    Excellent review, what I needed to hear. I am thinking about taking one on for a test ride. I'm excited to hear about how well the engine is an improvement over previous generations, so that makes up for the wild polarizing new styling opposed to their older generation styling.

    I just bought an SP, and I realized that this Monster has to be ridden Hard, it doesn't like to be ridden easy or else it bogs and bucks until the revs go up. However, as far a lightness, and power to weight, this Bike is a Blast, and the SP comes with the Rosso 4s, and stick very well, I;m Happy so far !!

  • @ridexdrive

    @ridexdrive

    Жыл бұрын

    Hey, thanks! I thought the clutch pull was good for city riding. I have extra long fingers though lol. It had reassuring engagement, and I found it easy to hop on and ride without thinking about it. I road an S1000RR recently, and I stalled it a couple of times during parking lot riding. The monster had none of those problems. Engine heat was good for a Ducati. Considering this was an extra hot day, it was decent, but there was more heat than you get from other bikes in this segment. I hope this helps you decide, and always try to get a test ride if you can!

    I have this model it goes and handles very well, lots of high speed fun, however on a 16c winters day driving through traffic the engine temp gets up to 96c the heat off the engine when the tiny little thermo fan kicks in is stifling when just sitting stationary. normal temp when riding sits on 75-80c In summer we have 35-40c for weeks on end I am fairly sure that the engine will have a melt down in that kind of ambient temperature. So I will be selling my Monster before that happens.

    A year into my ownership and 7000 miles later, I'm still loving it. And as far as the trellis frame thing that has everyone losing their shit over, meh. A steel trellis frame on a motorcycle is utilitarian looking at best. Having recently rode a 2018 Monster 821, I can tell you, it really doesn't hold a candle to the newest generation in terms of overall performance. Sorry you traditionalist "Ducatistis", but once you ride an older gen back to back with the newest gen, you'll get it.

  • @ridexdrive

    Nope! The most meaningful upgrades are the adjustable suspension and higher spec brakes. Unless you plan to do a ton of track days it’s not a big deal. Even still, the standard setup is fairly good for the occasional track day. Everything else you can easily do to the standard bike, the Termi exhaust and Pirelli tires.

But if you can afford it and are able to change your order, go for it! But if not, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with the standard bike and nothing you can’t do with it over the SP that’s going to make a world of difference as a new rider/first bike.

  • @ToastToGo

    @ToastToGo

    You'll only "need" the SP if you're serious about cornering performance and possibly track time. Otherwise, it's not needed. BUT... down the road, you can always swap in upgraded suspension into your Monster once you've outgrown the limits or performance of the stock suspension. Just keep the stock suspension so you can swap it back in when it's time to sel the bike in the future, if that time may come.
