I've just spent 11 precious minutes watching a guy pack a sleeping bag in another bag... TWICE! Outer Hebrides here, dry bag in my pack and individual dry bags for all my kit, it's like an 80's band here, wet wet wet lol. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Used to use a heavy duty green garbage bag as our "dry" bag, and would put it all inside the sleeping bag container, back in my field days. Worked fine, so would be much like a dry bag inside a stuff sack. Biggest issue was getting as much air out of the bags as possible before sealing them up - no fancy valves or goretex or such.

yes, sometimes it's just easier to fit your sleeping bag in a drybag, as you can shape those better to fit AND keeps it dry a stuffsack is nice, but a drybag you can get it just as small, but you get a shape that's moldable., witch i prefer personally Thanks for the video, ATB Wooly

Not to add more debate, but I have always used a large Ortlieb dry bag as a pack liner, stuff my s/bag in my bivy bag and the just stuff it into the bottom of my pack. I then pack around it with all my other gear in dry bags as it is easy to access. Personally I found stuff bags a pain in the arse to use, especially on day 5 of a trip when you are knackered and nothing is packing away as it did at the start of the trip!

As always cracking vid. Love the two little throw away comments as Bruno the wonder dog came charging through, star of the show again. Dry bag aii the way for me. I've lost count of the straps I've ripped off stuff sacks trying to make things as small as possible. Never split a dry bag👍👍👍👍👍keep em coming

As I do most of my camping out of a canoe, dry bag for sure. But, I do use Sea to Summit Event compression dry bags fairly often. Best of both worlds. But like you, I agree it is imperative to keep your sleeping bag dry.

I mostly use the Carinthia stuff bag for my British army version.. it works ok.. If I'm moving camps or doing a few overnighters in a given month, I just leave the bag in the French goretex bivvy and stuff them both together in my pack. I use the Dutch Lowe Alpine Sting and both ways fit fine in the pack and leave me room for sleep pads, pillow, waterproofs and various stuff... I've added two MTP canteen pouches on the front for my Osprey water bottle, cup and purification stuff... as well as a molle MTP style claymore pouch above them for my tarp. That leaves the side pockets for cook kit, tent; axe, knives etc... I find the stuff sack keeps the sleeping bag nice and tight, where as all my dry bags slowly let in air and fill more of the space..

@@RedBranchBushcraft It's served me well for 2 years now. It's heavy but it's bomb proof. That said I could do without the bottom compartment zipper opening as I never use it & I wish it had side water bottle pockets instead.

Very interesting video/question, thank you For me I think it is the stuff sack that can do the best job for compressing as much as possible ... but you clearly showed us that the dry bag is easier/faster and by far (to stuff and to store in the backpack) .To improve like you said just change with a model with an air evacuation valve ... what I just ordered (a 20 and a 30 liter ones, I think I will be good with that and my others normal dry bags I already have)

interesting - i see why you're using a drybag; mind if i ask which one this is? bc here in CH, the only drybags you get are those made of the tarpulin used to cover the cargo-areas of trucks (very thick and sturdy, but no way in hell usable to compress something)
