Why would it be ironic? I think you mean sarcasm but there's none of that either. Duke Nukem 3D is regarded as one of the best classic FPS games ever made and that would put it in pretty good stead to be considered one of the finest games ever made too. I don't think that's a particularly spicy take. Or... are you about to bare your arse for all to see?

​@@NickTaylor-Phantom-Works2 I love a LOT of dogshit games but I don't think saying Duke 3D is a legitimate all-timer me being a bit crazy with the takes. In fact, I'd say that it is out and out shit is probably more of a hot take than saying it's a belter! If you wound it in ever so slightly, it'd hit harder. Say it's mediocre at best, or something?

I will have a gander at some of your other uploads though- see if I can pointlessly criticise you on some other trivial matter. Worse case, it's more viewing figures for the algorithm. Any recommendations mate?

Duke 1 and 2 is the reason why I just bought an evercade! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we eventually get the original wolfenstein on it!

You're in for a treat! It'll be hard to get over the line thanks to being Bethesda/Microsoft owned but if they could do a classic ID Software collection, or a retro FPS set with Hexen/Heretic, I'd be all over those.

@@andihamilton I bet that's the case for most people! I on the other hand was a complete sucker for the WiiU. I almost bought every game when it released and I had so much fun with the System. But I can't deny all the shortcomings and disappointing stuff the WiiU had. Great Review by the way! Wonderful content :)

You are in for a good time!

I'm from the US so I'm waiting for my Atomic edition Evercade to get here, but this has been really informative. I was really curious which version of Duke Nukem 3D we were getting and while a little disappointed it's the PS port, I'm happy to hear it has all the new levels and also keeps the level made exclusively for that version making it a pseudo definitive PS version. I'm excited to see both new remasters for older games as well as brand new games made exclusively for the console solidifying it as a low budget, yet good quality alternative for gamers.

I think if you go in with those expectations you won't be disappointed. The most important part for me is they all work well on the Evercade.

I have to say i missed my duke nukem from back in the days and i am so greatful that he is making a return. I need him more than ever ;) but those framerates on Total Meltdown are… worrying. Still better than my PAL version from the past. Thx for the video review

I don't have the tools or the time to check to see if they've improved them over the original release but using my eyes I don't think they have. Might be something that gets patched down the line?

The framerate seems to be an issue. It is a pity that a proper source port was not released instead. Gearbox used to have a version that worked excellently on PS Vita, which is a somewhat comparable handheld in terms of performance.

This entire review seems laser focused to, specifically, me. Fond memories of playing Duke 1 and 2 on the family's old IBM and I sort of want to keep those memories in the past. Sounds like they've made changes to the game that would actually make them worth revisiting though. Glad Evercade got the right man for the job on reviewing this. Me and the other 29 guys who watch this stuff appreciate it.

@@CZpersi Doesn't the Vita have dual analog though? Controlling those source ports with digital only might be a bit of a headache... although they definitely would run way better than this.

@@CZpersi no I like to see him shoot the shit out whatever is in the way, I just think the jokes are way better in some of the games than the others. Being offensive isn't a problem to me - Good writing is good, bad writing is bad. Lazy writing is lazy. Funny writing is funny. It's not hard to figure out unless you're looking to miss the point intentionally?

Genuinely had no interest in the Duke collections at all. No nostalgia for the series and to be honest they look ropey as fuck. However, due to this video and a couple of other Evercade reviewers, I did pick up the first collection in the end. I've only played the remastered Duke Nukem 1 so far, but I'll be damned if it's not the most fun I've had with a game so far this year. Also, loving the Evercade reviews - more of this! :)

They're coming, they're easier to do now I've got a VS. Easier to capture.

The framerate of Duke Nukem Advance is likely due to the use of the EU version of the rom. I have an official US GBA cartridge and it runs much smoother than that. I did an experiment injecting first the EU, then the US version into the Virtual Console of my 3DS, and the EU version ran like crap, identical to the Evercade version, while the US version was smooth and very playable.

That is really weird, especially considering that this isn't some 50hz/60hz problem like a lot of EU/US issues. The EU ROM must just be far, far less optimised by the looks of things! Well spoitted! Hopefully they can switch it out but there's normally a load of red tape around doing stuff like that, unfortunately.
