Dua Lipa and Douglas Stuart, live at Hay Festival - Dua Lipa: At Your Service Podcast

A very special bonus episode of Dua Lipa: At Your Service has just landed! Tune in to hear @dualipa’s fascinating chat with Douglas Stuart, author of Service95 Book Club’s first Book of the Month - Shuggie Bain, which was recorded in front of a live audience at the Hay Festival earlier this month.
It is an in-depth chat about the book, covering everything from character backstories to issues around addiction, and the insights Douglas discovered about his own family during his writing process.

An enormously talented woman is Dua Lipa. She fills our lives with her gifts in the arts: singing, song writing, literature, dancing. One day she might even write a book. Interviewing these authors reveals a different side of her many talents. She is genuinely passionate about the author and their books.

I just finished reading his second novel, "Young Mungo" which has left a deep impact on me. As a gay guy who grew up in the 1980's I could deeply relate to the tortured soul of the protagonist and the trauma being gay in a culture that hates you has on your sanity. Nice interview. I highly recommend his books to anyone who has ever felt marginalized, has loved someone who's "different", or has had to cope with addiction.

11:00 This part where he talks about Agnes Bain based on his own mother is very sad

So happy to find this, must check out Dua Lipa’s work now. Mr. Stuart has created a classic work, Shuggie Bain, and all should read it.

Sometimes it was also dangerous to wear eyeglasses, especially in combination with books and long hairs 😮
