Duff McKagan "It's So Easy: And Other Lies" with Rolling Stone's David Fricke

In this raw, utterly candid memoir, Duff McKagan, the rock legend and founding member of Guns N' Roses and rock supergroup Velvet Revolver, shares his story of excess, angst, struggle and triumph. It's So Easy details Duff's rise to the pinnacle of fame and fortune, his struggles with alcoholism and drug addiction, his personal crash and burn, his phoenix-like transformation via a unique path to sobriety, and his success as a savvy business investor and loving husband and father.
In a voice that is as honest as it is indelibly his own, Duff-one of rock's smartest and most articulate personalities-takes readers on his harrowing journey through the dark heart of one of the most notorious bands in rock-and-roll history and out the other side.
David Fricke, Senior Editor at Rolling Stone, will moderate the discussion with Duff on the Strand Stage.

What i get from this is that Duff orchestrated the reunion a long time ago, and made it happen in tiny steps. He's the glue of the band and he's known that the whole time. I'm very happy that he knows what his role is. I salute the man.

I would recommend Duff's book to any GNR fan who wants to know the truth about GNR. I love all of the members and I've read Slash's book but the only Guns member I would trust completely and know that he's telling the truth is Duff. He is the most genuine, humble, down to earth, sweet person I have ever seen from the rock n' roll scene.

I loved G N'R (still do) but never delved into the individuals behind the music. This book was given to me as a gift; which I never really thought I would get around to reading. So glad I did. Just finished the book last night. Honestly, I couldn't put it down. Sad, joyous, awesome, heartbreaking, funny, ... inspirational. What Duff has accomplished after getting sober truly got me energized and has caused me to look into my own existence; to push myself and live life to the fullest. Thank you, Duff!!

HestonDog Same! I couldn't put it down either, read it in 2 days. Even took a photo of one of the last pages where he thanked every single one of the GNR members, I don't know why. :D He really is very inspiration and I will always respect the guy as a musician and a person.

TheJDfairy The acknowledgements at the end were great and you can tell they came from the heart. The part that hit home for me was when he mentioned his daughters and hoping they would not be embarrassed if they ever read the book. I play in a band and have 2 daughters as well - same age as his. So I can relate to what he says about wanting to be a good father and wanting to steer them clear of those same "holes" in the road.

Oh my lord, I love this man. GnR changed my life and since 88 I have loved them with a passion that will last until my dying breath. I savoured every word of this book and the thing that struck me more than anything is just how much Duff has achieved in his life….he seems to have reached the pinnacle of everything he set his mind to and as a result had lived a lifetime before he was even 40. His book showed me that some people take the safe road and some take risks. Both options are fine as not all of us can deal with the dark side of a risk taking life, but even if you take the safe road make sure you always keep learning. And keep challenging yourself. This man has entertained me at so many points in my life and also taught me some of the big lessons, for a rewarding and successful life. Big love. Big respect.

I love Duff so much. He seem like an honest great guy. I recently bought his book a few months back and I loved it a lot. It gives you a clear and honest view and he doesn't make himself look better the any of the other people involved. I'm so glad Duff survived all of the crap he went through and that he's here doing so many great thing for himself, for others. He is a real inspiration.

First off, this is one of the most sobering books i have read in years. I read this book in 2 1/2 days, could NOT put it down. I have the utmost respect for Duff. For years I never liked him or anyone in that band (mainly because of Rose..) I misjudged him. As far as I am concerned, he's on the same level of honesty writing about addiction as Pete Townshend and Alice Cooper...and that's saying alot

Diary Entry for : Nov 27th 1997, location: unknown city, Temp: 11 degress C, rain/sleet. # of cigarettes today - 3 packs . Dear Diary- today Axl walked off again....fkn @-hole. Again, where am I ?? Great conversation. Fricke is skillful in his natural unstructured questions -he actually reflects on Duf's answers and asks logical questions, not like most where someone pours their heart out and the host cuts it off and asks some totally unrelated next question lol. Love Duff, he's the real deal; honest, naturally articulate even in his drug GnR interviews, humble and intrepid , always keeps going...one step at a time. His power is his acceptance of being comfortable with the mystery ; the not knowing his path and allowing it to unfold - giving up control . That opens up more possibilities.

Guns n Roses had one brilliant, indelible LP. Part of the rock n roll canon. Then Axl went off the fucking rails, and we got a double album bloated with nonsense like "November Rain" and "Estranged"-- Axl thought he was Elton John or some shit. I saw GnR twice-- once in 1987, opening for the Cult (Talk about an opening act annihilating the headliners!), then in early 91-- by then, Steven Adler was gone. Izzy was still with em, though. They just weren't the same band really. Fame and success destroyed G n R as surely as it ruined Kurt Cobain.

+Paul Snider yup, couldn't have said it better myself. though I wouldn't put too much blame on Axl, a lot had to do with everyone's major drug/substance problems. a more sober band may have lasted longer. but Appetite is still the number 1 debut album and that's a huge achievement.

Coma is an outstanding piece of music, as well as One In A Million, Axl knew how to push limits and punch through walls, people criticize his November Rain, Don't Cry, etc, however how many of the critics can play the music in spite of the enormous success GNR had.... they were a group of 5 very talented musicians, I saw them live in 1987, best concert I have ever seen. And I have seen numerous bands, from country to metal and everything inbetween.... so yeah I saw history, the 5 originals, the 5 guys who broke boundaries like no other band every did in history.

jlarsena Lemmy - real name Ian Fraser Kilmister - has been affected by health issues related to diabetes since 2000. Last year the band pulled out of their European tour citing the bass player's health as the reason. The gigs were already rescheduled once from their original 2013 dates due to the same issues. Also in 2013, Lemmy suffered a haematoma, which caused the cancelation of gigs in Italy and Austria, and was fitted with a pacemaker after being diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat. Speaking to the New York Times after the procedure, a downbeat Lemmy said "I'll never get a job again. I'm paying for the good times, I suppose. It's a mixture of all the things I ever did - and I did plenty." When asked if he'd stopped drinking, he responded: "I've already given up smoking. I drink wine and that's it."
