Ducati Multistrada 1260 S. Take my money!

I was forced to ride the new Multistrada on some of the finest roads and scenery in California. I love sportbikes, more specifically sport touring bikes. So should you go full touring and sacrifice the sport. The new multistrada disagrees! It says it can do anything you want it to but bring a suitcase of money to bring it home.

Nice option selections. I ride an 2014 1200GT with bags and trunk. I would have optioned the Ducati accessory lights because they fit up inside the crash bars and are better protected. Add the bar risers to bring up the bars a few inches. The Sargeant Seat option (through RevZilla) is a less expensive seat than the Corbin and better quality. Change out the foot pegs for the 1200S Adventure Pegs, much wider and better for standing up. also add the adjustable brake pedal and bendable shift lever off the adventure bike for different style foot wear. Definitely add the Ducati radiator guard for those rocks getting kicked up by your front wheel, the Ducati version can come in Black and its not even noticeable, Ducati's front fender is a joke. Add a dual USB charging port on the bars from China, its about $15. I cant say enough about the Sky-hook Suspension, it is simply awesome. As far as a comparison between the BMW R1200GS and the Multistrada 1200S goes the GS is a better adventure bike, hands down, but the Ducati is a better road bike hands down. If you compare the BMW RT to the Multistrada 1200S, the BMW is a better road touring bike than the Multi but the Multi can go down dirt and gravel roads plus a few dry trails on a regular basis. The RT doesn't really like doing that. I don't like the battery size on the Multistrada, its too small and has no extra reserve power. The BMW build quality on both bikes is better as well. As for fun factor, the Ducati has it by the bucket full, you will feel it every time you ride it from the moment you hit the starter and it fires up. Pull in the clutch, accelerate away, shift and turn it into the first turn and it steals away your heart and soul. The BMW just cant compare in that way. Emotion and soul is the Ducati way. Efficiency and practicality is BMWs. My advice to those who are considering one of these bikes is to have one of each, as I do. It eliminates the decision of which is best! Check out the great MotoGeo video on the the Multistrada GT to Mexico City.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Thanks for taking the time to write that Michael. The fun factor between the two bikes is huge. I personally wouldn’t want to take the Ducati into the middle of nowhere. That’s the BMWs job.

The GTs used to come with the trunk and extra large side cases, aux lights, luggage liners, bar risers and tall smoked wind screen. Plus all the “S” Model featuresA totally awesome bike for sure. Those 2013 and 2014 models have the skyhook suspension, ABS and riding modes but not the corning ABS or wheelie control. However they hava two distinct special features none of the new bikes have, not even the V4S. A 59 inch wheelbase and a much faster revving raspier engine. The new DVT engines are slower revving and deliver power in a more sedate manner. That means two things: Better in mountain corners, quicker steering. Superbike engine response, like bang its at 10,000 rpm. The new DVT 1200s and 1260s are better cruisers and highway bikes. Smoother down low but the 1200 DVT engine has a midrange flaw and it looses ground right where you want it to run away. Thats why they built the 1260, to regain that punch lost in the 1200 DVT engine. Your right every year the quality gets better. The new saddlebags are much better design and more rugged.

I have a 2015 MTS/S... I had the slow slide towards the tank also. Not good for the Nads. Not long after purchasing the Multistrada (May 2015), I was searching for a saddle upgrade. Looked at Sargent and Corbin... but were rather pricey. I then came across the Airhawk seat pad. That too, was a tad pricey (200$ CAD) for what it was... an inflatable rubber cushion. Was a tad skeptical to say the least... Meh WTH, I'll try anything once... and So Glad that I did.... With the Airhawk, you can ride for a good 4-5 hours without getting numb-butt... One could always remove the Airhawk and ride on the factory foam for a bit. A change is as good as a rest. The best part about the Airhawk is that it eliminates the 'slide'... no more sore nads... 😀👍

Any old lady in a Prius could out drag you at the lights. Repairs were expensive and the parts made out of cocoa tin. I did an oil change at 5,000 miles. The magnetic plug had metal shards on it, the longest 1/4 inch. Back to the Japanese for me.

I would not plan on a serious dirt bike application. The Ducati seems awe inspiring on the road, and capable on dirt as much, or possibly better than the BMW. But, would I wheelie into a guard rail? With loaded back panniers, a wheelie comes too easily. It's a sexier bike for sure, but it's like a Lamborghini with a camper attached? I couldn't find that article in the contents of this post...

Jonathan Kumar Never. I’ll never own another inline 4, UNLESS I happen to get a crossplane R1 track bike.

The XR is phenomenal. I road the XR through Europe/Alps with a friend on the Multi. Both are great bikes. I liked the XR, but it's a matter of taste. I also prefer the quality and ownership experience of BMW. I am looking forward to the 2020 XR. It will get the new RR updates, including the shift-cam for both more torque and power, along with other modern features such as the TFT console.

Here one for you, yamaha tracer. I know it's a 900cc, but maintenance and general usability seem to be effortless
