note how Paul's "the voice" is entirely masculine at that point while the earlier ones you can hear that his voice is overlaid with an older female voice to tie it to the bene gesserit. His voice being entirely masculine tells me he's completely the Kwisatz Haderach, not just female ancestral memory like the bene gesserit but male ancestral too.

There are a few missed. The one is when Jessica orders one Fedain to find others who came from the north shortly after Paul drunk the Water of Life. Another is earlier when she orders the worm keeper to give water of life to Paul. Yet another - which I am not sure - is when Reverand Mother orders spider-human creature to go away.

I really like the first use of it by Paul. At first it seems like the pause is for dramatic effect, but he's focusing and studying every aspect of his mother's tone and emotional state to tune his voice to command her. Also brilliant to show the attributes around the room belonging to Paul's grandfather since much of their characters and stories result from his actions, showing how using the Voice involves knowing yourself and the one you're using it on

Now that I think about it. When they use the voice, it always sounds distorted and with another voice behind it. Like when Paul uses the voice on his mom it sounds like the Reverend Mother. I havent read the books and I dont know if it is this way, but does the voice makes it so the person being influenced hears a person they concider an autorithy speak to them? If so its interesting that at the end, when Paul uses the voice on her by silencing her, we only hear his voice and no other behind it.

  • @Spiritvoid

In the book the Voice is different non only by different users, but also when it's used on different people by the same user. By the way it is described the "sound" of the voice depends by the users, by the target, by the situation, the place even the feelings of both. As it's described one of the first time in the book by Jessika before using it she has to "decode" her target for it to work, then (in the occasion I'm talking about) the tone of Jessica's order is described as a "Lament" or a "Wail" (sorry I don't know which is the exact word in English since I read the books in Italian so I translated by the meaning). Anyway every time the voice is used it is stated either by the narrator by a character (usually Lady Jessika or a Reverend mother) or by the different Font used in text. So one can say that it's not a real "power" per se, but more a a very deep knowledge of everything is happening in that exact situation, the grant the users the possibility to give an order with the Voice. And the target executes the order even before realizing that he was given one. All in all I think it was a good choice to make it sound like that in the movies so it's easier to understand to the audience that did not read the books. On a side note also Paul's speech to Fremen in the book is given using the Voice (and only Paul as far as I remember is capable of using the Voice on more than one person at a time), that's why at least to me Timothee's voice sound so distorted or raspy when he gives his last speech to firemen before the final attack.

The film has it include 'the voices of their ancestors'. As a male Paul's is the only voice that appears to have male voices in the mix (the reason why the Kwisatz Haderach needs to be male, because the women only have access to their female ancestors).

  • @leini7461

Did anyone else notice that at first, when Paul uses the voice, the background voice sounds like the Reverend Mother? But when he uses his voice in the last clip, when he blows her back with how powerful his voice is, the background voice is Paul's voice, as if he's overpowering her. I think that's pretty cool. I didn't notice that until now.

You’re missing Margot Fenring’s use of Voice. (I think it’s the best use in either movie, too :) ) It’s subtle and very different from the more aggressive versions used elsewhere. But when she speaks to Feyd-not everything she says, just some things-it carries the reverb and over/undertones that the movies very clearly use to signify the Voice.
