I am a current R2750DB owner and had been curious about R2850DB before purchasing my present system, but they were not available yet here in Mexico, so I went for the R2750DB and have been very happy with it since. Now, the moment of truth has come, and I listened to the comparison (on well-EQ'd Philips SHP9500 headphones). And my verdict is... yes, there is a difference in favor of R2850DB, but it is so slight that it wouldn't be worth upgrading for me, especially not with the 40% premium being charged for the newer model. Even if I were to make the purchase again, I'd probably still choose the R2750DB, just for the lower price. Pricing being equal, however, I'd certainly go for the R2850DB. Now, as for the KIND of difference I'm hearing, R2850DB's boost in the 40-50Hz and the 10KHz+ ranges makes them sound fuller and more balanced, with a slightly wider soundstage. By comparison, the R2750DB sound more forward on the mids, which overall gives them just a tad more of a tinny or hollow feel, albeit with a higher perceived loudness. That said, it's a really small difference. With some meticulous EQing, I believe I could get my R2750DB to sound pretty much the same as their successors, but as it is, I probably wouldn't even bother, as the sound I'm getting from them now is already perfectly fine. Oh, by the way, the R2850DB's seem to be significantly bigger physically. That may be better for the sound, but taking into account my use case -- I have my 2750's sitting on my desk, as near-field monitors, -- any bigger, and I wouldn't be able to fit them in, the size difference pretty much seals the deal for me with the R2750DB. In fact, as near-field monitors, they are doing a SUPERB job! If, on the other hand, I were trying to fill a medium-sized living room with good sound, the R2850DB would have the edge.

I added an Active Sub for my 2750.. It's sounds awesome. Not a worthy upgrade to 2850, for a little wider sound stage.

Overkill for connecting to PC as Computer speakers?

Hi, you've tested so many speakers, could you recommend me something sounding exactly/very similar like Edifier R2850DB, but just... smaller? I don't have a lot of space and won't be doing parties with music blasting on full so I'm not sure if I should be investing in such big and powerful speakers. I will mostly use them while sitting next to them on my PC and sometimes lying down on my bed listening to music in a 2.5x4.40 room. I also want something that cam play midly loud but also sound good at very low volume, I heard that some bigger speakers have problem with low volume no?

How do these compare to Audio Engine's A5+/HD6? Also what's the best subwoofer to pair with the R2850? Thanks

Nice Comparison, Thx. :) I Like the 2850 a little better, sound a little fuller. Still the 2750 are also quite nice, difference is rather small between them.

@@tonykernighan9175 Yeah, but they are big, you need space for them, but they are awesome. (2850's Measuring in at (WxHxD) 258x451x316mm and weighing in at 11.5Kilos EACH) Well they are rather affordable, because Edifier is a chinese company or atleast they produce em in China. And those are a rather cheap build, mass produced hardware, material and buildwise, not so elaborate, like their S350/360DB or S1/2/3000Pro, so there also got some corners cut compared to the higher quality builds. But with that you get a great bang for the buck and that is, apart from the sound obviously, the most important thing.

I have the R2750DB and they are great.

Hi guys. Is it true that if i connect a sub (ex: the T5) to 2850, the bass on them dissapears and it is only reproduced bu the sub? I understand that on the 2750 this does not happens. I had the 2750 and i really liked the but had no chance back then to test them with a sub. I returned the because I was not able to control the volume only through the tv,s remote. But now i am vonsidering to repurchase them with a sub. I wanted to go for 2850 but if the bass gets cut off when in 2.1 mode then it is a no go for me.

Listening to this on my r2850db. Fun to research more after owning.

Not surprised R2850DB sounds fuller, it has bigass 8" woofers, 4" midranges and 3/4" tweeters :-O

R1380DB is coming to the channel very soon

I own R2850DB and the sound round 64hz (usually bass/kick drum) doesn't sound clean just like in this video. Something like baffle resonance. Plan to install vibration dampening material like the one people install in cars.

S3000pro vs klipisch the sixes which is better?

Az a 2850DB owner, and a former 2750DB owner, all I can say, is that I absolutely loved them both.... I did not have them at the same time, so I could not compare them next to each other, but I'm sure you can't go wrong with these. By the way, I had problems with the 2750db's passive side tweeter, so I had to send it back.... But I loved its overall sounding so much, that later (2 months ago) I bought its bigger brother (with the same tweeter, with no problems). I can't really say anything wrong about the 2850 for the price! Go for it! :)

@@user-gb7wi7ig8t At higher volumes, at a certain very narrow frequency range, strange additional noise came from the tweeter. It was hearable all the time a little bit, but in 8/10 songs it was not that bad. But in the other 2/10 songs it competely destroyed the listening experience.... I admit disassembling it before sending back. I was hoping that its maybe just a loose connection or sth, but it wasn't. I connected an outer amplifier through an outer crossover, and it did the same.... So it was the tweeter for sure. But I did not manage to find out what the exact problem was.

@@SuperCern For music absolutely! There is a treble and bass knob on them. For my taste, when they set to the middle it sounds good, but a little bit dull. Setting the knobs to the max makes the music come alive, especially the treble, so I usually use it with the knobs maxed out. But I have no problem with this, because that is exactly why the knobs are there. I listen to every kind of music, and I didn't find specific genres that do not sound great on them (so far). I usually don't like how metal and rock music sounds which is my personal favourite , but I really like them on the 2850DB. Bass is there, its not too few, and not too much. I don't think its going to surprise anyone, but it can't reach outstandingly deep frequencies. 40 Hz is very good, 35 is okay, and at around 30 Hz and below, you can't really hear anything. But this is exactly what you can expect from a 8" driver like this. Its not a complaint, bass overall is very good! By the way, there is a great little EQ software, called Equalizer APO. With this software its possible to get so much bass out of these speakers, that you won't believe your own ears.... And its possible to extend the lower frequency respone too (but of course, it must be done very carefully because you can damage your speakers) As for movies, I don't really have much experience, bacause I just don't really watch movies. I use them for music, and gaming. I think its good for gaming, but nothing special.... So it must be good for movies too.

Where were those measurements done? Looks like the came from a room with quite severe room resonance at around 65Hz.

I have a Topping dx3 pro+ with the 2750DB and it's better than the built in Texas Instruments DAC. You can hear the difference.

Indeed, looks like the left/right sides are reversed. But I doubt it makes any qualitative difference, the speaker placement isn't really relevant.

I have Edifer R1850db with 3/4 tweeter (16w) + 4" mid-range (19w) total 35W rms x 2 (LR). This unit R2850db has LESS power on both mid and tweeter. This mid is 4.5, so small increase vs mine. I have a 2.1 system with 10" 400 peak watt sub. Will that 8" 3rd driver (45w) add more decibels of room sound or just change the crossover point at the sub-out port? My speakers are 60-20k and this model 42-20k. Assuming factory sub-out is different. $500 upgrade is not a small move to me.

Just numbers and numbers and more numbers.. In this case, don't seems to mean something in comparison to the biggest, cause the truth is that the R2850DB sounds so much better! And remember: a speaker with high sensibility can do more with less power than a speaker with low sensibility with higher power; so RMS numbers isn't everything.

hi, i want to setup a 2.1 system... im planning to buy the t5 but im confused by which will i pair with it that can outperform that R2850DB at around the same price tag... (T5 plus 2.0 equals around $450)... i will really appreciate it if you'll give me some expert advice... thank you...

I personally own R1700bts and R2850db, but I don't have the T5. What I recommend to rival the sound of R2850db, with a 2.1 set up. I think you can buy a pair of R2000db(120w) and pair it with T5(70w) = total 190w.

I must say that listening to them on my PC , no matter how good your headsed or what you are listening to is , you can't really grasp the difference untill you listen to them in real. First i must say that the price for 2850 is totally worth is over 2750, but it also depends on when you intend to put them , if you room is too small like 12-15m2 than even 2750 might be overkill and they will sound like crap with boomy bass and muddy mids. So lets get to the differences , 1st the soundstage of 2850 is bigger , yeah it is , not only cause of the bigger bass woofers 6.5 on 2750 vs 8 on 2850 , but also cause of the size of the 2850 itself , they are like 20% bigger than 2750, yes and this is awesome this is like really impressive given the fact that edifier are notorious for packing 70w in the same carcase as they pack 25-30w speakers, i was really surprisied cause the difference in power is not that great for edifier to pack then in a bigger carcase. Thats the main deal , sound stage is better and wider on 2850 cause they are bigger they also sound louder. 2nd the bass just hits different , the bass on 2850 is just so much better than 2750 , and i don't mean it soundwise , but feelwise , if you have them on your desk , or like 1-2m away from you , you can literally feel how your whole body is vibrating with the bass , specially your cest. I started with R1100 then upgraded to 1280db , than got myself the r1855db and now im with 2850db, i was choosing between 2850db, 2750 db and s351db , the s351db just didn't make it for me , idk why but is think its cause of the 8inch subwoofer, its too small for the power of satelites idk its weird cause the r1855db with the z623 subwoofer are atually way better basswise than s351db and its really weird given the fact that s351db is having a bigger 8inch vs 7.2 inch bassi driver on logitech. 1 thing i must say , if you have 1280 and think of upgrading to 1855db or even 1700 , just don't , its not worth , even if you get them on discount or something my experience with 1280 upgrade to 1855 is basicaly a waste of money :) just save a little more and buy a 2750 , or if you really like hip hop music like i do save a little more and buy 2850 they are totally worth the money.

Hi. that was a good information for me. I am planning to buy 1855db with external subwoofer(bought already) for Multimedia. But since you said its not worth upgrading from 1280 to 1855. Should i get the 1280 instead and save me some money? i just want the speakers to be clear in mid and high, since low will be handled by the subwoofer. Thank you.

@@kaghunchunglamleekamei8634 Well ,if you dont have 1280 and you are choosing between 1280 and 1855 then 1855 is a better overall pick , since it is bi amping and the tweeter is better than on 1280 , but yeah it depends on price , in my country the difference between 1280 and 1855 is 30 Euros that's not that big of a deal to not pick 1855 over 1280. And yeah 1855 does not cut the low frequency when you pair them with a subwoofer so if you have a subwoofer that does not have a volume and a lowpass filter then when paired with 1855 it might feel that there is just too much bass all over the place that eats up the middles.

I thought they were the same mid and tweeter, but they sound different. I like the sound of R2850db better, clearer highs, detailed, deeper bass.

I think any perceived difference (except for bass) comes from the microphones placement: since R2850DB are quite a bit bigger, the mid-highs come at the microphone at a different angle than for the R2750DB. I have both at home, and when sitting 3m away from them (and speakers placed about 2.5m apart) the sound is a bit more coherent than in this recording; if you listen to the speakers from much closer (nearfield, because for this video the mics are just 1m away) you can hear the varying sound as you dip or if you reach a bit higher with your head). Also, on the R28s the mid speaker and the tweeter are vertically aligned, while on the R27s the mid and the tw are kinda skewed. Again: this makes absolutely no difference from a normal listening distance, and the only time you would hear something funny would be if you listen to them while using the pair(s) as PC speakers sitting right next to the display, from a very close distance.

@@JoshyLats I use both pairs *only* on optical. I also connected some phones thru Bluetooth, and on R2850DB it's more than enough for good quality (because it has AptX codec). Sadly, the R2750DB only has Bluetooth SBC, and I'd say the sound becomes quite muffled... On the other hand, I tried contacting both thru the analogue RCA connection, and the good news is that if your source is good, the sound is basically the same as on the optical port. Subwoofer: I used an older subwoofer on the R2750DB, it needed a bit deeper reach; for R2850DB it's almost unnecessary, because it can really shake not only your home windows, but also to the houses next door :) (and I usually use them with at least -1 dialed in on the bass knob). I would still like to buy a subwoofer for R2850DB, not for more power but for a more accurate response under 35-40Hz; definitely useless if the aim is just powerful bass (and surprisingly few songs have really low bass; maybe only useful for movies). Oh, one last thing: if you want to use any of them as desktop speakers, make sure you have plenty of room on the tabletop _and_ set them at least 1.5-2m apart. Even more: while R2750DB works nicely in any room, the R2850DB doesn't really like small rooms; I can use them only in my bigger living room, and in my (smallish) bedroom it creates kinda too much resonance.

If you have neither and are choosing between R2750 and R2850 than go for R2850. If you already have R2750 than I would say it is not worth the hassle, stick with R2750

Hi guys, I need help. I have visited several sound stores and asked about the Edififer R2850. I have been told that Edifier in general does not provide good sound and this has come to my attention because of the very good comments I have heard on this channel. In my country, Argentina, there is not a single store that has Edifier equipment, except for the official store which, unfortunately, does not have a showroom and they only sell their products online. In other words, I would have to buy it without having heard it. Could you help me decide? Do you think I should "risk" buying it? I have been told that Edifier is not hifi and provides sound far below any hifi stereo system. Is that true? Does this Edififer model worth it? Are there maybe some better options for the same price? Thank you and please excuse me for my bad English.

I have owned the R2850db for 3 months and have been very impressed by them as being a great bang for your speaker buy. The R2850db are tri amped powered that put out good detailed mid range and high sound and can punch down low too, add a sub to it and you got a excellent sound system for music, home theater and streaming. I had Klipsch The Fives and like R2850db better for the vocals. For the price it's hard to beat the R2850db. For a smaller room at about the same price consider the old school analog powered Ethos Powered Speaker, they are well built but have limited connection option.

I think S360 has more clearer sound and comes with a subwoofer, but R2850 is 3-way and can be connected to a T5 subwoofer. So I don't know what to do. Have your head S360? ​@@eliancannizzaro5226 Edifier offers some of best bang for the buck speakers, both the S360/ R2850db were on my short list of what to buy when replacing my Klipsch The Fives. Even though there aren't many R2850db reviews I went ahead buying the R2850db and love them for music/streaming/PC/theater use, they are powerful, they do everything well and are 3 way vocally detailed, add a powered 12" Sub for down low punch and wow very impressive for under $700. I have 2 other sound systems costing much more but spend most my time in front of the R2850db. here's a review BUT the newer R2850db beats the R2750DB in everything. I for the life of me cannot hear the difference. I try.... Only for Jazz Con Cajon, I tend to hear more echo sound for the R2850DB than for R2750DB. But the original soundtrack did not have the echo sound, so in this particular case R2750DB seemed relatively more faithful to the original. Aside from this I couldn't tell more difference.

I have both of them (yes, I loved R2750DB so much that I bought the bigger brother too) and, placed on the same site it sounds perfectly equal until middle-low frequencies; the only exception is the bass zone under 50Hz. And that's exactly what the graphs in the video are already showing. If you can't hear that difference (again, only on the deeper bass zone) then maybe your listening environment/equipment isn't accurate there. You can hear on a bit better headphones or on nice speakers, maybe using a subwoofer.

If you can't hear the difference, it's because you are not listening on high-enough fidelity headphones. That said, the difference is not overwhelming.

edifier 2750 db covers a range between 45 Hz and 20 Khz winner.(it's better equalized) edifier 2850 db Frequency range: 42Hz ~ 20kHz.(bass drowns out treble)

A meaningless comparison - I am listening to your 2 sets of speakers through MY Speakers. Not surprisingly they both sound as good as my speakers.

As far as I can tell R2850DB sounds better/more pleasing, but it's BIG, so I have to go with R2750DB Ty @dsaudio.review for making my decision easier. Keep up the good work🔥
