I have to come to Ping’s defense a little here. While he is extremely invested in his noodles, seemingly to the point of disregarding Po, he doesn’t hold Po back from following his dreams. He’s just incredibly supportive of his son. When Po gets knocked down, he picks him up, dusts him off and sets him on his way again, but never without letting Po know that if it ever becomes too hard, he will always be welcome back home.

The reason that "believing makes it real" works for this movie only works because of the Villain! It's not just that Tai Lung wanted to be the Dragon Warrior, HE HAD THE POTENTIAL! Ex: After having the nerve attack performed on him ONLY ONCE, which knocked him out, HE PERFECTED IT after 20 years of immobility, not even able to practice it! Remind you of a other character? Po saw Shifu make the pose of the wuxi finger hold, AND FIGURED IT OUT! The scroll wasn't a secret ingredient. It was a filter. ONLY someone humble and selfless would understand its message, and be worthy if the title! Tai Lung had to much arrogance and entitlement, which Oogway saw. ETA: Po could stand up to Tai Lung because he had the durability (demonstrated when the Five tried to wear him down), and his fat resisted the nerve attack, as demonstrated during the (failed) acupuncture.

Tai Lung would've beaten Po eventually but he lost the motivation after seeing the blank scroll. Because come on, Po beating to Tail Lung after a few weeks/months of training is clearly plot armor. Tai Lung had decades of experience and training. Plus, Po is like a total foil to Tai Lung. Extremely durable and an object of blunt force.

@@dariusbrock2713 Belief takes priority over skill because no matter how talented you are, if you lack inspiration, faith, and trust, you will never achieve your full potential. Whether if you lack skill and talent but are inspired to do your best and have the trust and faith of others, you will achieve enough to make a difference, even if you can't be the best. Po was fated to defeat Tai Lung, it was his destiny, fate chose him precisely because nobody else could have done it, all he needed was to believe. People often underestimate the power of faith in this nihilistic era we live in, but there is proof surrounding us everyday, that it's power is true. Believe. Honestly I would say it is 100% worth it to finish both the Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon trilogies. They are both fantastic animated movie trilogies and I would say deserve the watch, they both do build on the characters and the worlds they both have established and are just a good time. The How to Train your Dragon movies definitely hold the top spot over the Kung Fu Panda movies but I just think dragons are sick lmao

I was really surprised by how spot on you were about Po's unique ability. For context, the Furious Five are based on styles of Kung Fu named after animals. Tiger style, crane style, etc. Po, however, uses the style known as "Dragon style", which is all about taking and bouncing back damage in order to get an opening

His reaction to oogway saying the iconic, "Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift - that is why it is called the present," was literally me as a kid. And frankly still me as an adult. It's so simple, and comes from an animated kids movie, but it is so poignant and applicable for everyone. If you want a more complex arc for Po do watch the second movie. It's a great movie mostly for the villain and how he ties into everything. Dreamworks somehow always surpasses themselves with sequels. (applies to How to train your dragon, but that you better watch the whole trilogy, since i feel the 2° movie is just de half of the story that unfolds on the third one)

18:40 It's more of a self keeping secret type of thing. If you know the secret then you've already proven you have the right to know it. In this instance: If you're trained enough to be recognised as the Dragon Warrior (the greatest Kung Fu master in all of China) and given the Dragon Scroll to make you even stronger then you don't really need to become stronger using the Scroll because you're already the Dragon Warrior * the greatest Kung Fu master in all China.*

To be honest I'm kinda glad Po got the Dragon Warrior and not one of the five. When you think about it, the rest of the five would have treated the Warrior differently and they wouldn't really have the dynamic of a team anymore cause there would probably be resentment, distrust and jealousy amongst the group. But with Po being the Dragon Warrior they can get over it easier without falling into all that because it was only directed at someone they don't know.

  • @MelodyYoung

They established Po's resistance to the nerve attack earlier in the film when he was getting acupuncture and Mantis was struggling to find his pressure points. What makes Po able to defeat Tai Lung is all the things that made everyone doubt him. In the first film he's not uniquely strong at all, he learns to do some pretty great Kung Fu by the end, but he definitely isn't on Tai Lungs level in terms of skill mastery. The whole point is that he brings something different to the table that nobody else could've brought. I actually think they do a great job of setting up exactly how Po could defeat someone as impossibly strong as Tai Lung.

The reason Tai Lung lost to Po was the same reason he beat the Furious Five and the same reason Shifu didn't know how to train Po. Shifu taught Tai Lung everything he knew, including the fighting styles of all the great masters that came before them. The only one skilled enough to beat him was Oogway, and Tai Lung managed to copy his techniques after seeing them once. However, there has never been a Kung Fu master that was a Panda, which we can tell from everyone's reactions to how ridiculous it is for Po to even _try_ Kung Fu. No one has _ever_ had to fight a Panda that knows Kung Fu before, so they don't know what does and doesn't work. During the montage where the Five and Shifu were trying to break his spirit, Po just kept getting back up with no broken bones or other serious injuries. _Nothing_ they tried could put him down for good. Tai Lung only knew how to fight conventional martial artists and just couldn't deal enough damage to Po to make anything stick, all the while exhausting himself in his anger and desperation. Add in the Wuxi Finger Hold as a PG-safe way for the hero to kill the villain, and it was a done deal.

One of the best movies by Dreamworks is Prince of Egypt. It is arguably Dreamworks' Magnum Opus.

I really hope you continue watching this franchise. It's generally fandom consensus that the 2nd movie is the best one!
