The thing about base set and even frost fall is there isn't enough rune control. Peagust just isn't it, and thunderstorm cost 2 thunder and a MAYBE reward. Tsunami is just to good, people talk about gorgon but for real tsunami cost only 1 and stop basically everything, should have cost 2 or have more drawback (The fact that you can just turn your own elestrals on your phase is mind boggling for me. And obviously thunder buff. Killed the meta. If your opponent start with sparkit and Zeus you just lose. I also can talk about some card that never see play or just are garbage, but that isn't the point. When trying to be creative there is just card you cannot put in your deck, they are so underwhelming, cost to much for their effect or wont have any effect at all. If I had to change something about this set, it would have been this: - Kindleo and Exaltair didn't need their nerf, they were fine, people needed to play more around it. - Sparkit was over buffed, yes it needed a buff but that just too much. - Astrabit was fine as a 4 def but at 5 was to dominating - Tsunami needed a nerf. - Gorgon needed clarification early on. - More power on 2/3 cost. They are so inconsistent and even out they can be removed so easilly. A lot of people might just disagree and they might be right. Who knows I stopped playing after 3 tournament because I didn't like the meta, and after seeing the new card I strongly doubt it will change. Hope I am wrong and that set 2 brings some new meta deck.

GG was run in the side because it had less utility than it does now. Back then you'd only wanna play it in 50% of matchups, not 100% so running it in the main could often lead to having a Shield that doesn't bounce, a PTA that doesn't pop, a more expensive worse Tsunami, it just wasn't THE CARD but it definitely was a GREAT card. Being hyper effective against 50% of the meta is why a lot of cards are side decked in other CCGs (or main decked in some cases). There was also no super strong lethal follow up plays a player could do like there is now (now referring to Base Set format). Now we have to worry about Vysc, Elechik search Zeus, Sparkitt, Rabbit, Rummagem, Hydrake trades, and Peagust nexus boards. Sure before then it couldn't stop on cast triggers (depending on how Dan felt that particular day since a lot of early rulings contradicted one another) but there was also a lack of major on board threatening effects short of ascensions.

I love this discussion bro. I really liked your point on having more runes with specific elements. If thunderstorm or tornado was an any cost it, they would be a 3 of in any deck

I hope the video you make about the very beginning includes our very first game we did on table top sim :P I was randomly up at 2-3AM and you asked if anyone could test and we just tried it lol.

Also I know I'm newer and haven't been around long, but Base set was a fun time all in all. It was especially fun when accidentally running into strategies that were buried in the archives from way back and bringing them "back" for newer eyes to see. So much fun and diversity in Base Set and so much more to come! Can't wait!
