DSR+ review

Спорт

Hey folks! We've been waiting for this one...it's the Dye DSR!
Let's take a look at what's different, how it shoots, and in general what my impression is of this bad boy. Spoiler alert: I like it, a lot.

Great review! You've quickly become my favorite paintball channel - I really appreciate your presentation style, practical approach and honest assessments. This video helped me decide to buy a DSR+ to replace my 160r, and I am so glad I did. The DSR+ ergos are lightyears better. Plus, I was able to snag a practically new DSR+ from Matrix Gear at a great price. They processed and shipped the order super fast, and their Used Gun testing and warranty gave me confidence in the transaction. You chose a great sponsor! Thanks for all your work.

I'm glad someone gave Dye a fair review for a change, people like to hate on Dye because they are the best and they own a Planet Eclipse, neanderthal gun. Buy Dye if you want the best BUT make sure you know how to take care of them. Planet Eclipse gun owners like to have a gun that they never take care of and when it breaks they buy another one. You only need one Dye unlike Planet Eclipse where you need to buy at least 3 of them to get by...

Just got one a couple days ago. Putting it through the gauntlet of old paint (1 year to 10 year old) it has proved itself flawless. Solid review, I do agree on your thoughts on the grip, I feel like the G6R is a perfect example of a grip done right. It was slim, but tacky and still used screws. They were funky round screws though which while I liked them, the few times I had lost them I had to go with having to split whatever remainder of screws I had left to both sides. So at the time when I was sponsored by BL and ordered my team marker I had ordered a bag of 10 screws just to have them handy. I think if dye used those style screws to minimize any profile to the grip they would be perfect. Maybe the only other thing I'd kind of agree with is the feedneck, I instantly put the exalt thumbwheel on mine as I had ordered one for my Freeflow reflex at the same time. So I havnt used the stock feedneck screw but even with the wheel I still find myself having to adjust several times to get my hoppers just right. I loved bob longs feednecks and just using the feedneck lever to turn the cam to adjust the tension. DSR+ is my first NEW marker Ive bought with the exception of my reflex since the CSR. I loved the M2 I had which I bought used prior to the CSR. Out of all the hundreds of markers I've owned, my 2011 G6R is the only marker I've kept bc its been perfect in every way. The DSR+ Is on par with the G6r IMO, so this will most likely be my spoolie of choice and become my main shooter so I can finally retire the ol' G6r.

I agree with almost everything you said in the review. Overall, it's a great marker and well made. As someone coming back after a 12 year hiatus, it's the first gun that gave me a 'woah' moment the first time I fired it. That said, the grips and the trigger were the two sticking points I had. If they went to the trouble of hiding one screw to secure the grip, why not just add another one at the bottom of the frame and forego the whole clip system? I already have the tools out. As far as the trigger goes, for whatever reason the ergos of it just didn't work with my hands. I had to swap it out with one of the JC Scythe triggers which made it significantly better for me. That said, it's still probably my favorite speedball gun at this point.

It's my current workhorse for playing speedball. The ergos and balance help with run & gun as well as one handed reloads. Soft shot and low sound signature with the SFR all the way down. Trigger is really good as it can be adjusted to be featherlight, with the top of the trigger being a little stiffer due to the weight distribution and distance from pivot point. I'm still testing out if it's as soft on paint as a Field One Force. Efficiency is ok. Not my favorite ASA, but it works. The feednecks needs an adjustment thumb screw.

Shot _character_ has nothing to do with performance or "quality;" it's all opinion. The regular AMP has exactly the same shot character as the HK AMP, as it is exactly the same internally. As I mentioned in the video, the DSR+ has the softest shot in paintball when you turn the SFR down all the way. If you like that, then that's the best shot character. The AMP has essentially the same shot character as a CS2, because the core is a direct rip-off of the Gamma Pro core, so necessarily, they shoot pretty much the same (except for the poor paint handing of the AMP).

  • @airtimepaintball463

    @airtimepaintball463

    2 жыл бұрын

The original Ultra Silk lube is petroleum-based, and as such is not recommended by any paintball OEM. Personally I wouldn't use it on anything, ever. Regardless of what marker we're talking about, Dow 33 light is the best lube. In fact, almost every OEM lube is just Dow 33 rebranded. The exception would be a marker that required oil and not grease. In that case, use a silicone-based paintball lube. There is absolutely nothing at all to be gained by attempts to re-invent the wheel when it comes to lube. Use Dow 33 light.

Dye and Macdev. Put freaking feedneck thumb wheels on your “mid-tier” DSR/XDR markers. Taking away an item people value at $20 and removing it from a $1k product to save (maybe) $2 is a poor value decision. Why go through all the effort to have tool less access to areas you interact with far less (core, grips, battery) while leaving a freaking screw on the feedneck you clamp down every time you use the marker. PE has this down pat in their lineup. Equally silly is Dye/Macdev not making an upgrade kit readily available, allowing it to go to third party sales (Exalt, Inception, HK). It’s like they don’t like money.

Completely Shocked by this review! I had a very different experience. I owned one for 3 weeks and traded it. Things that Got to me about this marker: The Feedneck is the worst in its class by far, you can look at some other reviews like a store where they compare it to a 170R and say the 170R is better. This Feedneck is first a mid rise, it should be a low rise, its too big and fits the loaders too big so you have to really clamp down on the loaders, on my Bnkerkings loader I had to clamp so hard that pulling the clamp back took enough force to hurt. It doesnt have an adjustment knob, or a little bump to hold the lever in place, the Lever action is gritty and not smooth, and there is no internal knurling to give it extra bit (not needed but still nice). The Asa is the worst in its class as well, I prefer the lever, slaps, and the Popps way more. I unfortunately got the first run of DSR+ and my ASA leaked it was a known issue in the PBnation forums. Its not super easy on paint, I broke 5 balls in my first case (this is also something people on the DSR Forums and PBnations talk about). Dye also needs to get with the times on the barrels, everyone wants inserts or cheaper backs. Every high end gun and every person uses inserts or cheaper backs (including Airtime paintball). Its dumb that I either have to get another barrel system, buy more 50-200 dollar dye barrel backs, or have my barrel bored out. If I was a guy that only had this one marker and I have to bore my barrel to accept freak inserts I wouldnt be playing for 2 weeks as I am waiting on shipping, and adding an additional cost that only gives a benefit when I spend even more money on inserts. I am also not a fan of the eye the pipe. Other than that the efficiency is average, the looks are decent nothing crazy, and the quality of the manufacturing is good but not exceptional (there is something extra with M3+, CS2, XTS). The good with this gun is that the trigger is the best on a stock gun probably of all guns in production. The Ergos are nice and the shot characteristic is soft and adjustable (I prefer the TM40, CS2, and XTS shot so I dont fall into the smoothest shot category). Those are my honest thoughts.

As I mentioned, I like the feed neck. I like the 170R feed neck too, and having a knob is nice. The lever geometry on the DSR+ feed neck is the best of any marker in paintball, ever. There is nothing at all wrong with the ASA. So it's a lever? Who cares? I've got roughly 10 cases through them, haven't broken a ball yet including playing in 40f temps. The only mid level gun that does better for a barrel is the AMP. The eye pipe works great, and always has; it's a preference thing. I appreciate the feedback and thanks for watching!

This isn’t ment to be rude. I am asking this question because there is probably something I don’t know. What about the lever makes it the best? I normally like dye guns the nt11 was my favorite for a long time. I just don’t know what about the feedneck lever is so good?

  • @airtimepaintball463

@@orleansgac4088 I explained in detail in the video what makes the lever good...and you aren't being rude at all! I appreciate that you're here in the first place :) The lever has a more aggressive cam profile on it, meaning that the difference between open and closed is larger. This makes it easy to get your hopper on and off, and easy to make it tight enough, without messing with the tension adjustment. I have some markers that the difference there is so small that it realistically isn't possible to get the hopper in there without loosening the tension first, because if you start with it that loose, the 'closed' position isn't tight enough.

People say this on and off but I don’t get why it matters one way or the other. 9v or 2x AA, what’s it matter? Genuine question.

@@BR-zt9no hoppers use AA now so then everything would just run on the same type. Less stuff to have to keep in your bag. Then if you wanted to be real uptight about it AAs are cheaper.
