Drunk Pregnant Mom Crashed into 16 People, Killing 2: Prosecutors

Ойын-сауық

Ashley Marie Monroe, 35, is locked up with a $1 million bond after Michigan law enforcement says she crashed into a group of 16 family members walking to a relative’s house along the side of a road. Monroe, who has four children and is pregnant with her fifth, was caught within minutes of allegedly fleeing the scene. Law&Crime’s Jesse Weber analyzes the 11 felony charges Monroe now faces with anti-drunk driving advocate and attorney Tray Gober.

@@Codacoli Her baby will be born with foetal alcohol syndrome. Her other children may have it if she drank. I raised money for a home for babies born with that condition. It is heartbreaking to see the damage it does. There is a distinct look on the small faces of those children. They constantly cry and people who work with them don't use perfume or scented lotions. Those products cause trauma to the babies. Brain damage is the norm and they will always be prone to alcoholicism. Their futures are grim and it is very difficult to find people willing to adopt them. This woman must receive a very long prison sentence and enter a recovery programme. I didn't touch alcohol when pregnant and I can't imagine drinking and driving.

My mother was broadside by a drunk driver in 1965. Her hip was destroyed. She had, unheard of at the time surgery, to reconstruct her hip. She worked as an ER and surgical nurse. Over the remainder of her life, she had fifteen more surgeries on that same hip. She had a lifetime of pain. My mother passed away last year with no ability to walk anymore. For sixty years she suffered constant pain. That drunk driver went on to get two more drunk driving charges and killed two people. When are they going to get tougher on these drunk drivers?

The sad thing is, I know people who have been sentenced for seven DUI's and their license has been permanently revoked. They still drive! Some states even allow them to keep registering cars! When does this madness stop? If you have no license, you shouldn't be able to register a car. And if your friend/family knowing let you drive their car with no license, they lose the right to register and are also responsible for the damage you do and the lives you take.

My hubby was hit by a drunk driver. His car was totalled. His neck was broken. The other car couldn’t move. He saw the wife get out, go around, push her drunk hubby into the passenger seat and sit in the driver’s seat just as cops arrived. The cops called to rush the ambulance and went to talk to the officer. The wife said she had looked at her hubby and that car had hit my hubby’s. When the cop came back to my hubby, my sweaty told the cop what the wife had done just before. A witness came forward and said the same thing. Both drunk hubby and lying wife were charged. It ended my hubby’s semi pro football career.

Hate to hear that, it's all too common. My BIL was killed by a habitual DWI offender and unfortunately the criminals wife was the same and enabled him with insured vehicles to operate even though he had lost his driving privileges for life. He first permanently maimed a couple years ago before he killed my brother in law and he still never did any time in prison for what he did, only probation and of course the time he sat in jail after the tragic incidences, waiting for his wife to post bail. She is a kindergarten teacher and not only let's him get on the road like that but keeps buying him trucks, insuring them and putting them in her name for him to drive. A week after killing my BIL a neighbor seen him out at the store buying a suitcase of beer and driving a brand new truck (newer model) than he hit my BIL with as a pedestrian just mere days before. It's sickening because this woman has kids and grandchildren of her own that share the road with her habitual DWI offender husband and still that doesn't stop him OR her! people like this and their enablers ONLY care about THEMSELVES!!! I hope you're sweet husband is doing better and I'm glad he escaped with his life but it's a shame what that criminal took from him (his career). The criminal that killed our loved one took away a 5yr old boys daddy that day. I say they throw the book at all of them, don't drink anything and drive (I'm a drinker myself) but there are far too many alternatives such as friends or Uber etc. No excuse these days and way too many people and pedestrians on the road compared to even 20yrs ago and people fail to realize this.

Part of the problem is, drunk drivers are let off, with light sentences. Multiple DUI'S are too common, for many people. People are killed and maimed for life, yet our Justice System is failing us. Please vote in Judges that will give proper sentences, that deter even first time offenders. Enough is enough.

I would describe it as either someone throwing a giant concrete slab at you or getting hit by a wrecking ball. My entire skeloton shook when I got hit. I was in traction for 3 months on four-hourly morphine injections. I spent another month on crutches. Then a full year in physio and hydro therapy. I had to learn to walk again. This was 1997. I am 53 now and my injuries still affect me today. I walk with a limp called the Trendelenberg gait. The compensation payout was enough to buy me a house. I would not wish the experience on my worst enemy.
