Andrew you saved me calling an appliance repair ($$$). -always make sure dryer is solidly plugged in. -clear out all the lent. TaDa Great video.

Try the drier knob first. If the barrel is cracked it won't ,"hug" controller shaft. I found this out after taking the drier apart to check all the expert advise given on line. This was not recommended by the so called experts. I grabbed the shaft with a plyers,turned it and the dryer started right up. I will order a new knob today.

You are the man! I bought a Maytag washer and dryer. The people gave me the dryer because they said it stopped working. It has been in my storage building but I wanted a matching set so I looked this video up and brought it in the house. My other dryer worked so when I tested the thermal fuse and got nothing I swapped them. Boom! The Maytag fired up and worked great!!! Thank you many times over!!!

Would the thermal fuse prevent the machine from starting or doing anything? My dryer was spinning and heating but not drying, so I figured there was a clog, but as it was running it all of a sudden quit working. What could it be due to?

Thank you Andrew !!! Before i watched your video i was sure i needed a new thermal fuse, but decided to check out the door switch and was able to find that the trouble was the door being slightly loose and just just had to be adjusted. Thank you for saving me a bunch of money and unnecessary work.

Thanks Andrew! Your video gave me an excellent overview of what to expect when I tackle our electric dryer that's getting super hot on the top. That only happens when the timer knob is on the left half but not on the right half. My guess is that the timer will have to be replaced. Since the dryer certainly works, I'm just delaying and delaying before I open it up! Yup, I'm lazy....

Yes, I have checked both the Duct, the thermo fuse, and the Dood switch and they all are good, However the dryer is still not turning on. I need to check the timer now. It went out in cycles.

Our dryer is almost identical to the one in our video. The start switch doesn't seem to have any effect. i.e. If we rotate the timer to an 'on' position and close the door, the dryer starts and continues to run until the timer reaches the end of it's cycle. To operate the dryer we never have to use the start button. Which component do you think might be at fault. We have operate the dryer this way for many years.

I've checked the continuity and the door switch works, as well as the on switch on the console. However, it still is not turning on. Would the burned out door light be the source of the problem and all I have to do is replace the bulb? Thanks

I have a GE gas dryer model GTD45EASJ2WS. The dryer starts fine and heats up but then shuts itself off. I checked the lint build up and there was some but not too much. I decided to run it only on air and it never shut itself off until the timer ended. I just now watched your video so I’ll get my test meter and check those thermostats first. Do you think that’s the likely culprit? Thank you so much. This troubleshooting video was one of the best I’ve seen and definitely the easiest to understand.

How do I test the timer cycles? I acquired this exact electric dryer pre owned with new belt. In excellent condition. Love the super size. Runs great and heats when the timer cycle decides to cooperate and complete the selected cycle. When it stops short other cycles will not start immediately. Have to play with timer cycle selection a few minutes until a cycle cooperates but May again not complete the cycle.

I replaced high limit thermal thermostat on Kenmore Elite HE3 model. I fixed the issue of non heating but after reassembling the drum does not rotate with full load. With few clothes, it is working and running. what could be the possible issue?

Good video. My problem is the drier won’t turn on. I noticed that the drier timer knob feels different when rotated. It no longer clicks as you turn through the various settings. If the switch is bad, will it prevent the drier from running?

I thought my timer was bad and bought one to replace it. Tried the old knob on it and turns out the knob was cracked and was not turning the timer as it should. Now I have an extra timer unit! Just replaced the knobs.

With this model, do you happen to know the belt size or item number. I think its my belt on why it won't stay started

I'm with you Clinton..got a HTDX100ED6WW Hotpoint dryer and I can't find a thermal fuse either??..maybe they have something a little different?..on my machine I pretty much have to remove the drum(which is easy) to see the "thermal fuse like" devices..that monitor the temps ..apparently there are various designs for the fuses..some very straight forward looking and some not

THIS IS SIMILAR TO THE HOT POINT AND MAY ALSO HAVE AN INTERLOCK SWITCH ON THE BASE PLATE OF THE MOTOR. THAT CAN GO BAD THE PULLEY ARM ACTIVATES IT, WHEN THE BELT BRAKES IT SHOULD SHUT THE MOTOR DOWN. IF THE BELT IS NOT BROKEN TEST THE INTERLOCK SWITCH

Don’t forget type of venting used and length/elbows is a major cause of failure. Soft foil or white plastic is never to be used. Refer to owners guide for max elbows and length. Many dryers will fail if roof vented.

I have the same dryer. It turns on and heats fine, but after a few minutes, it stops. Not sure how much time because I haven't been able to monitor it but it doesn't finish the cycle. I will be looking at it this weekend and will be removing all of the excess lint. Any tips on what might be causing it to stop? Fuse maybe? Thanks!

Mine was doing the same thing, changed the front and back plastic bearings and now its fine

my service contract does not cover the dial. Have no deductible . Hotpoint dryer 26 months old. Used very little. Thanks to You Tube I got one from Amazon. No more GE Hotpoint items for me. Thanks

You dont really open the back, you take of lid then front. Remove drum and everything is exposed

I can't turn the timer knob, it's stuck. I even replaced it with a new one. The new one is also stuck. I tried it with a plier and it won't budge. I am talking about the timer knob. The knob just spins, so I replaced the knob and the timer switch. It work once because I guess the timer was set to 30 minutes but after it stopped, I can't get it to turn. Any idea? Greatly appreciate any advice you may have!

I have a Frigidiare Heavy Duty Dryer...I changed the belt and replaced the entire bearing, due to the dryer squeakiness.... all is done but now it seems the hot of dryer gets too hot...so don't know if just me or what.

Have this exact model of dryer. Isn't starting. Can the thermal fuse going bad be the cause?

The problem I am having is that when I turn the left knob, the dryer starts as expected, but when I release the knob, it stops. It will stay running as long as I keep the left knob twisted (clockwise). The dryer does spin while I have the knob turned. I replaced the rotary switch part # WE4X881, but the problem persists. Thoughts on what else needs to be replaced? Thank you.

if the dryer doesn't start and you need to know if the power is on - open the door. there's a light in there.
