Dual Spirits would DESTROY Elestrals, No Exaggeration

Ойындар

This idea keeps coming up about how cool Hybrids spirits would be, and Yes Dual or hybrid spirits would be cool. They would however Fundamentally break the game at its core.

From my experience, one of the biggest reasons games like Mtg and Pokemon can have dual color/element resource cards is because they are a part of the main deck, meaning you don’t have access to all of them at every point of the game. Even Pokemon generally keeps energy search cards limited to basic energy only

1000% That's part of the fundamental difference between other TCGs resources. I did originally talk briefly on that but i cut it out, felt too rambly about other games and not Elestrals.... but 1000% this

You can design these kinds of spirit cards to be invoke Runes that act like dual-spirit cards. They cost 0 spirits to play but they could have wording that makes them function like a spirit card and allow you to expend them from your hand just like a spirit from the spirit deck. This makes it so that it takes up valuable main deck space, forces you to possibly get hit by hand removal cards like Sparkkitt and Golden Apple, and is restricted to 3 per deck. There could also be a clause on these cards that makes it so you can only have 3 dual-spirit cards in your main deck to further limit them more. They basically can function like Special Energy in Pokemon TCG in that regards. On top of that if they're invoke Runes that act as Spirit cards which you need to draw into, then they can become bricks during moments of gameplay where you need a different card, such as Earthquake or a defensive counter rune. It's not impossible to balance these cards to work in the game but right now there isn't very many dual-spirit cards in the game even worth playing. You have Flammamoth, Emperowatt, and Kyroscorch from Frostfall and all the ones from Base Set 1 are bad right now. Even the ones in Frostfall aren't necessarily that great since they have glaring issues with them. These are your best options and they fundamentally have issues right now in being consistent decks. The problem with trying to introduce the concept of dual-spirit cards into this game right now is the card pool is so limited. The conversation behind it is fundamentally too soon because of the core design of the game. It isn't balanced enough even with single spirits right now nor do we have the flexibility of a large card pool to provide players with ample deck building options that give the diversity you're looking for. This is mainly because of how your spirit cards are separate from your main deck. You don't draw spirits. You have access to all of them from the beginning and draw into cards that you can play that spend those spirits. It's different if you have to draw into your special spirit cards or a rune that acts like a spirit card. It could even just be a new type of rune card that gets introduced. Elestrals as a game fundamentally doesn't have enough balance as a game. When you have most decks automatically throwing in nearly max copies of 3 or 4 counter runes that every other deck is running and the entire game lacks hard removal for Elestrals and Runes, we have a major issue. Take Thunderstorm for example. It's bad. Thunder decks don't even use it. There's something like 5 or 6 competitive decks before Frostfall and maybe 1 or 2 more new ones with Frostfall and NONE of them use Thunderstorm. You're better off splashing Peagust with 2 wind spirit for cheap 1 time backrow removal or Gorgon bait. Thunderstorm is just a single example of bad card design. It isn't Mystical Space Typhoon from YGO. It's just simply a bad card for a 2 cost backrow removal when there are cheaper cards that can get the job done and facilitate your deck's strategy better. The game needs better card design with removal in general and I suspect we'll get that with future sets starting with Set 3. Another thing that I think would be a great idea is if dual-spirit cards actually functioned as cards you draw into that allow you to turbo out 2 and 3 drop elestrals better. It could act as a single spirit enchantment requirement for 2 or 3 of the enchantments needed for something like Emperowatt or Zephrog or Hiboofin, etc. to make them more playable but not function as a bridge to bring out 2 or 3 drop single spirit type elestrals, like Lavalith or Sonicore. I don't innately think the idea behind dual-spirits is bad for the game's health. It's something that would require a lot of testing to work out the issues. I would be extremely surprised if aDrive and his team haven't considered the idea of using dual-spirit cards in some capacity in the future even if it only works with dual-spirit elestrals. I just think there's too many ways to make the concept work while still maintaining healthy deck construction choices, gameplay, and competitive scene.

You should make a video where you pick the the best elestral in each element for frost fall.

I wonder if they were limited to 2 a spirit deck they could be workable? But yes no matter how you play it they are super strong.

A fun way to accomplish a new spirit, could be incorporating a "double" neutral spirit similarly to Pokemon's double normal energy cards. They'd be strong, but the caveat is they can only be played for the cost of neutral cards like the various runes we have. A gemini themed spirit would be killer for something like this.

Ehhh when GG , SHeild PTA etc are some of the strongest cards i think that rapidly breaks down. just makes all the neutral cards even stronger than they already are...by alot....

Dual element spirits sounds so weird to me honestly. I think there could be a dual spirit divine rune though

I think part of it is people see other games like mtg pkmn etc with dual type resources, and go ok now in elestrals. its like once a week someone mentions it and they know not what they say lol. It would be cool to see them, but man mechanically i just can not get behind it.

I would restrict it to say "when you enchant this, discard a spirit", you effectively have fewer spirits while not requireing that much overhead. The dual spirit discarding the extra takes up 2 slot, which you could use to have both sides of that spirit, but that would allow you to splash at the cost of some life.

Yeah I thought about that idea as well. But if you get to a wierd point in game where you only have those spirits left in your spirit deck you kinda have the opposite. I have spirits I can't use kinda thing. Obviously less relevant but wierd

I think if it came down to it though I’d rather have dual element spirits over spirits that give stat buffs or effects to elestrals enchanted with them

I think stat buffs are way more workable and not inherent to breaking the game 🤔. I don't think I want to see either but stat buffs vs breaking the fundamentals of elestrals and making spirit decks a core mechanic. Multi element spirits should just not happen ever....or be purposely horrible

Dual spirits=bad idea And the preface is that it's a bad idea in the game of Elestrals because, you have access to your entire spirit deck at all times. Unlike in other games where your resource is part of your main deck
