    That’s because people confuse or simply don’t know the difference between dehydrated skin and dry skin. Dehydrated is lacking moisture, dry is lacking natural oils. So if you have naturally dry skin your skin doesn’t produce enough oils on its own. You can have oily, combo or dry skin and your skin be dehydrated at the same time because it’s lacking moisture aka water. Hyaluronic acid help skin to retain moisture not oils, therefore if your issue is truly dry skin then what you’re needing is oils to replace what you’re missing.

    @@jacquelinew3881 Thank you for this! 💜 I have oily skin, but occasionally it gets dehydrated. HA helped getting the balance back. @@angelauska You need to read both comments more carefully again. My skin is NOT dry, but oily, so putting oils on it won't help. However, since my oily skin gets dehydrated sometimes I need moisturizer with HA, which I use. But let's say someone has dry skin ( meaning lacking oils, not moisture), oils will help. But if your skin is dry and dehydrated you need both, oils and HA. Edit: Btw, I do share her opinion, that's why I was thanking her for making a distinction between dry and dehydrated skin and sharing with us what helps which skin problem.

Then i started incorporating a HA toner (japan's Hada labo) and my skin felt moisturized and plump and the texture got better. Since i'm oily skinned i quit the coconut oil and only used the HA. This isn’t a video about moisturizer. It’s about hyaluronic acid. Moisturizers used to be good because they contained oils. Then they got on this “oil-free” kick, which makes no sense. Now I’m frustrated by it being extremely hard to find a product that does not have HA. When it first came out, it was always made clear that in dry air the ha will draw moisture from your skin. Somehow that quickly got ignored. Maybe I have to try oils now. It’s hard to find one that’s not irritating.

    I just want to kindly point out - you answered your own question at the end of your comment. Many companies went “oil free” when consumers stopped using their products containing oils because the oils were blamed for acne breakouts, skin irritation, and other issues like seborrheic dermatitis(my mom was advised by her dermatologist to only use oil free products to control this condition and treats his directive like it’s gospel.) I’m curious if these products just contained poor quality oils or if there were other chemicals used in production that degraded the oils or caused problems on the skin and were overlooked as being the cause.

Some oil over tretinoin occasionally feels good too.All the serums and „magic creams and potions“ are just fancy and aren’t doing anything! Stay bold as you are! But in the morning I use a self-mix of ultra-molecular HA and hydrolate mixed with more hydrolate in hands. In my creams there is no HA. In creams mostly the big size of HA is used, that truly can not penetrate skin and stays on the surface. It is much cheaper to produce. I can use oils and butters for the body, but have a problem on face with it since some years. It stays on surface and skin is still dry. This only worked when I was younger. But my serum for night is a mix of retinol, squalane and oils. This works well. I love your examples of creams and most moisturizers in the video ; )

    I like rosehip oil. I still use moisturiser but if if feels like it needs more I'll revert to an oil. I think hyauaronic acid works better if you spritz some hydrating toner on first before you use it, I do that with my moisturiser that has that ingredient too. I still have oil in my skin so I don't use an oil all the time.

    Harvard Health also recommends treating dry skin by soaking it in water and then covering it in an occlusive (they mention Vaseline). Do you think there are any potential disadvantages to the skin by using occlusives like oil or petrolatum? I read a few studies online that concluded both prolonged occlusion and prolonged water exposure disrupted the stratum corneum and induced barrier damage. I wonder if something like squalane oil would be occlusive enough to have negative effects.

  • @Dr_Abs

    @Dr_Abs

    8 ай бұрын

    I wouldn't say squalane is a complete occlusive - only when you apply so much that it forms a thick layer. I personally recommend to my patients to apply a thin layer so that gaseous exchange can still take place and you're not blocking the skin like an occlusive. That way, were trying to mimic what nature intended for the skin as closely as possible.

    Understand your skin is the key. Use whatever that helps your skin. I use HA and Vit C serum on damp skin followed by aloe gel moisturizer. Then sunscreen on it. In evenings, HA serum and then moisturizer and tretinoin at night or just basting my skin with diaper rash cream. Works wonders to my skin because mine is oily and dry. It doesn't need anymore oil but moisture. I follow Dr. Idriss advice but improvise because now I understand my skin better.

    Thank you!! I've been saying this for a couple of years, but as I didn't have any scientific data to "back me up," nobody would listen to me. To me, it just made sense. I'd been slithering moisturiser on my face for decades (serums were introduced later) and my skin remained dry. I was told that HA was the answer to my concern - no, it wasn't. My skin became even drier! Out went the moisturiser and the HA, in came squalene, followed by castor oil. Result : NORMAL SKIN 😊❤❤

    Thank you for this video! But I have a question, what about if you live in a dry climate like Arizona and the ones that area genetically under producing sebum? I find that darker skin tones are less dry but lighter complexions have drier skin. Are they exceptions? Or you still just recommend oil? How can you tell if someone is under producing the essential ceramides, hyaluronic acid, etc? What if they need to supplement it?

  • @Dr_Abs

    @Dr_Abs

    2 ай бұрын

    If sebum is missing then I'd replace with something as close as possible to sebum, so I'd still recommend an oil, personally. If they're underproducing in terms of cell function then I don't need to know what specifically they're making less of - I just target cell function still as a whole. Also, not making enough HA can be because there isn't enough of a protective barrier such as sebum, remember.

    I have understood this because I have travelled and live in dry SoCal. I remember when HA was the trend of all trends and did not get why it was not a miracle product along with all the gel creams. I have combo skin, this should be for me. Also… why are things like La Mer or even Nivea better? It is because they are are occlusives. That and HA can work, under occlusives. Also opposite where it is very humid. HA gel cream might be enough on its own.
