@@TheMrgoodmanners Nice try. lemme guess? The Portuguese descend from Yakub and are devils? Listen, pssst, get closer: We're the only people who will say "preto" in the same sentence as "I love you", wrap your head around that. You don't understand pride, nor do you really know Portuguese or Angolan history. If you did you would know that different ethnicities had their own voice, be it in Angola or Mozambique, it wouldn't be until their inependece that Mozambique would have ethnic conflicts due to CIA and KGB influence btw. Portugal never had colonies, only transcontinental Portuguese people of all creeds and races in their ultramaritime territories who are *our brothers,* all of whom we welcomed in Portugal when we started the process of separating our diplomacy from theirs, and granted their states full independence. If you're gonna talk about slavery then you should know that the Ottomans and Barbary coast Muslims raided the European coast before we ever set sail from Lisbon. We invented nothing but were one of the first Nations in history to ban slavery in our lands. Also, it were Africans who raided their neighbors, except instead of selling their slaves through Mali to the Arabs, they started selling them to the Portuguese.

One of the greatest battles the world may never know, Duarte is one of those really underrated commanders that was unfortunate enough to get overshadowed by people like Khalid Ibn al-Walid, Mehmed the Conqueror, Subutai etc. The Raja is nothing if not persistent, I mean if nothing else you've gotta really admire his guts and tenacity, even after suffering so many previous defeats.

@@Orionte9against a technologically superior enemy? I don’t think so . The Portuguese atrocities were well known to the Raja and the people of the Malabar from the stories told to them by the Arab and Persian traders . Our families were some of the ruling vassals of the Raja north of Calicut . The Portuguese disruption of the Indian Ocean trade was so severe that Calicut never fully regained its previous glory of a thousand years . In Kerala today Kochi has taken up prominence as the more prosperous port and shipping hub. This was the beginning of the end of an era and ignited events that led to complete weakness and eventual British colonisation and Communist revolution leading to modern day Kerala .

@@Orionte9Cannons and Ships as well . They had the best ships at the time and their gunnery skills were far superior. If the Dutch hadn’t come to outmanoeuvre them then Kerala would have still been largely Portuguese like Goa . Largely , Portuguese downfall was their inability to understand the local culture of Kerala which had pre-existing Christian communities who did want their churches being latinised , that and constantly aggravating the Muslim traders as well greatly turned the locals against them . This why the Dutch and the British were more successful in Kerala after them , because they only wanted to make money .
One quick correction: The sword Duarte is animated with, the rapier, was not yet standardized nor invented for yet another 50 years. I am very happy you chose to tell the story of Duarte Pacheco Pereira, very rarely he is ever mentioned, which is bizarre. Thank you!
