Tbh I liked the 2018 draft script better. It felt as though there was more of story in it, as well as more character appearances. It was then edited, which became the final 2020 draft - which even then, stuff was cut. And they refused to show those cut scenes 🥲

To this day, one of the craziest moment in my life was wearing Zendaya's stillsuit for costume fitting. She was not in the country, in Hungary at the time of creating her suit so they needed a bodydouble. I happened to be the same size. Wonderful costume & wonderful wonderful designers! It was thrilling to see them working in real time, brainstorming about the beads and all that! ✨ Stumbled upon this video a year later but anyhow, felt like sharing this precious memory. This movie is close to my heart.

The last time I saw a film of this scale and emotion was Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy. Those still are my favorite movies today, even as a young kid... Those films are just to perfection. And now after waiting many years for another epic, Denis Villeneuve has finally made an adaptation that's done justice... At least for me. Watching this piece of art especially in IMAX gave me callbacks to the LOTR trilogy (in a fantastic way of course). I wish Frank Herbert was alive to see this masterpiece come to life. He would've been proud. I also wish that Stanley Kubrick was alive to do a "director on director" with Denis Villeneuve like Christopher Nolan, Sam Mendes and James Cameron did. That would be epic.

You can tell just from these short snippets how passionate they are, and how sophisticated the inspiration for all the outfits is. They did an incredible job. I loved seeing all the costumes throughout the film, yet they didn't stick out as weird or trying too hard. They blended seamlessly with the rest of the world building, while simultaneously being a highlight of the film. Great job, everyone involved!

One thing I always find challenging is getting the "lived in" feel. These are great costumes but there is a slight separation between the characters and their costumes. Feels like dolls getting dressed for play time. Its missing the lived in patina. It's very difficult to do. Just being nitpicky. They put a lot of great work into it. After thought: maybe its the uniformity for everything. People that live in the clothing would probably clean the garments differently. Thus have slight changes in the color fade? Maybe the asethetic of the uniformity makes it feel more like theatrics rather than a documentation.

As beautiful as the costumes are, and as cool as some of the explanations are, one issue I had was that many of the costumes seemed similar despite varied influences. Everyone was wearing relatively dark colors with some combination of austere clothing/uniform, armor, or flowy pieces despite varied cultural influences/backgrounds. I remember with the lord of the rings films how I could tell exactly what culture/side someone was on from their costume, and I found I couldn't do that here with the clothing or armor.

Lady Jessica and the rest of the royalty looked too basic. Dune 1984 did the royalty so much better.

Costumes and designs in this movie are utter garbage, dull and unintersting. How could they go for such cheap things?! This isnt 1100 century😮
