    Another great video! Thanks! Holds its line nicely and I like the way you hang back a bit behind slow moving “cages”. Recently acquired a 20 year old Monster 1000S, not in the same league I know, but gives a good alternative to my 650 Interceptor! Only problem is as a not so supple 63 yr old the one thing that scares me is lifting my feet OFF the foot pegs when stopping!!! It also has Viper cans with no baffles - makes feel 20 again - until I have to stop lol!!!!

    Just got my SP a few days ago; it definitely is surprisingly quick. I noticed immediately it's more nimble than the 821 I traded for it, but I'll agree that none of the numbers seem to support the sensation. While it is considerably lighter (40lbs wet), it's only negligibly more powerful; +2 HP, +9 FtLbs. Considering this I expected it would have a lower gear ratio. Quite the opposite, though. While the transmission and final drive is *identical* to the 821, the SP has a SMALLER rear sprocket. This imparts LESS torque on the rear wheel. I guess saving weight has a bigger impact to performance than expected...

    @@DesertDuc I suspect that the 937 engine probably has a good 10 hp (crank) more than the 821. A lot of 821s barely put out 90 hp at the wheel, so I suspect that Ducati might have been a bit “optimistic” with the claimed power output.

  • @DesertDuc

    This bike is real nice. I could hear the harsh shifts when RPMs were in the lower range. I kinda expected the engine to sound a little smoother but it sort of sounds like a motor running low on oil. It would definitely benefit from an exhaust system and a tune. At the very least a good slip-on the bring out the throaty notes it should be making. All-in-all, what a fun spirited ride that seemed to be. ✌️

    Dang that was quick! Loving those 1st gear gurgles. A few questions: How do you deal with the cold? Those test rides without heated grips must suck. This or street triple rs? We all wanna know! What's the better daily rider, weekend bike, and track bike?

  • @Schaaf

    @Schaaf

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks Jello!! I'm wearing several layers which works rather well. Good winter gloves - which I currently don't have - also help but to some degree the cold hands unfortunately are part of the experience. But fortunately when riding while working there's enough breaks without any riding which always gives you a chance to warm up your hands. I'd need a direct comparison opportunity to make a decent verdict. Considering daily rides though I'd prefer the Triumph because it works smoother in the low revs.

Bought used 2018 821 monster last year, i like its agricultural character, its much more relaxed, slower, but i feel like a boss when im riding it. Cant say the same for new one 😆 but brilliant motorcycle really 👍 but go stupid fast in that midle weight class- z900. Horrible seat thought, thats why i sold it. Completely agree with you on the optimum power level. I have a Tuono V4 and a Street triple 675R. I find the Triumph to be more fun because is more nimble, lighter and much less powerful. I can use all the engine on the street while the Tuono always feel too powerful almost everywhere. Can you compare the character of this Monster engine with the parallel twins that are becoming the norm? Asking this because I want a twin to join my V4 and inline 3 but all the parallel twins engines that I try leave me cold. The Superduke1290 while great is (like the Tuono V4) too much for the road. This Monster SP looks like a candidate for the twin engine vacancy

    servus schaaf i watched a lot of your videos here and it is really good fun 👍 there is one question that concerns me: did you never ever meet deer crossing the road in front of you, i mean close in front of you? to me this happened now and then - i live in the austrian alps - and i was used to it, nothing to worry about. but two years ago i had a crash with a big stag and since then i have got three nice and sexy screws in my upper thigh ... 😳 ... shit happens ... i still love motorbike riding and practise it as often as possible, but driving through the woods left me nervous ...

  • @Schaaf

    @Schaaf

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes, I had a few close calls, once I even hit a small deer but not a full hit, just a brush basically since it almost completely cleared the bike before I touched it with my wheel. I ride slower at dusk and dawn and at night, when animals are more active. But yes, there's still some risk left. Which I'm fine with though. My chances of survival would only be marginally higher when hitting a deer at speed limit compared to hitting it with speeds above the limit. And if I'd want to ride in a way that's completely safe I think I couldn't exceed something like 40 kph. Crossing animals unfortunately is one of the ugliest parts of riding motorcycles :(

    Bei den Komponenten könnte das definitiv sein. Da fragt man sich schon, was den Streetfighter so viel teurer macht. Ich fand die Maschine zwar ziemlich gut, aber zum Beispiel lenkte das Testbike nicht homogen ein… Zudem finde ich persönlich den 939 wesentlich besser als 959 für die Landstraße. Alleine weil der Sound beim 939er besser ist. Der 939er in dem kleinen Streetfighter wäre mein Traum…

    Wenn ich mehr als eine kleine Pfütze auf der Straße sehe verwandelt sich mein Berserker-Fahrstil sofort in das was selbst meine Oma als zu langsam bezeichnen würde. Ach ja, ich kann mir irgendwie eine Monster nicht ohne den 1200ccm V2 vorstellen, den bin ich schon oft gefahren und fand den immer das perfekte Aggregat für so ein Fahrzeug. Auch wenn sich die 111PS auf der Straße sicher als völlig ausreichend anfühlen mir würde der gewaltige Punch der alten 1200er fehlen.

    Die Sache ist halt, dass die neue wesentlich leichter ist und deshalb nicht erheblich langsamer beschleunigt. Mir fehlt bei den neuen Modellen aber irgendwie das Ducati Feeling, was man noch auf einer Hypermotard 939 und sogar der Monster 797 hatte…

    @@DJAceBlack Das meine ich halt, dreh mal bei einer 1200S den Hahn auf, da wird einem ganz anders. Das ist ein Motorrad welches einem in alle Sinne fährt. Im positiven wie auch im negativen. Ich fand die 1200S immer angsteinflößend obwohl ich ein deutlich leistungsstärkeres Motorrad fahre. Ich glaube diese hier könnte mir nicht so ins Herz fahren. Man merkt einfach den VW in Ducati, auch wenn das Design immer noch ikonisch ist alles andere aber ist irgendwie ein Golf geworden es fehlt die Emmotione… Bei einer Multistrada würde ich das wollen, bei einer Monster will ich auch ein Monster also eins was dem Namen alle Ehre macht.

    Hello Jello!! I have no idea where your comment went! Weird, I even remember replying to it! Anyway :D I think the Monster is better when things get fast. Its suspension is superior and therefore makes it easier to ride very precise. But in all other aspects the Triumph is better.
