Immediately failed to mention that inthe book Paul was reverred and respected for killing the great warrior Jamis, and then adopted his children. Instead, Paul 's subjected to a BLM or suburban Parisian ghetto rioting mob barking like dirty dogs. And Chani's character has been completely vandalized. And her riding off into the sunset on a worm as the last scene is a warning that it will be "boss girl" switch in part 3. It's The Force Awakens all over.

It's because he knows he has to pursue his political ambitions in order for his and his family and friends survival. It was a hard choice for him to make which Villinueve perfectly captured before Paul traveled south on Arrakis. It's also why we see Paul shed a tear when confronted by Chani when he agrees to ride south because he knows he will have to make that difficult decision to not only keep his family name and bloodline moving forward but to also inevitably keep Changing alive. Denis Villinueve did an incredible job telling this story and I CANT wait for Dune Messiah. This movie was so immersive and I can't get it out of my head. I've seen it 3 times already and will gladly see it many many more times. Amazing masterpiece for anyone reading this and hasn't seen the movie

I thought the same thing. He really shows his acting ability which shows lots of time it's the role that defines the performance. I thought all the acting was great. You could see Paul taking in the responsibility of what he needs to do and even his walk becomes more confident and mature. Awesome movie!

Just saw the movie today and I have not felt this way ever since watching _The Two Towers_ in cinema 2 decades ago. This movie is, without a doubt, the "Lord of the Rings" of science fiction. 12 out of 10!!! Planning to go watch it again! ☺

I watched this movie last night and I need another 3hrs to watch it again. Epic movie!

The book outlines that Paul had access to his paternal ancestral memories as well as his maternal, that's where he could go where the BG could not.

I'm disappointed that Denis didn't even portray the mysterious & secretive Spacing Guild. Still, all in all this is a great film.

I accept Villeneuve’s choice given the necessities of successfully adapting the tapestry if a novel into the simpler weave of a film.

This video was the cleanest most well thought and organized summary on KZread, even more than channels with millions of subscribers. Well done!

Great breakdown! I thought the spice harvester attack was one of the best action scenes I have seen in years! Nothing really to explain from it but I thought was awesome.

The harvester attack bothered me by how unnecessary it was. Why hide in the sand, risk your lives when you then laser harvesters from afar or destroy them with homing mines. It was intense and incredibly shot but felt so unnecessary at the same time.

just came home from watching dune part 1 and 2 in one go at the cinema and I'm fuckin speechless, I read the book after I watched part 1 in 2021 and there were obvious changes but I think this was the best way to adapt the book and paving the way for messiah

It's been a long time since I felt the vibes of a film like THE LORD OF THE RINGS, after 21 years finally ,,DUNE II is a cinematic masterpiece packaged in a very epic and emotional way... Zimmer really plays an important role in part 2... the scoring is what makes the difference... ONE AND ONLY !!! overall this is masterpiece scifi in modern CINEMA by FAR !!

Just went to the movies last night. It was amazing and I pray that they make Dune Messiah. We really need the trilogy.

Hardly reckless abandon... Paul understands that he needs to prove that he is the chosen one by defeating his opponent in a knife duel.

And he needs to destroy the Bene Gesserit's only other current candidate for their Choaen One scheme. He clearly doesn't trust their sisterhood and their motives, so he is taking their goal from them.

It was heartbreaking that Paul didn’t even give Chani a head’s up about his decision to marry Irulan. At least in the Lynch movie, he ensures her it’s only a political move, and Jessica comforts her (same in the book). In Dune Part II, she doesn’t get any of that. He springs it on her before taking her people into space. So he breaks her heart and takes her family with him. It’s all kinds of BS.

That's one reason I prefer the novel. People who haven't read the novel don't realize how much poetic license Villeneuve took with Frank Herbert's material. I still think it was a good interpretation of the novel.

In the novel "Dune," Chani becomes more of a background character towards the end. She's depicted as someone who fully grasps the complex political schemes unfolding around her and believes that Paul is their messiah. Conversely, in the film adaptation, Chani is given a more prominent and independent role. She is skeptical of Paul, differing from her portrayal in the book. This change in character perspective makes sense considering her enhanced role in the movie. From her viewpoint, Paul appears to be just another oppressor waiting to take control over the Fremen, succeeding the Harkonnens-and her assessment isn't without merit.

I want to see Messiah incorporate Children of Dune as well. Messiah completes the first book's intent, but Children of Dune completes the entore arc. The idea of Leto taking the path that Paul could not is always intriguing. ...but we can end it before he becomes a half worm god that rules as a tyrant for 3000 years, please.

I loved the use of filming in infrared on the Harkkonen home world

I just watch the movie this afternoon (28 February). I love what how Villeneuve done with the cinematography of this movie. I really love it, the scaling that show how big the Spice Harvester is, how big the imperium spaceship is, the scaling is perfect. The color grading, the moon, the eclipse, the sunset of Aarakis is so beautiful and it felt so real. How a dessert can be that beuatiful? For Alia, I'm not that disappointed to face a fact that she's still in Jessica's womb. I just kinda disappointed that we don't get enough of her? And i just expect to see more Anya Taylor Johnson Alia not just by one scene, but maybe perhaps like the various of Paul possible future version when she kill Baron Vladimir Harkonenn? Or maybe a future when she sit with Irulan, Jessica and Paul as the emperor in one room? Things like this is i wanted to see from Paul's Vision and Alia. Things that can help us fantasies further for the future film My most disappointment is that we stull haven't had the guild navigator. I don't care if we only get one scene of it, i think it can help the general audience (those who didn't read the book or aware to Dune lore) to understand more the use of spice. I mean Dune is all about spice, but i just don't see how Spice is really use in this movie besidr it got harvested and use in a meal for the fremen. Some things that i really like is that this movie show what Benne Gesserit has done through the generation. Lea Seydoux play a really charming and seducing Lady Margot Fenring. I'm not that expert in Dune Lore, but if I'm not, Atreides culture is to hang the head of living being/things and killed their leader, so i was expected that the head of Vladimir get hang in Paul emperor's room. For the future, i was hope that we can see Irulan get more appreciation from Paul since i love how Florence Pugh play her and it's a kinda waste to not explore her character. I'm sure there's also a big reason that why Villeneuve didn't wanted to show the "History will know us as wives" is so it can build up a romantic tension between Paul, Irulan and Chani. The fact that this movie is close with Chani's face who's rage and confuse is really made the general audience and the book reader to play with their fantasy a bit. Perhaps Paul will have a moral dillema when He realize Chani is pregnant, or Maybe Irulan will pregnant from Paul? I can see there's a chance for it.

@25:00 I'm pretty sure that Paul's vision is of Chani watching the spice fields be destroyed by the atomics, then burned by the radiation, as they just mentioned in the previous scene with Gurney Halleck. Then when he awakes the scene is very similar but it's of stitch Tabr being destroyed by artillery, and Chani isn't burned like in the vision.

I read elsewhere a comment of paul choosing a different timeline. As he has seen what happens in the books and has decided against it. Giving it a good way to show off how different this interpretation of the books to movies. Making it more Denis version of the same story

It does sound a lot closer to the book than the David Lynch version. One logical / rhetorical point I'd like to make ~ after taking The Water of Life, Paul has access to the visions, indeed, they come to him as waking dreams, as well as while he sleeps, aka hallucinations. What he doesn't have, is the intelligence and consciousness of a God. He is after all, 16 or 17 years old or something. He has access to the memories of many, and those personalities help, but the whole picture and the interpretation and the comprehension of it, those things take time. Right from the start, he's getting visions of The Golden Path, but it takes quite a while and the watching of many visions for him to understand what he is being shown. What he slowly realises, is that from the millions and billions of possible futures, there's only one way forward where humanity doesn't end. That's the Golden Path. But the path into and through that, involves the death of billions of people, through a holy war that he is to start, and it involves wearing the skin of the worm, leading to a life 3,ooo years long, in which he is to become the most hated and reviled tyrant in human history. The reason he puts it off and stalls, is there are simply so many possibilities, so many way this can change, unless you have taken the time to explore a lot of them, how can you say the Golden Path is the only choice? So Paul triggers the Holy War, and stalls on the Skin of the Worm, exploring other possibilities. TLDR ~ there aren't any. Then he gets hit by a stone burner and becomes a 'blind' hermit / Holy Man, and it falls to his son Leto 2 to take up the Path and wear the skin of the worm. The thing is ~ there are no other choices. The Golden Path is horrifying, but every other choice is worse, and they all lead to the destruction of humanity. There is only one way that 'we' will survive. That's not talking about Paul and Chani ~ that's not talking about the Freemen or the Great Houses or the Empire, that's the whole of Humanity. Extinction may arrive swiftly, it may take time, most involve extreme suffering, but all of them result in the end of mankind. Except the Golden Path. Facets and parts of that are horrifying, such as the journey the God-Emperor must take, but the end result is humans surviving and populating a whole new universe, as well as keeping this one, with a sand-worm and a No-ship and reverent Mother... (Yeah, I'm going all the way to Chapter House here, but they are all part of the one story.) Paul could see that, all of it, from the day he took the Water of Life.... Part of the delay could be called youthful cowardice and a desire to not become the God Emperor, but partly it's a very sensible decision to make damn-sure you understand the decision you're being faced with, because the life or death of Humanity balances on getting this right. You don't want to make the wrong decision here.... That's an awful lot of pressure & responsibility on the shoulders of a man who is not yet 20 years old ~

@@prome666~ No. I don't think so. The Missionara Protecta had planted a lot of legends and a lot of potential Messiah myths on many worlds. There wasn't a single plan for a single person ~ there was a general life-boat strategy that one day, someone's going to need help. They're going to need to take command of the unwashed and get them marching up the hill toward castle Frankenstein with pitchforks and torches, and the set about planting the seeds of that as far and as wide as they could. See, this is what the BG do. They stick their fingers in other people's groups and governments and aristocracy, religion, and they meddle and manipulate and pull the strings. That's what they exist to do. The general objective, is to get mankind to grow up and stop being a mental adolescent. The BG have access to the lives and memories and personalities of their female ancestors. And some kick-arse kung-fu. They are not (generally) prescient. Their plan to make a Kwizatz Hadderack, was to make a male BG Reverend Mother, somebody who could do the ancestral Memory thing, but with the Male Memories, which they couldn't do. But they intended to have this person completely under their close control, not wandering around some place like the backwoods of Iraq with a few million ISIS fighters. The idea that same person would have prescience, be able to see the future(s) ~ in the way a Guild Navigator can ~ that was a complete shock. The idea that same person would be a borderline / potential Mentat (It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.) was a complete shock. The idea this person would be a central and critical figure in the bloodline of a leading family ~ the future Duke of the Atreides, that was known, that was a completely necessary and unavoidable side effect of their game, but they didn't fully appreciate what that could mean. You don't spend 600 ~ 800 ~ thousand years building Kermit the puppet and then expect your puppet to get elected to the oval office, or at least, if you do, you expect to be the one with their hand up it making its' mouth work. You don't expect Kermit to be smarter than you are and set to subvert your plan, not you subverting his. The BG had a long and complex breeding plan in place to make the Kwizatz Hadderack. That was due to reach fruition in one more generation. The plan was that Jessica was ordered to produce Leto Atreides a daughter, and some other BG hack was to produce Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen a son, and that those two should produce a son who was going to be the Kwizatz Haderack. Paul was meant to be a daughter, and his son was meant to be the Man who could be many ~ under their control. That would give them access to the memories and personalities of their male forebears, which normally they don't have. All the other stuff ~ the prescience, that was completely unexpected. They were meddling with the destiny of humankind, but they got something that was both a bit more than they expected and a bit less, and completely outside their control. Were the BG even aware of the Golden Path? I don't think so. They are not prescient.

The first movie (from the 1980s; the David Lynch version) is a much more literal interpretation of the novel, but only if you go on KZread and watch the Extended Version by The Spice Diver. I have a copy of that. The version that was released into theaters was too edited to make much sense, because Dino De Laurentis kept insisting that David Lynch cut out scenes to force it into a two-hour time frame.

Great Breakdown just a couple of things at 34:06 Paul tells Chani he will always love her not that he'd never leave her side as his strategic move to ask for the Emporer's daughter hand was already forseen by him. The way he looks at Chani he knew he broke her heart and also his knife fight with Feyd may seem reckless but with his foresight he already knew the outcome.

Thanks,this really helps I haven't read the books, though I saw the original Dune film years ago and I saw Dune Chapter 2 this week after watching the first film a couple of weeks ago I was struggling to feel the logic behind some of the events in the 2nd film , the behaviour of certain characters or certain events seemed too contrived and one dimensional as though they just behaved the way they did or things suddenly happneed the way they did because they "just did" because thats what the plot needed to happen right then with no back story or character devlopment to explain it Hearing the way events and relationships have been condensed into a few months instead of years with large lengths of time just discarded help me to understand better why these things happened or ceratain caharacters behaved In ways that suddenly didn't seem to fit their previous profile or beliefs And to know that the film had even changed certain scenarios It really bugged me how Chani , in the space of what seemed a few days went from being totally seduced by Paul and his character , and totally trusting him to the complete opposite ! One moment she Is fully invested In his own sworn goal for revenge and the destruction of their enemies and his leadership and ready to be by his side forever and with her lifes dream and mission being totally aligned with his to free the Freman and destroy their mutual enemies to SUDDENLY turning against him emotionally in what seemed like overnight when he FINALLY after much anguish SHE WAS FULLY AWARE OF decides to go to the South to unite the Freman to be able to do JUST THIS and drinks the blue water ? I mean SHE wanted him to go South with all that entailed despite PAUL desperately trying to avoid It !! And then suddenly and totaly confusingly she changes i overnight and is the ONLY freman in the WHOLE war council when he addresses them and wins them over after this who now DOESN'T SUPPORT him and suddenly storms out and doesn't want anything tO do now with him taking on this role just as he's becoming the very person she previously encouraged him to go South to become aNd knew he had to??? Duh, wajht am I missing here?? This sudden emotional U turn and distancing from him after this and loss of trust in HIM just seemed to happen far far too quickly and be totally contrived and lacking any emotional depth or development for their relationship and for someone who was supposed to be intimately involved with him ome moment and already was aware of his own struggles with actually NOT wanting to become this person he had to to lead them and her to this ultimate goal Knowing that firstly in the books this is actually NOT what happens with Chani at all at this point makes total sense and confirms the clear feeling that this story line was rushed through and her reactions contrived by the writers But even In the altered universe of the film knwoing the narrative of Pauls journey to this point and thus also their relationship, was basically butchered and HUGELY condensed wth events that took years seeming to happen in weeks Including the birth of a child helps me to understand why it seems this way in the film and that their could well have been a deterioration of trust and doubt and confict between them going on for a long time before that would better exolain some of what seemed her ludicrously sudden extreme reaction and opposition to him

@crispycat4852: Duh, wajht am I missing here?? It's about belief in prophecy. Among the Fremen, there's a division, roughly, between the elders who believe in prophecy and the youth who don't. It pains her that the prophecy is true, and the proof is that she's a part of it. It's too much for her, a young, strong, capable woman, to not have full control over her own life. I just watched it and haven’t read the books, but are they still together or will we not even see her in the next movie. Can someone explain the status of Paul and his new wife and chani? I’m am really confused by that whole thing

​@@Bonquiqui431Irulan will fall in love with Paul but her love is unrequited. Paul will always only love Chani. He lives with Chani and Irulan remains just a token wife, a political alliance. Later in the books Irulan will be looking after and protecting Paul and Chani's children.

My only issue with the movie was that Thufir Hawat was cut. His storyline in the second half of the book was one the best things about the book. All they had to do was add on another 10-15 mins to the movie for Thufir.

As much as I adore Thufir as a character, am inclined to favour the director editing out these scenes. They would have to show some body horror torture as well as his subtle sabotage efforts vs the harkonens if it's book accurate. It would have become a bathroom break scene in an otherwise tightly edited show.

@@mrbluebell2735otherwise, I think that the events in between Part 1 and Part 2 should be in a limited episodic summary of everything that Villanueve was not able to get into the theatrical cut. From more indepth about Irulan's character, Thufir's sabotage and death, spacing guild, and the like.

It showcased the Bene Gesserit breeding program; put a stamp on it if you will. I wish they had shown more of the Fenrings; I thought they were a very interesting couple. But just like LOTR they can't include everything or each movie would have been 5 hrs long (fine by me lol).

I particularly enjoyed the twist of the knife where Lady Fenrig is quite possibly already carrying the child of Feyed Rautha even as she is about to marry Paul.

Maybe its worth mentioning that because of shorter time-skip in the movie the battle for Arakeen is diffrent than in the book. My main point is the absence of Alia who was the one who killed Baron Vladimir and the said "abomination" as Mother Mohaim called her. Anyway, I really enjoyed the movie and do hope Dune Messiah will be made.

Wow, great work, thanks for taking the time to make this video! I watched the movie last night, and although I eagerly anticipated it and thoroughly enjoyed it (and planning to watch again!), I was a bit baffled about the way things turned. I haven't read the books, but according to my understanding of the movie's storytelling, I tend to disagree with the "reckless" characterization of Paul's actions. To me, it seems that for better of for worse, from the moment he drank the water of life and saw whatever it is that he saw in those future timelines and the slim chances of them winning, he was pretty determined and strategic about pursuing that elusive victory. Let's not forget that according to the films version, this victory means freedom for the Fremen as well as taking their planet back; but essentially, it means justice for the rest of the Houses and the people under them as well, since the murderous plotting against the Atreides' House has shown that the Empire is corrupted. I don't know, am I getting something wrong / missing something here?

Always love your commentary. Just a quick note. Lasgun is pronounced "Laze-gun" not "Lazz-gun." Literally a contraction of laser gun. And, of course, we know what happens when a lasgun intersects a shield. Nuclear fission. Ouch.

Having read the books numerous times after watchung the first two films i can only hope for an extended cut.

Honestly, the biggest question that I possessed was when Paul and Chani's baby Leto II would have been born; so finding out that Leto II, was removed answers one question. I'm actually grateful for the explanation of the conflict between Paul and Chani. Seeing Chani abandon Paul as he starts the spread of the Jihad; felt literally like a kick to the stomach. Personally, I was hoping that Paul and Chani would become co-rulers of Arrakis, and that Princess Irulan would be just a figure head. Honestly, I'm hopeful that Dune Messiah can reintroduce the story more in line with the source material. Again, it's this source material which has made Dune a film too complex to adapt to a movie screen format. I enjoyed Dune Part 2, but I'm wanting more of the actual source material to be used correctly. The one thing that I really enjoyed was seeing how the Fremen people were portrayed; many of them were merely wanting the oppression by the Harkonnen to end and a more mailable leader to lead them into transforming Arrakis into a paradise. But, I agree with the statement that religious indoctrination is the real curse of Dune, if the Fremen could've overthrown the Harkonnen and freed the Fremen people to live in peace, that would've had a better ending. I think it would've been a more powerful statement if Paul had warned the other Great Houses that Shaddam IV, had been the reason behind the murder of Duke Leto Atreides? Forestalling the Jihad, but in Denis' Timeline that no longer possible!

@34:35 I disagree that he impulsively agrees to fight Feyd. He knew through his prescience he'd have to fight Feyd that's why he said it was his burden. And impulsive agreement wouldn't be someone's burden. We've been shown up to this point, that Paul b4 the water of life was impulsive sometimes and made a few mistakes. But Paul after the water of life is no longer impulsive and sees the plans with in plans. He crafts his own plan and we are along for the ride.

I was actually really suprised how modest the emperor appeared even though he was supposedly the most powerfull man in the universe. while the Harkonen had a literal city planet of black/white doom, the emperor felt really ... underwhelming for me. I kinda wished they had made him a little more pompous and bombastic. Same goes for the Fremen Sieges. They kinda lacked in size fpr my taste. it was all sand and ruin walls. I expected them to have a little more technology and hive cities ...

Never heard of dune finally watched part 1 and went to go see part 2 yesterday. This can be a nee favorite saga for me hopefully we get a 3rd movie.

I am very grateful for this video before I see the movie because I am quite confused by the names which are hard to track with my American upbringing and limits around name exposures (despite my own highly rare name). Without captioning and with my hearing impairment, I spend too much time trying to figure out the names of characters and it is hard for me to do that if I can’t mentally spell it out. While wanting to watch this, I want to watch this at home with closed captioning and rewind to ensure I actually catch everything and not miss stuff while replaying a confusing bit in my head.

How soon will there be DVD production or copy of part one?

Having read all of the books about Dune by Frank Herbert and most of the books written by his son and Kevin Anderson starting when I was in 5th grade(Im 61), I have gotten a little nit picky about the deviations. However, with as cerebral as the books are and quite a bit of it being internal dialog, I can see the necessity for the changes made in order to convey the themes. Such as Chani not believing. If they showed her as a follower on screen, it would take away from how strong of a woman Chani actually was. This pair of films was a thousand times better than the one previous where Patrick Stewart played Gurney. If it comes out on disk, I will buy it. Your breakdown is fair. It could have been a bit better but Making a video of this nature, you would lose audience due to the length it would have to be. So I say, Bravo and well done.

@@grayfae3 including the fact it was transmutation in the movie. The poison was transmuted in that it was rendered non-lethal by her body's ability to change it. It wasn't transported out of her. So, no. Both are not correct.

25:29 imho, it's more that they realize that this fight is an existential threat for the fremen in the north. It makes the choice to go all-out, more existential than a 'petty' revenge ("they killed my son, so I will declare holy war and kill billions throughout the galaxy" vs. "if we dont go down this path, we will disappear")

I believe Paul had already seen himself plunge the dagger into Rautha and thus probably agrees to fight him. Cause in the first half of the movie there is a clip shown regarding the dagger when Paul has visions of the aftermath if he travels to the South.

This is the best movie I’ve ever seen, an absolute masterclass in cinema.

I'm a fan of the Villeneuve Dune world and the David Lynch Dune. I loved sharing it with my GF. This is a film that will be watchable many times to get the whole experience. I believe Dune is a metaphor or say a revelation of Kardiff type 3-to 4 Galactic civilization and I realized this is what it would look like, I imagined myself popped into Iracus and this is the feeling I would get....the feeling that this is not Kansas Toto. That was my biggest takeaway from this film, left me with a bigger impact then Villeneuve 1st Dune. Though this movie did not go into why everybody was fighting over control of Icarcus and Spice. The Lynch version explained that Spice could "Fold space" make galactic travel instantaneous.

Will the next instalment be done in two parts or completed simultaneously and released as one very long film, or back-to-back? It would be great if the studio took this route but kept its hands out of the work itself and allowed the story to play out accordingly. Plans within Plans!

I watched the movies and I still feel that there is so much more to understand so I think if I should read the books but don’t know where to start.

One thing I still try to understand is, why Paul changed so radically after drinking the water of life. Before he seemed like an idealist fighting FOR the Fremen. Afterwards he seemed to seek for power, why did he suddenly want to become the Emperor? Did he see this as the only path for the Fremen to become free and he acted out of good intentions?

Paul is no longer just Paul after he drinks the Water of Life. He suddenly has ALL the personalities and memories of ALL the Reverend Mothers and ALL his male ancestors inside of him, talking to him, and he & they make that decision together. Jessica mentions this but the movie doesn't really explain how profound it is. Paul's father was also the biggest contender to become the next Emporer; he was the most popular Duke in the Landsraad; that's why he kept himself unmarried, and that's why the Emporer had him killed. So Paul is also just fulfilling the Atreides destiny; the Atreides plan. They are distantly related to the Corrinos (the Emporer's family), you know; just as they are related to the Harkonnens. Just like ruling families of old, way way back on a long-forgotten planet Earth. Fun fact: Herbert said that the humans scattered among the galaxies didn't even remember the word "Earth" anymore. Yet they still carried on it's ancient traditions. I love that. ❤😊

This was the best experience in theatre in my entire life ngl.

I kind of feel that those who haven't read the book are getting the impression from the ending that the next movie is going to be all about the battles of the crusade and not afterwards when Paul is victorious on the throne. I wonder what Denis will do. If he shows it, it wouldn't be like the battle at the end of part two where we are rooting for and following individual fighters.

@34:41 What Paul chose to do wasn't reckless, but rather a well-considered decision. After consuming the water of life, Paul's visions became more distinct. He confided in his mother that he could only envision one future where they achieved victory. Interestingly, during his explanation, he even foresaw himself being stabbed with a blade. He cleverly deceived Feyd into believing that he had the advantage.

I've always wondered, how do they get off of the worm? Does the worm have brakes? Do they just jump off?

they get tired they say and they jump or dismount off then and the hooks pulls up the skin of the worm so the worms stay above sand to avoid sand on their open flesh.

Watched it twice today, absolutely blown away by it. Wasnt sure about the deviation from the book but D.V. did it so well that now I camt wait for Messiah.Ive never ever given a 10/10 for a film but this is defo 8/10.

OK just seen Dune Part 2 (bootleg), and as expected totally bland Villeneuve style. NOTHING SPECIAL, NOTHING Memorable !! Feels a bit truncated, BUT clearly glorifying war, which is a bit anti-Herbert! Forgettable soundtrack! No "Father, the Sleeper has Awakened" !!! Ouch!

Dune 2 is a love story and I found that the ending was so powerful because the music is a variable of the Paul-Chani love theme. I think they slightly over-played Chani's opposition to the prophecy, she was upset because she was losing her boyfriend, who then marries the princess and takes Chani's people on a galactic jihad. The while thing is heart breaking, not the least of which is Paul sadly giving the order to Lead them to Paradise.
