Making Duel truck (1971) Peterbilt 281 and a realistic movie set including miniatures of the Plymouth Valiant car and the California Mesa Canyon diorama.
Handmade full tutorial.
We built both car and truck in 1:18 and in 1:24 scale models.
We used 3D Printing for the truck cabs and the tanker trailers
3D print by protofusion.ras.ovh
Full tutorial to film the truck crash ending scene just like in Steven Spielberg's first movie in 1971.
We shot the truck and car crash stunt in slow motion with 5 cameras:
- 3x Sony A7S III at 240 fps HD
- 1x Freefly Wave at 300 fps 4K
- 1x Gopro 9 Black at 200 fps HD
Slowed down and upscaled during the editing.
Duel movie in 4K !
Items I used to build it:
1/18 Peterbilt chassis: amzn.to/3FDR4uA
Tamiya Gold paint spray: amzn.to/3MKaaTR
Copper paint spray: amzn.to/3SiLMfk
Color Primer spray: amzn.to/3sbGhV8
Matte varnish spray: amzn.to/3SoauuT
Acrylic Paint Set: amzn.to/3Mk3hrO
Modeler tools kit: amzn.to/3tZ8L4Y
Weathering set: amzn.to/472YpQ8
Main truck and trailer colour: amzn.to/3QgoJPK

classic's never gettin' old and always reborn! I have always been surprised and still am surprised by one thing in the film. How 1971 Plymouth Valiant at its speed of 86 miles per hour could not get away from Peterbilt 281, even if empty, which could not accelerate above 74 miles per hour. BUT I understand, it was done for the sake of entertainment, not truthfulness

the fact the truck falls similar to the film, lands quite close to the film. PLUS dedication to detail of everything. as a SUPERFAN of Duel ( my all time fave film) I'd love to see a shot 4 shot remake with miniatures. don't have to do all in between shots, stops, just the main road stuff, bus, train scene. got the ending near exact. well done

Great job guys, except....the original car that was used in this 1971 'DUEL' film was not a 1975 Plymouth Fury sedan! It was a 1971 Plymouth Valiant 4-door sedan with 318 V8 'small block' (Chrysler A-Body). They used 2 cars and possibly 3 cars, but the main one being the 1971 Valiant and a back-up being a 1972 Valiant. Both (if not a 3rd car) used were a factory stock Chrysler 'E5 Red' paint scheme, and the only differences in the film is that the 1972 Plymouth Valiant was used for what is called for the 'add-in scenes' during the filming like in the gas station, also when he pushed the bus, but the main car you see in the action scenes was the original 318 V8 1971 Plymouth Valiant 4-door sedan. Hope that helps a bit...👍😎

@@Floridaredwing25 ... I stand corrected, just as you need to stand corrected! My slight error, but the model he's using in this video is a *_'1977 Plymouth Fury'_* modelled after the _'Dukes Of Hazzard'_ cop car! *PERIOD. FULL STOP.* So I'll permit you to keep _'believing'_ in whatever you desire...BUT...in the 2nd season of the filming of the Dukes of Hazard...yes, they used a 1977 Dodge Monaco and not a 1978 Dodge Monaco which has a _'split line front grill'_ and _'upright'_ square-ish tail-lights whereas by the 4th season, the correct 1977 Plymouth Fury 4-door sedan C-Body *NEVER* had a split grill, but a *SOLID* undivided horizontal grill and a long horizontal _'in-bumper tail-light'_ design just like this die-cast Greenlight Artisan model is used to make this video! This specific 1977 Plymouth Fury 4-door sedan was an ---> *_'A38 Police Pursuit Package'_* nick-named as a *_'Fury Pursuit'_* with a 255-HP 440-powered MoPar V8 special order and was specially built by Chrysler for the *_'Police Pursuit'_* versions with over 80% of cops using this very model back in the day and these cop cars had a *_'Special Handling Package'_* which included a battery heat shield, 12" Police brakes, 140-mph calibrated speedometer, firm Police power steering and heavy duty seats! And don't get me goin' kid...I'm 70 years young, owned more classic muscle cars that you can ever dream of back in the 1970's which included a rare *_'1968 Camaro Z28 RS 302 cubic inch 290HP'_* with a *_'4-speed Muncie'_* ...but especially an even rarer than ever....a *_'1970 AAR Trans Am 'Cuda'_* which I should have never ever gotten rid of those two extremely *RARE* gems! *MIKE DROP* ....I'm atta here !!!
That was incredible , an amazing special effect a great tribute to the original film Duel !
