I understand why he changed Chani, but I think it's an error in interpretation.
