@FriesianHorses
Welcome to my Friesian Horses channel.
My name is Yvonne. I create and post videos about my daily life with Friesian Horses. I will show you the true Friesian Horse and what they are like: day to day care, training, riding dressage and the very special birthing of foals. I explain the facts about breeding Friesian Horses and the steps I take to help better the breed.
You will learn that Friesian Horses have a naturally high gait, whether or not they can jump, if they are good for beginners and what they eat.
You will see them running, trotting, playing and even fighting.
I show you every aspect of my life with horses; the beautiful and the not so pretty. What you see in my videos is real!
Did you know that the Friesian Horse originates from Holland, specifically Friesland? That is where I live! I hope Friesian Horses will be love at first sight for you.

Wow, seeing this from this angle is really incredible. Coralle is an exemplary horse mom, nudging, urging, comforting, trying to protect -- she did all she could do. Allowing Yvonne to help, which was amazing in itself, not kicking or biting Yvonne. And Yvonne is a heroic human caretaker, wow. I cannot even imagine what she went through in those hours, in the middle of the night, doing this all by herself. What an ordeal. Bless both moms that they got through this night and kept Belle alive.

It is clear that Coralle knows that something is wrong with Belle. That is why she was so willing to let Yvonne help her.
Poor Belle is so tired. Recent research involving the release of neurosteroids which ensure the foal remains "quiet" during gestation is involved. After birth it is important these neurosteroids stop. It is believed that the switch that changes these neurosteroids occurs during birth, by the pressure exerted on the foal's body as it moves through the birth canal. The sedative neurosteriods stop production which signals the foal to wake up. Bloodwork on foals with NMS shows this production of neurosteroids still present. Just fascinating!

I have read this research also. A foal I was around when she was born, had to have the “madigan squeeze” and some plasma transfusions. She is now a very healthy mare. 👑✨🫶
Coralle, so very patient, nudging, licking, prompting; and also so very impatient, pawing the ground in worry. She's such a strong little foal, it takes all your strength, Yvonne, to get her turned out of the corner! What a night. How much love is coming also from Queen Uniek.
Dummy foals are usually like this because of the actual birthing process normally the contractions of the mare tightening around the foal trigger responses in the brain to adjust from the uterus into the real world. Dummy foals usually haven't been squeezed enough so the brain still thinks it's getting nourishment from the cord. So the body is there but no response to actually life outside. Very common in thoroughbred horses. Normally a rope tightened and released a few times around the foals body will mimick the squeeze from contractions which in turn triggers the brain into life and the sucking response. It's difficult to explain. And scary if u don't know about it.
@janicemiles7907

@nicolewischmann tyvm. I don't breed anymore.. but I find these things interesting as I could help others. I have noticed also Belle licking the zinc coated stall .metal. in the wild USA mustangs have been abandoning newborn foals local ranchers have been taking them in and trying to keep them alive. They did blood tests and kept records of these foals. They also had a type of dummy foals syndrome wandering aimlessly. Turns out they all had low zinc count in their blood. Which affect the muscles. A sort tying up in babies like pssm. Due to zinc being one of the factors in increasing oxygen flow In the body. If the mare has too much copper it reduces the zinc levels. Maybe a good idea for Yvonne to do the 7 panel test. Seeing as how she lost a foal from unique. The world is changing more and more pssm1 and pssm2 horses., if checked and caught early enough it can be managed, I know I have 2 here.. pssm1 quarter. And a pssm2 quarab. 😍 From the German vulkan eifel.

What is up with Belle? No updates scare me.
I just found out that a university near me (UC Davis vet school) has done extensive research on NMS (dummy foal syndrome), including possible causes and treatments. The university also has one of the top institutes studying human autism, and is looking into possible connections. But apparently, in the vast majority of cases where the foal is fed and cared for immediately, they grow up to live a happy, normal horse life. Thank heavens Yvonne was so quick to get to Coralle and Belle’s side! She is truly a great horse mom!

@YorkistRaven
19 күн бұрын
That there could be a connection between what causes dummy foal syndrome and autism in humans is fascinating. I have high functioning autism {Asperger's}, and was born blue, the cord around my neck. Dummy foal syndrome does not have to be the result of lack of perinatal oxygen. It can be just the neurosteroid hormone not turning off at birth.

I am glad that we know that Belle made it through this very scary night and is now a healthy foal. You have certainly had many difficulties as a stal owner and I admire both your persistence and your compassion. Bauke is a good partner in this, especially since he’s not really a horse guy. ❤
I am always so amazed at the wealth of knowledge available on the comments here. I have learned SO much. Why the "dummy foal" syndrome happens, how to treat it, how doing the Madison squeeze helps to "wake up" the neurological system. It all makes so much sense. Considering that Belle Uniek was still in a state of "sedation" from her neurological system not having been properly "woke up", she showed incredible strength and a strong will to live. Corelle was the absolute best Mem during the whole event. I, too, was glad that Yvonne had let us know beforehand that Belle Uniek was okay and doing very well. I personally have not owned a horse of my own, but have loved them since I was a young girl. This channel is my favorite horse channel and I have watched it every day for over three years. My hobby is showing Australian Terriers and have been doing this for 20 years. I do know that in the dog world, in the event of a C-section, they do a similar procedure on the newborn puppies where they are squeezed. This helps to express excess fluid from the lungs, after reading about the purpose of the Madison squeeze, I wonder if it helps wake up their neurological system too. Well done, Yvonne!! Thank you for sharing all that you have! Much love to you, Bauke, the boys and all the horses, Miss Glendy, who I particularly love, and all the ponies who make me laugh and smile with their mischievous antics, they help keep things light hearted 🥰. Much love to everyone at Stal H that help you and help care for all the horses and ponies. From Eva and the Australian Terrier paws in Wyoming, USA ❤️
This is a very stressful situation. I have worked with horses many years, but I have never heard of “dummy foal” syndrome. I’ve experienced births and never have I seen a foal have this type of trouble. Very unusual and uncommon issue. I respect your dedication. Truly. Good job.
Aaaaaaaaw I will also miss Uniek's antics. So sweet that she could witness the birth of her foal & see what a great mother Coralle is.
So stressful to watch, but we do know Belle Uniek is now doing fine. Yvonne saved her life! Can't wait to see the next video when Belle Uniek nurses from Coralle ❤
Poor little Belle, off to a shaking start but she is in the right place for all the care she will need. She is so sweet.
Coralle is a great momma shes doing everything right.
The panic. We've had a dummy calf before, we ended up passing a tube into his belly to get colostrum into him. After that, and a nap, he got smarter. Scary, especially with such a valuable foal. I'm glad we already know she got better.
The difference in overview camera versus handheld is amazing. Both are great.👍 Up close (handheld) you can really see the love Corrella takes at nestling, touching and loving sweet Belle. Also, the struggle all new born foals experience getting on their long hoofs. The cheering inside we experience as Belle tries to get her legs under herself each time. Resting in the knowledge that you, Yvonne, have experienced this time and again. And you know what each step is required to maintain a healthy foal. Thank you Yvonne for taking such great care in lovingly handling each situation as it arises.❤❤

I've never seen a dummy foal before. So sad that she doesn't have the instinct...but I know there must be a happy ending as far as nursing is concerned. ❤
The channel has always said it willl show all parts of life with breeding horses, the good and the bad. Gea's foal Zenna having trouble early on - took a long time to stand and drink, if I recall correctly, but they didn't mention anything about wanderer/dummy syndrome at the time. Of course Uniek's stillborn son Star, slipping away just before we were able to greet him. Geertjie's colt becoming very ill and needing to be put to sleep after a few months, and the same with Matilda and Marije's herd mate (I forget her name 😢), she had wobblers, hence why Yvonne was so distraught when Risey was first diagnosed... And then the Queen's passing a few days after thia. It can be a cruel world at times, and we can feel like we have "bad luck", like Yvonne says... But of course we also have such happiness in it too. We will be here watching it all ❤

Coralle is such a good mem, first trying to get Belle to stand and then nurse. ❤ I love how Queen Uniek is watching it all with great interest! 👑
Coralle is a great mem and must have been absolutely exhausted trying to get Belle up. It looked as though Uniek, after looking at Belle, was asking you to help out. Hopefully Belle, after this start, will only get better and better. 🍀🍀🍀🙏🙏🐎🇬🇧
I am so glad Yvonne has let us know Belle Uniek is fine because my anxiety level is so high watching this baby struggle.

Its good knowing everything turned out well. Sorry you had to go through this very scary time. I had a friend who had a dummy foal that was wobbly, uncoordinated and wouldn't nurse or suckle and kept away from mom. The vet did the Madagan Foal Squeeze. It mimics the pressure of birthing on the foal which increases signals to the foals brain through hormones released that encourages foal instincts like suckling etc.. The foal actually fell asleep breathing normal while the vet put pressure on thoracic area with rope and in just 10 minutes when pressure was released it hopped up strong and went straight to Mom to nurse. No more dummy foal symptoms. Again, I am so glad that we have seen things worked out. So hard to see you go through this.
Coralle seem to understand you are there to help sweet belle Uniek it's sad to watch her struggle to stand up and nurse.but its great you are there .She's so beautiful 💜💕👍

Has Belle whinnied yet?
This is the 2nd video I have watched and still as anxious as ever for that precious baby to start to drink. It was lovely for Queen Uniek to be watching this as well. Yvonne, you are a Saint for caring for all of your horses the way you do. Take care and God bless ❤
Yvonnes frustration with the situation never changes the fact she's on a mission. My hero. Coralle is such an attentive mother. For what I understand she's 12 years old and never given birth. So many surprises. 🐎😊

So true. Yvvone is a great inspiration to me in my life. Never gives up, always kind and gentle to others. Loving to her family friends and animals. A true super woman even after an accident that would have many still in a bed she’s out mucking in . When life throws me a curve ball ( trouble) I think of all Yvonne does in her day and and I take a breathe and just get on with life. Yvonne taught me we only agave 1 life to follow our dreams.
It speaks volumes, Yvonne, about you as a person and as a horse handler that Coralle felt confident enough to allow you to help her when little Belle so obviously needed your help. You’re a very special lady who I’m proud to call my friend. xxxxxxxxx

@@mandydavidson6694 Belle has three moms, each one has a loving heart and will see her through. They are all amazing , four strong females will succeed 💖💖💖💖 ! It is so beautiful to watch !
Your video bring back feelings, the agony and panic when it doesn’t go as easy as it should. I remember when our Rina was born, she was not allowed to drink by her mother at first.. Diesel was kicking and walking away. We had to hold her and at last we succeeded after several hours ! We had also called the vet.for the remaining parts in uterus for Diesel and do a blood test on Rina. After the first day with so much handling you could think that she should be used to be near people but no,Rina was horrible shy as colt and didn’t want to walk with us ,always two steps back for each step forward. We continued to handle her gently and persistent and now she is a cool intelligent horse at soon seven years old.
This is so hard to watch. Coralle is going everything she can. Yvonne is a very brave woman! It breaks my heart to see her so worried❤️
Yvonne, you're the bomb girl! You are so smart. I am so relieved you were there to help. You show it like it is. Thank you for sharing this with us. ♥🐎
I’m stressed just watching this video. I can only imagine what it was like for Yvonne. So fortunate that Yvonne was able to build so much trust with Coralle during the previous months. Poor Coralle. She’s a first time mother but she knows something is wrong and looks to Yvonne for help.
Come in, Belle. You can do it!!!+ ❤❤❤❤
❤ let's hope that Belle from a dummy foal she becomes a intelligent, award winning mare that will bring her the accorded status as Uniek. ❤❤
Trying to watch this is just too sad. All I can do is cry for this innocent baby. 💕
Corralle is certainly persistent! What a great mother. Yvonne, you sure did a great job picking Coralle to be the mother of that very special foal. Watching both you and Coralle working together to help Belle is simply beautiful. Corralle will always hold a spot in my heart. 🥰
O noo another cliffhanger🙈, i truely hope Belle will turn out oke, this is terrible. Poor Yvonne, how stressful! Sending you, Coralle and Belle lots of love❤️

Belle is is doing very well!
Coralle is so attentive to Bella. What a good Mem❤
After reading about this condition (Neonatal maladjustment syndrome) at UC Davis Center for Equine Health, I was shocked at how serious this condition is. They discuss a method that has a very high success rate called the Madigan Squeeze Technique. They mimic the pressure the foal feels when traveling through the birth canal during birth by tying a rope around the foal for 20 minutes. This pressure triggers the hormone that wakes the foal up. The foal is sedated while in the womb. Dummy foals are still in this sedated state. Coralle shows a lot of trust in Yvonne; looking at her for help. She must have been asking "what's wrong with my baby?" Thank goodness, Coralle and Belle had Yvonne to take care of them. 💕💕🐎🐎
It so warms my heart and maked me sad at the same. So glad Queen 👑 Uniek got to see her baby be born before her passing. She looked so longing toward little Belle. I could practically feel her longing for a baby. She was such a wonderful momma.😊😢❤
Coralle is trying so hard to help little Belle. She is succh a good mother. ❤
I was on the edge of my seat watching the dummy foal video. Such a short time to do so much after being born! Get those long legs organised, stand, walk, drink from the udder. Truly horses are amazing.
I'd like to believe that on some level Queen Uniek knew that Belle was her daughter. I get this feeling based on how Uniek was looking at her after she was born.
I think Belle has a face like Uniek, and legs like a spider 😄😍

Love the bond and trust Corollla has with Yvonne. I do hope she stays once Belle is weaned ❤
All I can say is bless you heart and I am so glad Princess Uniek has you as its human mom. Continued prayers for you, boss Rein, Risey and Glendy and still gonna whisper prayers for a short time for our little princess.
I can't get over the beautiful head and legs like Uniek with this foal, but sadly, this reminded me of autism. My sister gave birth to a large and seemingly healthy baby girl, but somewhere along the way, she was not doing normal progressions. She was a first child, so my sister just wasn't sure of developmental things. It turns out that during the birth, there was a block of oxygen causing hypolexia/autism. It was/is heartbreaking. Googling dummy foals and human autism just now, results in that very comparison. I'm hoping Yvonne was able to do some of the things they do to "wake up" the foal...I guess we have to wait and see what she had to do then, and what happens next. Yvonne is ever more a rock star in my eyes, because of all the challenges she has overcome, time after time:)

This was filmed 26th MARCH. We're told Mother & baby are doing well now, 6 weeks later.
Princess Belle has her mom's face and nose - the strong Friesian nose - not the dishy ones that some are showing now - she's going to be quite a presence like her mom. God bless you through this Yvonne, you have a gift with these babies. Coralle has blossomed with your care. She's become so well adjusted and trusting because of you.

Belle's head is 100% noble. I love the strong, straight nose of a Frieisian. Dish face is for Arabians...and a Roman nose is for a plough horse.
