    Exactly !! What about the absence of Alia… she is not born yet, there is no explanation on her awakening in the womb or what is abomination and the iconic scene where she kills the baron is not even there … all of this explains a lot of what she will become in the future and it’s a shame because she is one of the most complex and dramatic character! There is also no explanation of the spice source and the worm cycle!

    Yeah, I understand the runtime constraints that probably caused a lot of these. I believe her awakening was from the water of life? But it was still very weird to cast Anya as Alia for just that one scene.. unless there are a bunch of others that ended up on the cutting room floor. All in all, I just feel like they should've stressed character interactions more.

    I'll admit that some part of the movie success is that expectations were low. "They couldn't make it" - but they kinda did

    Just to quickly mention I think your video quality has just been really improving. The jokes in this video are on point, the actual points are also on point and just the feeling is really good. Now to the video itself; what I got from it was simple a reaffirmation that good adaptations usual just cut a lot from tge source material. Dune itself is very ramble, which works in a book, but as a movie doesn't. It seems like what could have made it better was simply just changing what was needed for a movie to work. Still a really good movie though. Its presentation is something to envy.

    Yesss, the production values are world class. Well-worth a watch in the cinema. And yeah, the book is very rambly, wordy, monologue-y, and it seems to me you can't just take all of that out and not replace it with anything. Thanks so much for the feedback. Given that you've been watching my videos for a while, it holds a lot of weight.

    @@CynicalWarlock I would love to see more of the production value in other movies. Dune may have issues but production and presentation is not one of them. Random thought here but I think the director of Dune could make at least a visual interesting Mass Effect movie. May have issue but man will it look and feel good. No issue my guy. I have alway seen you videos as good but they do get better and better from what I have seen. As you just do more videos you will get better. And it is just great seeing the results of your work.

    @@Knight1029 Yeah see, the prospect of a Villeneuvian Mass Effect movie both excites and concerns me, cause it's the same issue I have with Dune, but magnified. The heart of Mass Effect is its characters, so stuff like character interactions, the script, wit, emotion, simple conversations, all of those become crucial. Whereas Villeneuve is better and more interested in visuals and making it cinematic, which is nice, but it's not an either or. Mass Effect, more-so than other IPs, requires both.

    @@CynicalWarlock I have no doubt in my mind that he will make a mess of a core aspect of Mass Effect. As you said Mass Effect thrives on its characters. Remove the characters and you are left with something weaker. Not bad, but it is missing a vital component. Villeneuve would definitely exell in the cinematic aspect of Mass Effect but will falter in the rest.

  • @CynicalWarlock

    @CynicalWarlock

    4 ай бұрын

    It does; every little bit helps, so appreciate it. The algorithm compares your video to the past few, and if most of your subs don't watch it, it gets less views than those previous videos, and KZread stops pushing it. Most of my current subs are here for MK content, not Dune or film stuff, hence this situation. I'll still post both types of content; you never know what'll take off.

    Great analysis Cynical. I'm looking forward to watching it, even if it's disappointing. At least it'll be tonally consistent with part one, but it just seems a pity that all that budget goes into something that is not excellent and inspiring especially for someone who doesn't really know the I.P.. Interesting that it neither shows nor tells - Spartan dialogue combined with Finish emotions. I have seen Timothy Shamamamalla in other things since the first part and I do like him as an actor. I'll get back once I've watched it but might have to rewatch the first (or check out a plot summary) because I can't remember that much.

    Finally saw it in IMAX with some friends last week. Stunning, more impressive than the last one in that respect but that could be TV vs Imax effect. One thing I felt it needed was a star wars style crawl at the beginning to get simpleton sieve-brains like me back up to speed because although you yourself know the books and overall story, I'd completely forgotten the houses, planets, characters and what spice even is. You don't see it in this movie and that's the driver of the war, no? Overall, we all left the cinema pretty happy.

    I totally agree with your review. Not enough character dialog. And the intense promise that Paul will love Chani til his last breath wasn't even backed up by a convincing kiss. I instantly felt like Spiderman was just out of frame & daring Timothy to touch his girlfriend. Zendaya was fine in Dune but left me cold in Dune ll. All the great action but almost no soft emotional content to rest & take a breath.

  • @CynicalWarlock

    I mean, even Paul's prescience cannot withstand the power of Spider-Man's dad jokes, so understandable. I will say, it certainly helps seeing the 2 parts back to back; otherwise, like you mentioned, one is all setup no payoff, the other is all action, no feels. And, in the movie's defense, this is a structural problem inherent to the book. Not in the movie's defense, it should've looked for ways to solve the problem - that's why it's called an 'adaptation'.

    Hey CW, my KZread was unceremoniously killed, and denied appeal for "violation of sexusl conduct", I believe was the phrase. I uia thumbnail that had a DRAWING of a woman's torso INCLUDING the dreaded, unholy nipples! Brazenly UNOBTUSE nipples out there corrupting the children! So anyway, this is me now, my middle initial had to join the fun, fuck me running. Took almost 2 years for my 80 subs... c'est la vie Great analysis, your skills as a critic are reaching the peak, there's never any confusion on what your conveying. Your middle initial is a welcome addition. It marvels me that there are now shorts with women exposing their crotches and sitting on cameras, yet those somehow don't get banned. This is what happens when you delegate this responsibility to idiot algorithms. I'm truly sorry for the gut punch #YouToo-be served you. If I were you, I'd post all the songs and content on this new channel, double-down on shorts and see where that leaves you, after a month. Fun fact: the same thing actually happened to Cynical Warlock. Still not 100% clear on how, but someone reported a video of mine, I think, and KZread hit me with the same unappealable termination notice. This was back when I had like 12 videos, and it was my first attempt at a channel. This is actually the second iteration of CW. KZread is like playing fuckin Dark Souls, I swear. P.S. "No jokes, was hoping for jokes" - I'm gonna pretend you didn't write that.
