454 is a Chevy motor. As far as I know that ford never made a 454. Correct me if I’m wrong though
I’m the guy that brought this truck out of mothballs. I built my tiny house with it and did all the maintenance on it. Kept it stock. I’m glad Dave is enjoying it.

That's a great truck. I think I'd rather have that and 75K in the bank than a 2019 Super Duty. The owner's a hoot to boot!

Mark Deters That truck is constantly falling apart that goes for any other old car or truck it actually cost more to keep a old car or truck going then a new car or truck when you add up that the old one breaks down and add up when most of these old trucks were beat the heck out of so there usually worn out so there going to need a Engine or transmission you can buy one test to see if every thing is okay but your still taking a gamble but don't expect your going to drive it 100 thousand 200 thousand trouble free miles.
@jakecreech1659

charger master Oh come on do you really believe that you would stick tens of thousands of dollars into an old truck to keep it running? Even if you had to buy a new engine and transmission you'd have less into it that a year or two of a payment on a new truck.

New vehicles dont go for 100 to 200 thousand trouble free miles theyre all built like appliances now to be thrown out and buy a new one These old trucks can be kept going very easily if you work on it yourself and theyre easy to work on yourself

I own a 1988 F250 with the 7.3 diesel in it. It has the C6 trans as well, probably one of the best transmissions Ford built, tough and reliable. But then again, the whole truck was built like a Sherman tank, built to take a beating and last.

FutureRN_Corey _ yeah, I myself got a 81 Dodge Ram D-150 with a very well maintained exterior and little rust problems. I am sure, if I take care of those tiny rust spots early, it could potentially outlive me...
Ford was on a roll 1980's to mid 90's. Find one without rust, and run it forever.
I bought my first 6.9 Diesel Ford in 1986. I ordered the F250 XLT 4x4 super cab with bucket seats and a four speed manual shift. 1986 was the first year with a true four speed gear box. I absolutely loved that truck. After owning it for a couple of years I installed a Banks turbo and exhaust system and loved it even more. We pulled a 32 foot Toy House loaded with four quads all over the west coast. She was a work horse and I kept it for thirteen years before trading in. The truck cost me 16,000.00 new with every option Ford had in 1986. I'm glad to see that there are still some around.
Omg, $1500... I’m so happy for the dude 😁

No news here, I been driving my 1985 F250 4x4, 6.9L non turbo diesel since new for the last 33 years, hard to beat, I spent the first 15 year doing a lot of heavy trailer pulling and I did have to have the C6 transmission rebuilt at 274,000 miles but its still going strong today.

I think its really cool that Mr. Berkovits got his truck featured and that he's so excited about it. Its a super clean old truck and old trucks somehow are more exciting than new ones to me. Especially when they're paid for. I hope it gives him many years of trouble free service.
I finally got mine last month. 1986 F250 6.9L one owner west coast truck. Same truck exactly as this guy. 115K miles. Owner was 93 when he died, I somehow found it and bought it, had it shipped to me here in the Midwest. She just purrs. I am in love again, don't tell my wife or my 2003 PSD 😊 It'll never see the snow and it will only see rain if I get unlucky. Not a speck of rust, upholstery like new. Guy really took care of it and so will I.
Dude! I LOVED my old 1978 Ford F-250 4 wheel drive! A huge 460 cubic inch motor...Tall 4 speed stick..and most of all a red plastic covered rife rack on the rear window! What's not to love?!

It wasn't too bad back then. Even though gas prices were on the rise ( about a buck per gallon) I recall the gas tank having a decent capacity and as such wasn't all that much of a issue for me. I do confess, "I" didn't drive it everyday since I still was a motorcycle kind of guy back then too.
I got a similar steal on my '86 F250 and I love it! 460 V8, 4x4, 85000 original miles... The Bullnose is greatly under appreciated.
Paid 500 for my first truck. It was a hydrolocked 1987 f350, crew cab, 8 foot bed that sat for 11 years before I scoped it up. Had 63k original miles on it.
I had one just like it and traded it back in 2014 and I've been kicking myself ever since.
when ford still had quality and lasted a lifetime.

if only the broug back the square body pickup with v8 in the 180 to 260 hp and some full size on frame familly cars. id prefer to pay less for older style cars with features that i want and love instead of more for features that i dont lke and want and have no use for. the last hurrah of vehicules build for customers need were the 90's with a few here and there in the early 200's. now its all bells and whistles and turbos and gadget and 700 hp with screen etc¸ all i wan is something like a galaxie with a few v8 choices. low reving with moderate power with and old style auto trans and cranks to lower the windows...yes sir cranks
Nice! I have an 88 F150 with 46k Original on it and a 74 F100. My "modern" Truck though is a 2017 Ram 1500. Just can't do a whole Aluminum Truck yet!

This is why I like watching TFL because you guys really know what truck guys want to see. A good truck deserves a good owner, and a good owners deserves a good truck.👍
When it comes to engines in trucks one thing to remember is this was an era of modest horsepower and good low end torque.
I had one of these in 4 wheel drive 1 ton F-350 4 speed stick. Best truck I ever owned!!!! 19 mpg at 60 mph. Texas to California and back.
What is cool about this guy is, he is proud as hell about his truck. Period. That should be every man.
I've owned three 1986 f250 diesels and love them all. The one I currently still own is a 4x4, 4-speed, reg-cab long bed one owner rust free from Oregon that had excellent care. I will run it for a long time and then restore it.

Love my 89' crew dually 7.3! No plugs over four years. No coal. Have to keep it warm like a WWII German fighter plane in winter, but it rolls like a badass.
i had an 86 F250 with a 351w 4 barrel Holley ,C6 trans. it was a 2wd .in 85 & 86 Ford made the the 250 and 350 non catalst .they reburned the emissions into the manifold .that truck was great i miss it very much
Awesome video! Need more reviews of old trucks with their owners.
That guy seemed like a nice guy. Glad to see a video of a old 6.9
Thanks tfl for shedding some light on the old idi for us idi lovers
Dave is an american treasure
You gotta love old trucks. Low horse power. Insane amount of foot pound torque. This old ford nearly doubled torque to Hp ratio
I would absolutley love to see trucks like this run the ole gauntlet
Nice truck! Came across this video doing research for my 1986 F-250 6.9 diesel, that my grandpa bought new. Just over 50,000 miles on it now. It had the original tires until I replaced them in 2019!
Great video guys! Your truck is really cool, Dave. I love those old non turbo diesel trucks. In my family's ranch we have an 1970 Ranger with a 237 four cylinder Diesel. Unfortunately you guys never got that engine in the US. It runs forever and we get like 25 mpg driving at 60mph.
Identical to my first truck. 86 f250 reg cab, longbed, 6.9 auto, 2wd. Loved that truck! I'm always looking for another one but that's probably never gonna happen.
My truck started out with the same powertrain as shown in the video. Now its turbocharged, has 3.08 gears and E4OD overdrive automatic. Last year I wrapped up an extensive restoration with period correct two-tone colors. Even with all the work over the years, it was nowhere near as pricy as a new truck, and I can fix anything on it myself. Even bone stock they are great trucks that can be used as real trucks (they were only available with a full 8' bed). I drive new trucks for work once in a while and I still prefer mine. Only thing left to do is a 4wd conversion....
I’ve got a 1987 Ford F-250 with a 460 long bed extended cab it’s really clean for an old truck
Love the owner and the truck ! Totally meant for each other
I absolutely fell in love with my 7.3 IDI 1990 F250. Great truck, solid, reliable, torquey! I manage to squeeze out 23 MPG going real easy on it with my 5 Speed ZF-5. I'm sure the C6 is great, but the 5 Speed, man its something else
Im 22 and my daily driver is a 1993 F-250 7.3 V8 diesel idi (non-turbo) but had an aftermarket turbo fitted in 97. I absolutely love my truck.
This is one beautiful old Ford F250 man it looks wayyyyyy better than overpriced, plastic, modern trucks.

I learned how to drive on my parent’s 1984 6.9 Supercab 4x4 and we put 420,000 miles on it over a 15 year period. It was bullet proof. Gale Banks made a great turbo charger for these engines. Great video!
Hell yeah! My dad still drives his 85 f250 lariat explorer diesel. Bought brand new and still drives great 350k later.
I’d take that truck in a heartbeat anyday. Had a ‘83 F350 4spd with a 6.9 and miss it everyday.
I loved my dads old 86 f150 thing was a tank. Thing was abused hauling a 5th wheel and steel parts via a machine shop before he got it and still lived a long life.
We grew up with this truck in Ontario. My dad bought one with very low km's from a company closing its doors.6.9 international Harvestor diesel, automatic, with vinyl seats.5000.00.He drove that ford, oil spayed and treated it good for 21 years. That truck did everything, pulled boats, house trailers and lots of firewood in the box, what a great truck.he sold it t a fellow and the guy wrote it off.I believe these trucks were about 20000.00 brand new,my dad told me.He's gone and the trucks gone,2old buddies.
Awesome truck! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the old diesel trucks review. Keep them coming please.
Used to own a 1983 Ford diesel first year for them . Super reliable and had very good grunt for a nonturbo . It's wouldn't win a race but it would get you there with a trailer in tow .
Nice video! Keep up the great work!
That guy's excitement made my day
Love the old N/A diesels. But the GM 6.2s will always be my favorite. Do a vid on them next! Hell, come on to Michigan and I'll let ya drive mine haha
Wow even has a tach! Never seen one with a tach
the accents in this are gold
i got the same model and it and an aftermarket turbo on it im glad i bought it as a first vehical
I don't see many of those generation Ford fullsize pickups & Broncos out on the roads anymore like I used to back in those days.
Great vid guys!
Cool that it went to someone who appreciates it!
I had a 1986 F250 3/4 ton 4x4 460ci C6 auto dark blue exterior/interior and loved it very much
I got an 87 4x4 6.9 idi with a wastgated sidewinder turbo on it and I love it had an 83 before that was beat to hell and all I can say is the turbo really wakes these engines up
these old fords are great and have a decent ride quality too.
Dave, I hope you can read my comment, because you got a sweet deal on that '86! Those old Ford IDI trucks will shoot up in value as long as they are original and not beat up (and not turbocharged). Brings back memories for me when, in my local school district back in the 1990s, we had the 6.9L IDI diesels in the 1984 International S-1700 Thomas buses backed up to the 5-speed manual and air brakes. 1983 was the first year of the bull nose body styled Ford F-250 and F-350 trucks to have the 6.9L IDI diesels (as well as the International trucks and buses during '83) until 1987 when the Ford trucks were redesigned with a brick nose body style that used the last of the 6.9L engines. The 6.9L and 7.3L IDI engines were the best engines by International, in my opinion. For me, reliability in older diesel engines do not matter as much as performance. I saw the video and am glad you got this all original IDI!
My first car was a Bronco from the same vintage....great truck then and a great truck now!
I've got a 1984 diesel f250 like this and although it's got less curb appeal than this one, I love it. Had it for 15 years now. That 6.9 and 3spd auto are really fun to drive. They sure don't build them with character like this anymore!
I bought one brand new in 1986 ! 6.9 international diesel with a 4 spd transmission. I drove it over 400,000 miles ! Loved that truck ! I replaced the fuel pump once and transfer pump also. 2 clutches and glow plugs and a water pump. Not bad for the miles I put on it.
That is a super nice truck- I would love to have a specimin like this I grew up in an f100 straight 6 from this era
Awesome guys! Thanks
My dad had a 86 5.0 f250 loved that old girl
I had one and put 400,000 miles on it. Loved that truck!!
Absolutely love that truck I have a 1980 f150 ranger with the in-line 6 and it’s a beautiful truck I picked her up for 500$ needed a little work but only exterior stuff that didn’t effect the way she ran. I’ve now painted her black. Replaced a bunch of stuff that didn’t have to be replaced but after almost 40 years should be replaced for reliability. I plan on driving almost 1300 miles in her in a week so I’m super excited it’s going to be a fun ride. As long as she holds up.
Hell yeah. I drive a 1986 F250HD with a 460. Same color and everything but 4x4 and an xlt lariat
This guy definitely loves his truck.
$1500 is a great deal. I paid more for my 84 and this has a cleaner body and interior. These are good solid trucks.
My dad had one like this but an extended cab. He drove it up to Colorado from santa Fe new Mexico with a sucked valve pulling a fifth wheel these things are indestructible
I have an 86, love it
My first truck was an 84 ford f-150. Same interior, great trucks. Nice.
I have a 1988 F-250XLT Lariat with an NA 7.3 IDI and the ZF-5 manual transmission Sterling 10.25 rear end with 4.10 gears Upgraded to an electric injector pump and a beefier alternator, she runs so perfect it's insane. The interior is almost perfect as well!!! Just make sure to run your diesel and anti-cavitation coolant additives religiously and these things will outlive you by a long shot
I have a 85 F250 4x4 diesel. Best truck I have ever owned I will never sell it definitely one of a kind
I have the same truck, it sat since 2014 when it got given to the previous owners grandchild and I found it up for sale and got it for $700 fired up the second day I had it. rebuilt the injectors and re did all the fuel lines, new brake booster, and a set of new batteries and the fluid changes of course.
Dang. Thats impressive. Now thats what you call a classic truck. Can imagine all the girls you could attract driving on of those in the 1980s. Love it! Saw an old old Ford truck here in Jamaica the other day and right out my back, knew it was older than me and I was impressed how it looked and whats its used for.
You clearly made his day, very nice video. Sometimes the cheaper cars are the most interesting.
Loved this model!! This is my favorite Ford body style. My dad had an 85 F150, 2wd short bed with a 300 6. Loved that truck.

I had one of these for a work truck when I was 16, around 1990. It was slow, loud and the brakes were terrible. The one think I did remember very well was the A/C was super cold and I swear it would blow little chips of ice out of the middle vent.
Yeah, Kent "Mr. Truck" would love that truck! Especially the included hat-rack. ;)
