Very interesting Jansen! A small nitpick though: the Dune film takes place 20,000+ yrs after us, and 10,000+ yrs after the ButlerianRevolution against human thinking machines...

Thank you for this commentary-I love Dune and its costume designs-esp small details. I liked some of the david Lynchs designs also.

Yeah I like his designs too! They are very campy for sure. Wish Lynch would have had the freedom to really make his vision come to life though

Do you really think Dune 1 influenced mainstream fashion? I never thought it had that big of a cultural impact. However, maybe I underplayed it.

Hey yeah I definitely think it influenced high fashion/niche fashion much more than mainstream fashion. Definitely aren’t gonna go into an HM and get a dune-inspired outfit lol. But as someone who lives and works in a fashion capital, I definitely see the influence in high fashion in both couture/runway and more “core” aesthetics. In many different ways though like architectural, industrial silhouettes, super functionality, modern medieval in couture, etc. I think so anyway😉

Um, a movie influencing haute couture and fashion designers doesn't necessarily translate down to prêt-à-porter

I do love lynch but I wish his vision was able to be fully realized. I think Villeneuve’s / West’s costumes are more believable and have a greater impact on the story than Lynch’s though
