Du-Bro 101 - How To Install Hinges on RC airplanes
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
This video shows the proper way to install DU-BRO nylon hinges and Electric Flyer Hinge Tape on the control surfaces of an RC airplane model.
Some key information about the DU-BRO hinge slotter:
1. There are two styles you can order: No handles = Cat. No. 216 and With handles: Cat. No. 660
2. Small parts from the kit can be easily stored in an old servo box.
3. The center piece of the parallelogram tool is interchangeable for different slot widths and the hole center tool
4. The hole center tool can be used to make holes for aileron torque rods as well as holes for CA application
5. Fork tools are inserted using a rocking motion until the slot is created.
6. For harder woods, mark the edges of the slot to be made and drill holes. The hook tool is then used to make the slot.
7. Be mindful of your fingers as injuries can happen with these fairly sharp instruments.
8. Store everything clean so they are ready to use again in the future.

I’m pretty good at beating up my Timber X. I’ve had a few tabs pull out. Do you think the tape is strong enough to replace the hinges or tabs?
Thanks for providing this great guide. I’m curious, what is the brand of Teflon oil you are using? The dispenser looks pretty handy for this application.

Is the tape paintable? I ask because I have the Hobby Zone Carbon Cub S2, and there is tape used to cover the channel/slot on the wings that the servo wires feed through, and also the servos. I was wondering if this is what they use. Thanks!

Hey Bruce, I just ran a paint test for you. I used enamel, krylon fusion, and acrylic paints. All of them work fine but I will note that any paint was rather easily flaking off with the rub of my fingernail. I then tried a bit of steel wool to rough up the surface and helped but could still be rubbed off. I suspect that a clear coat would help seal the paint on after applied. I would expect any latex paint to perform as well as the acrylic. I hope this helps!!!

@@JoshuaOrchard Thanks so much for doing this, I appreciate you taking the time. I think I'll follow your advice and try a clear coat over the base color. Thanks again!
Very helpful thanks. Next time, move the clock out of the room you are recording in.

Noted!
I did find that, if you do happen to glue your hinge, if you use a drop of nitro fuel, it will allow the hinge to move again

Great tip! Thanks for sharing
That is for ailerons but what about flaps? Is there another video on how to put hinges on flaps? I suppose the procedure is different.

The approach is essentially the same. The hinge point is really the only difference. Hinges for main control surfaces are centered whereas flaps will have the hinge point closer to the top of the wing surface, making it off-center compared to your normal control surfaces. You'll want to check the plans of your model to be more precise. Remember to install your hinges and test the movement prior to applying the glue.

Thanks for the tip!
I wonder why Du-bro just didn't install a pin that is permanent , we really don't need to remove the pin
Couldn't see a damn thing cause the camera is 23 feet away . Really ? C'mon now fellas

We apologize. Sometimes we have to adjust and forget too. We will work at getting better shots so you can see all the fine details
