    According to an interview with Denis Villeneuve, Josh Brolin wrote these lyrics and composed the Baliset piece with Hans Zimmer. Villeneuve always seems to engage with his actors creatively and encourages them to add their own skills, beyond just acting, to the movies. Probably one of the main reasons why these films are so good.

    This was the ultimate fan service. I can’t remember ever being so thrilled and grinning so hard in a theatre. The instant I heard those dulcet notes and Gurney’s gravelly voice singing bawdy lyrics, I felt a joy and satisfaction that I know was shared by millions . The moment had finally come . The baliset made it into the final cut . If they had cheated us out of it yet again , I know I speak for multitudes when I say they’d have lost us forever

    God damn Josh Brollin was perfect as Gurney. Especially in part 2. This scene, and his reaction to seeing Paul wear the ducal signet, damn near brought tears to my eyes. Gurney is a character whose entire life is indebted to the Atreides. So getting to see that Paul survived, let alone that he’s now rising to above and beyond what his father was, would obviously make a man like Gurney want to cry. And Brollins performance sold it for me, I almost cried with him.

    Funnily enough the spacing guild allows smugglers and Fremen to sell them spice at a discount. This is also why there wasn’t any satellites over Arrakis and the south has been blockaded by the guild

  • @jakeg3733

    @jakeg3733

    28 күн бұрын

    That's shrewd economics on their part. As for the satellites, it goes deeper than that. Arrakis was the most important world in the known universe, and security was crucial. No spice, no FTL travel -- unless someone was willing to go back to pre-Butlerian days, reinvent the wheel, and start producing nav computers that could handle the insane calculations for it. And of course the Guild can't allow that. Plus, 1 in 10 ships just disappears when trying it that way. Ix seems to have somewhat mitigated this later, although we are never given a number of exactly how reliable their "dumb" FTL computers are, so it's possible deadly mis-jumps were still quite common during the scattering

  • @Zlarel

    Joining what resistance, lol? House Atreides is completely dead except for Paul, Jessica, Gurney, and a few survivors that managed to get off world and go into hiding. No other house is going to raise their banners against the Harkonnens when they rely upon the spice that Vladimir produces. And in the book, two full years go by, with Paul and Jessica being assumed dead the whole time. There is no resistance other than the various Fremen sietch's that are bold enough to disrupt spice production.

  • @DerElia

    @@olivierleduc7305 you have a point there. Gurney definetly has the skills and the will to fight against the harkonnen. However in the books you get a better jnderstanding about his motives. He does not seem to really get along with the fremen and their culture. The same is true for the other few surviving atreides soldiers who Gurney has some obligation towards. So to survive they become smugglers - wich is besides surviving a little bit like a mini resistance against the harkonnen. Also the fremen themselves don‘t really trust outsiders for obvious reasons and also are extremely dangerous so it would be a very difficult task to join them and would feel like a betrayal against the atreides whom Gurney still feels loyalty towards (even if in his understandig they‘re all dead).
