Drywall Nation - How to Use Trim-Tex Tear Away L Bead
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Brian from Drywall Nation shows you how to install Tear Away L Bead! hubs.ly/H0CQlp90
The star of the show on Tear Away L Bead is the perforated flange running down the side of the bead. It both acts as a guide for your knife and as a kind of built-in, vinyl painter’s tape that protects the area around the bead from mud.
This means, when you’re mudding in the bead, you can apply compound all the way up to the mud bump without fear of splashing any over into the adjoining surface. Then, when you’re ready, just rip away the tear-off strip to leave a clean, crisp edge every time!

I used around my tub surround. It’s awesome. Clean looking edges.
It is recommended that you use mold & moisture resistant drywall in bathroom. Particularly around a shower.
We got our trim Tex from a local interior supplier here in Anchorage. Had to order from Seattle. But so excited to install it.
Thanks Brian,great video
Thank you
Awesome!
This thing is life changing
What is recommended? Overlap the dryway on the edges of the shower wall? or DO NOT overlap the shower wall edges with drywall? Also, do we have to leave a 1/4in gap between the flange and the shower wall or push the flange flush against the shower wall and peeling away the tearaway strip creates the 1/4 gap?
Well done Brian!
did the drywall install over the flange?
I'm terrible with glue so I prefer to use staples. I had to make adjustments after putting them up and wouldn't have been able to do that with glue. Plus the mfr said the glue would not work on cementboard. I've got a glue up surround and it will be going over cement board so I will be putting it up after putting up the L-bead. My walls are 1/4" printed plywood panels in the rest of the room so the 1/2" cement board had ugly edges. I wanted to cover them better and this trim makes it easier. Although, I did go with Clark Deitrich bc I couldn't find Trim Tex in my area.
Just wondering it doesn’t need mesh tape for vinyl trims
Tear away is inferior to tape on, with its square corner its easily over sanded leaving a visible line at the mud break. The tear away portion makes it tough to have a consistent reveal(you can’t see the reveal) Use tape on trim and leave a caulk gap, to mask use paper joint tape fold in center use your 6”knife to push into gap. After you coat L trim run knife between bead and paper, when mud is dry pull out paper and you can a perfect gap
I board to the flange, prefill with easy sand, tape and coat sand and clean off any spill over onto the tub surround. Never had any problems but wondered if I’m doing too much after seeing this?Is my method too risky also since im running my tools along the surround?
Would have liked to see how you dealt with the shower outlet where your knife didn't fit.

Do you add silicone in the small spaces (at the corners?) between the shower wall and the tear-away bead?

Definitely. Don't want to allow any spaces for water to enter behind your walls.

I noticed that gap right away and thought that looks like shit. I also agree that if its not filled you are going to get moisture in there and mould.
Clean line pushing tight against the fiberglass shower surround but….. that is an ever expanding material, and we all know, water always finds it way..
I use staples with it as well

Staples won't hold shit.. there only going into the drywall..
Where can I buy this?. I’ve tried Lowe’s, Home Depot, etc. thanks

Home Depot has the equivalent tear away corner bead like he's using in this specific video. The only heads up about it is that you may have sand the side that goes on to the drywall- the ones I picked up had some plastic bits sticking out ever so slightly. I just used 80 grit sandpaper and it came off easily to make things smooth... like it should be.

No ... do not use mud to apply.

You can, but for fortitude's sake it really is worth the extra step and money to buy some kind of spray adhesive to install this bead and give it one more reason to never fall off of that wall.

I’ve been doing drywall for 37 years so I would definitely think drywall mud would hold these on. Whenever I drywall a house with archways, I use the plastic arch and I use drywall mud and they do great. Same material! Just use your drywall mud heavier so it won’t pull away from the wall.
Where do you buy these?

Home Depot, right next to the corner beads. Don't look for the product. Instead, look for what's called a plastic "tear-away" bead and make sure you buy the bead with the correct return to match your drywall thickness.
Why can't vyou use corner bead,, cut back on the hidden side you would still have an edge to run your knife, and you have a side to run caulk., just an idea if you could not make it to the store

Or you could not waste time for no reason and use tape like a normal person.

@@lHiTMANllHow would you use the tape? Flat or folded into an angle? If folded does the fold get pushed into the space between the drywall and the shower surround to cover the cut edge of the drywall?

Why not just use tape?! It's so much faster and it's better overall. We don't hang over the flange, so we fill the gap with 45 min mud then mesh tape and 2 coats of mud. If you're worried about mud on the shower, then just spray it with wd40... Mud flakes right off.
Now you fill in those nice clean edges with silicone, you will never see the clean edges once silicone

I believe that’s the point though. Paper and mud a bit further away from the areas where water/condensation build up and run. In this application, it’s not about seeing a clean end.

We just tape ours with the gun when we're taping our flats. Been doing that for over 40 years and it's a lot faster...

Nobody around where I'm at uses this, takes to much time . Easier to just wipe the mud off tub after taping. Cheaper and faster to tape=more profit.

When a fukin manufacturer tells u vinyl is better than metal for home building you should reconsider your manufacturer... just sayin

Do you mean like when I hit my vinyl corners and they are fine, but when I hit my metal corners they're bent beyond repair? Do you mean like that? Is that the better option?
