Dumpster Diving Scrap Metal Recycling 32 - This Filled Up Quick!
Some actual dumpster diving at last! After seeing this dumpster from afar I decided we had to have a peek, and I'm so glad we did! Filled the truck, emptied the truck, then went out and filled it again! What a day to be recycling scrap metal.
Wire stripper I use: amzn.to/3jrO2iS
The motorized stripper: amzn.to/3y0JMuQ
The wire cutters I like: amzn.to/2T6j3OW
This is the cheaper version: amzn.to/2SwrYsB
And here are those grips I recommend: amzn.to/2QCJmYl

Loved your dumpster karaoke. It's too bad that "Heavy As Balls" never even charted here in the States. 😀
Thanks Thub I laughed all the way through. The truck was full.
You really do not need to justify yourself or your actions. I have watched pretty much all your vids and have found you to be respectful of others and their property, and always 'leaving it better than you found it' and ultimately the people wanted rid of the item(s) - ideally to a new home yes, but mainly to be rid of them. You come across well in your videos (even in the face of provocation from other members of the public) so seriously, do not worry over much about it :)

I face discrimination on a daily basis. Mostly just dirty looks but I have experienced worse. Sad thing is that metal recycling is not only essential but absolutely vital to the economy.

I enjoy breaking stuff down myself, strangely enough, I’d enjoy watching others do it too haha. I just came back inside from tearing apart and old service disconnect. Got some pretty nice pieces of copper buss bars out of it
greetings from Ireland. your vids really helped me get more cash when scrapping! and have found that if you keep all the hard plastic ex tvs etc they pay £100 per ton here, thats 175 canadian. keep doing the thing...

Happy to help, friend! My scrapyard won’t take complete tvs, but are you saying you’re getting paid for the plastic shells? That sounds like a nice bonus for sure!

great video, for a beginner it's good to see you in action, i literally left a gas grill in a driveway thinking it had no value, but i'm beginning to see the light... and you're so right about the worth of sentimental value. i used to work for a paper shredder and many times we would pick up documents of someone who passed, things they saved over the years, etc. and it's quite eye opening to watch what family members do to your passion or life's interests after you're gone, and how quickly they get tossed with the garbage.
@thubprint
2 жыл бұрын
That’s such a sad reality, our passions and interests kinda do die with us don’t they? I mean it’s fine of course, I wouldn’t expect anyone to come in and pick up where I left off. I suppose it’s just something we’d best make peace with, and try to… leave it better than we found it? 😆
@tomitstube

@@thubprint definitely, leave it better than we found it, i was just dropping off plastic at a recycling dumpster, it's only a few blocks from me so it's convenient, talked to another fellow there, we both agreed to "do our part", i said, "if everyone did, we'd be okay." here's one for ya, i was scheduled to pick up shredding at a lawyers office, they were handling the estate of a man who died fairly young, 35 or 40 i believe. so i'm getting the various things they wanted destroyed, including a couple hard drives. the lawyer is like, "you make sure these hard drives are destroyed right?" i'm like "oh yeah, we put a big drill bit right thru the memory." i don't know why he told me this but he says the family was going thru the deceased's stuff and found some videos on his computer, they decided to watch hoping to find fond memories... what they discovered was he was doing gay porn, and saving the videos. the conservative family had no idea. reminds me of another guy i worked with, a salesman, and an alcoholic, one worker came in to work and found him passed out in his office with his pants down to his ankles, he had passed out watching porn. i guess "they" were doing "their" part...
Hi There, I love it when your family go with you, ang love watching your lay back approach to scrapping. I am following your advice, and leaving it better than I found it. You and the family please stay safe and take care. I never got a reply to my last foment, so hopefully you will to this one? Regards John

Great content as always, Thub! I was just out and saw a construction bin, had a peek, and there was an entire roll-up garage door for an industrial bay! Alas, my 4Runner is only so big so I had to leave a lot of material, but the score of the day was two massive chonky bits of steel that used to hold the door up, they must weigh 40 pounds each! Construction bins are my friend…
Another great video buddy 👍🏻👍🏻

You've leveled up physically. I guess that's the results of having a truck that makes you take the heavy stuff. Like those exhaust fans. I'm waiting on the video that you show us how you remove pulleys, squirrel cage fans and etc from motors. Keep doing that thing.

Well thanks! ☺️ I kinda think it’s the camera being generous, but it’s definitely true in tossing much heavier junk these days! I’m not sure what the best way is to remove those fused on bits on the end of motors.. I suppose there are a few ways but it just doesn’t feel worthwhile a lot of the time

That was such good timing, I’m so glad we got to see that!
So my dad decided to refurbish a used barbeque for me for my birthday. He ended up putting 8 hours of labor and $100 in replacement parts for a grill that sold new for $80...so I guess some people do. I didn't understand it, and frankly I would have preferred a new $80 one. Never said he's smart 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Fun times!! Thanks for sharing! A monster dumpster load, a BBQ party and a scrapyard claw …. Doesn’t get any better! Btw, if you make a vid breaking those down, I will watch it.

When the work picks up like crazy in September I want you to come down to Hamilton so you can record our rotation of 75 dumpsters. The metal that we take out is disgusting, $4000 per week nevermind not paying that weight for disposal.
Haha "some doofus is gonna come along and take just the top aluminum piece"...lol just saying, I think I've seen you do that a couple times 😂. Love your videos man, keep up the great content

The more I watch US, Canadian or even Australian scrap channels, the more I realise Great Britain is not so great when it comes to scrapping or skip (dumpster) diving. I've looked endlessly around where I live in the north of the UK & never find like what I see on this channel, Scrap & Pallet Man or Mike the Scavenger & others. All I find in street skips is rubble & any other skips worth looking in are locked away on private property. I must admit, I am very envious.☹️
Everybody was Dumpster Diving I tell you what we're finding I know it's a little bit frightening Oh, but it's so enlightening

Hey my fellow scrapper I enjoy watching all of your videos! For quite some time I have wanted to ask you a Question!! Whenever you go to the scrap yard with different types #1 iron, #2 iron, tin , cast, and so on in. With all those types in one load do you weigh in every time you take each grade off your truck? How do you make sure you get the most for each grade weight while at the yard? I don’t think I’ve seen a video on that process. I look forward to your comment!
@thubprint
3 жыл бұрын
Oh! I guess I should have covered that in the steel vid? I think I had demonstrated it briefly but yes, when I drive in there’s a big vehicle scale and I loop around and get re-weighed for each type of material. The way it’s edited it does look like I’m just going in once but I actually do a couple laps each time I’m there
@daywoo2053
3 жыл бұрын
that’s were Im messing up I just go on the scale once and empty everything in one place and they mark it mixed load or they add only one type when there’s different types. Thanks for the info Happy Scrapping!
I wish I could go up to Canada and help you I got a big truck I haul 5,000 lb or more every time I do scrap metal I'm sure that would help you a lot bigger loads
