Duck Training One
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
This lesson is using operant conditioning. I am releasing my grip on the duck as she relaxes, and holding her more firmly as she starts to wiggle. It is reinforcing for the ducks for me to let them go, so they relax in, and I release them. This helps them learn how to relax while interacting with me.

I have 20 ducks love them all lol
thanks I have ducks so I will try thie
I'm trying to train my two month duck
I have a baby Mallord she's crazy!
Maybe also give them a treat as soon as you pick them up...? Funny I was looking on here to see if I could train my duckling and what time to be more friendly before he gets older and stronger when he tries to squirm away but watching this I have all these ideas now so thank you very much. I have no idea what I’m doing I’m just pretty good with animals and I thought those ideas might help I’m going to try them. I know they can be trained to come when there’s food and I know they can be trained to Chip when they want you to come feed them ha ha even though he has food in his bin he wants me to come give him mealworms with chopsticks🧐 Now that I think about it I think this duck could teach me a thing or two about training because it seems I am pretty well trained.😯

I have different ducks now and I spend more time with them, that really helps.
Hi, yes, my ducks are cuddly and friendly. I had to put deer netting over the top of their pen, as eagles dove into the pen from the air and kill and eat them. I gave a some away too, and now I only have two, Brittany and Penelope. They don't mind being caught at all, they come and stand on my feet when I feed them. I have friends who hatched their own ducks, and those start out friendlier, but they get wild and need to be conditioned like these.
I have 6 baby ducks and me and my cousin want to train them.We need some help so do you know any videos that has baby duck training thx!😀

Make sure you put have a very secure pen for your ducks, with a wire floor and a wire or plastic netting top to keep out mink, weasles, owls, eagles. A pair of eagles killed and ate my ducks just as they were really starting to learn some tricks! It was sad, because Emerald had just started to really fly and come back, and that was amazing. I'm glad Emerald got to a fly a little bit anyway. If you see any sign of predators, put your ducks into a dog crate at night. Predators are the big problem. I met a woman who has raised a lot of ducks and she told me they rarely live beyond three years due to predators. The Campbell Khaki ducks lay one or two eggs every day. If you only have two ducks, it is pretty easy to crate them in the evenings and that helps keep them safe. They are also safer if they are totally free, and not confined in a pen where they can become "sitting ducks" to a predator attack.

Also, the point of this exercise in the video is to teach the ducks that when they relax, you let them go. They learned to relax really well enough so they would eat out of my hand, and then I got so I could set them in my lap or wherever and they just stayed there to eat. They also had started to fly up on me to get food, and I could hold them, let them walk around to my back, and they would fly off my back and land in their little swimming pool. This exercise looks pretty simple, but it actually was important and an invaluable foundation for any other thing you want to teach your ducks to do. We are getting ready for a sailing journey, so I can't get more ducks now but I really miss my ducks! They were the sweetest animals.
Jenny, looking back (you posted in 2013), is it a good idea for me to do this with my baby ducks so that they like me better? In other words: are your ducks happier with you now , or are they just more nervous that you are going to try to catch them?
I've been meaning to post more video, I will try to do that soon, just to show how their early conditioning continues to influence their behavior.

I used your techniques to train my GF. It really worked! : )
Maybe if you put him in your lap or face him towards you before you put him down he might calm down a little faster
thx it does work
Question: I bought 3 mallard ducklings and one khaki. It's been 8 months now and all of the mallards are female, the khaki is a male. Is there anything wrong with breeding them together or do I have to get a mallard drake? The ducks I raised as well as any offspring they produce are all just pets.

The cross breed no problem you just might not get as many eggs. The Khaki Campbell ducks lay one or two eggs every single day, almost all year round. Mallards don't lay as prolifically!
A very important lesson. But, how it and apply
Could you show/teach us how to train a Muscovy duck? I have one I always pick it up but it seems to always get scared.

Hand feed! I get dried meal worms and hand feed them that. Also lettuce. It helps to spend a lot of time every day just watching the ducks and hand feeding. You can also get floating duck food, and they love that if you toss it into the water. They get friendlier as they get older, but most breeds of ducks don't really love to be picked up.
More duck vids 🥺
I have a few ducks who've never been picked up how do I get them not scared ?
I have 2 ducks, they're kind of wild, sometimes our duck snowy lets us get him and other times he doesn't, his wife on the other hand will hate it if you touch her, I was able to get ahold of her and she just hit me in the face with her wings so many times!!! Ouch!!! Not Fun Guys!!!!
