Utterly brilliant choice of music. The iambic pentameter of his fear. Almost to the point, his rearmost orifice was dancing to the beat 😀

My mom drove a 1974 Plymouth Grand Fury, 1977 Plymouth Volare’, and 1984 Dodge Caravan. Between those experiences of being stranded with her as a child frequently and watching the mechanical problems Dennis Weaver experienced in this movie ensured I would never set foot on a Plymouth Dodge dealership ever as an adult.

I still have a bad taste in my mouth from those crappy old dodge cars I would NEVER buy a new dodge. I honestly feel that was about modern Chevys too.

A low budget movie, originally produced for TV. Later, scenes were added, so it could be played in cinemas. Spielberg's first masterpiece.

The old Valiant had a 318 likely the truck could be out ran. The old slant six in stock form is an anemic engine, putters along steady, not much for getting anywhere fast. Remember this movie on TV over 40yrs ago, still like this movie.

The Valiant used in the film was actually 3 different cars. For the television release there was a 1970 with a 318 V8 (as witnessed by the 1970-only "V-EIGHT" spear-type emblems on the forward portion of the front fenders), and a 1971 with a 225 slant six. When the added scenes were filmed, a 1972 Valiant with a 225 Slant Six was used.

Nice. Need to put this on my watch movie list.

I believe that Sierra Highway and Soledad Canyon Road (where most of Duel was filmed) still exist some 50 years later.

If the Valiant has the slant six, especially the lowly stock one with one barrel carb, not even a super six, I doubt the Valiant had much power to get away from that truck. I had an 1980 Cordoba with a one barrel stock slant, and it could barely get up to 55 in 10 minutes😃😂. I wouldn't have wanted to showdown with that truck in my old Cordoba, it would have been a tragedy Im afraid.

The song matched perfectly with the setting of the film, in my opinion David Mann found himself with his own opposite personality something he always tried to avoid: The hostile temper, the act of resolving things like a real man and show who owns of the territory, in the film his wife mentions to have been almost raped by the neighbor and David says that it would solve peacefully that situation talking with that stalker. David was an honest man, friendly and passive, he fell into a challenge of life and had to face his greatest fear.

The 65 Pete was in the added scenes, the school bus and railroad crossing scenes. The truck for the rest of the movie is a 55 model. If you look at the added scenes the 65 has a much longer wheelbase. The 65 can also be seen at the gas station at the beginning they added the phone call scene and you can tell the truck definitely changes between shots.

Speilbergs first freaked lucas out and said here is another one and became partners
