I live in Mauritius, a small tropical island next to Madagascar. We tend to have flash floods, sometimes 300mm within 24hrs. Yet we never faced situations as bad as images are showing in Dubai.

Free water!!! I've been in Dubai when it rained heavy. We had to abandon the site of the project where we were, but people grouped together gave lifts to people to get back to their apartments. I worked from home for a few days, then the sun came back and it was all a distant memory. I guess that's the plus, when the sun returns, the rain only stays around for a day or two, but it kinda looks bad this time.

We had something similar in my country in September.. it raind the same amount of an annual flood ( 800mm) in 4 four days.. Needless to say, whole regions were flooded and some are still in terrible condition. People in Dubai we feel you, I hope this gets resolved

This weather is quite natural in some parts of India (my home) as it has appropriate drainage system to battle it away. However, this is unlikely in Dubai with improper drainage systems (where I've visited many a times) also not acceptable in England (where I stayed for the last 10 years).

If you do cloud seeding in a dessert. You would think to have better drainage installed in newer areas. Cloud seeding plus climate change. The amount of rain naturally has increased in Middle East past few years. Anywhoo. I’m sure Dubai would learn from This. They always do and they plan better ahead. It takes a few years but all good.

In the American midwest this is once every few days in spring and early summer.

As gutting as it is for everyone they’re when flooding happens ? Does anyone know why? Pipes are leaking? Why water is coming in through windows ? Why roads are collapsing ? Surely that’s just terrible workmanship ?
