I would rather use one of the Geek and Gorgeous exfoliating toners (I use Calm Down bc I have sensitive skin) for the exfoliation and the Drunk Elephant Protini to get the peptides. Still ultimately cheaper and better. Thank you for introducing all of us to the best (and more affordable) products! I am loving Geek and Gorgeous because of your videos. When it comes to chemical exfoliation, I prefer a toner. My fave is "Knockout Toner" by Tarte. It took the place of my beloved cult classic Lotion P50 from Biologique Recherche, which is just too hard to get and expensive. The Knockout has lactic acid, salycilic acid, niacinimide, phytic acid, malic acid. So it helps with acne, improves the appearance of pores and helps even out Hyperpigmentation. Beware it is strong, you will tingle and it smells like vinegar and onion bulb... but the smooth glow it gives the next morning is worth it. Kinda pricey, another affordable option is the Gycolic Toner from The Ordinary.

I found the P50 was SO strong my skin wasn't a fan, but it seems like both that and the Tarte can work well for a lot of people. Maybe for once my skin picked the more affordable product, lol!

Sarah i am proud to tell you that for most my acne and anti-aging concerns in including hyperpigmentation i have decided to rely on prescription stuff! Here is why my derm prescribed for me! Aczone 7.5% Dapsone gel(Antibacterial, anti inflammatory), Winlevi 1% clascoterone(topical anti androgen, inhibits sebaceous gland activity therefore reduced sebum production & reduces acne), retin-a micro tretinoin microsphere 0.06% gel(retinoid) and for my body’s acne she prescribed Aklief/0.005% trifarotene which is a 4th generation retinoid, pretty new acne drug that can be safely applied to large areas of the body without worry of systematic absorption. On top of that i am using skinceuticals silymarin cf, a proven very effective vitamin c serum that is great for acne prone skin so as you can see i have decided to move away from cosmetics and rely on proven well studied fda approved drugs to target my skin concerns, i have no interest in hydroquinone though! The retinoid and vitamin c serum are enough

That hair color suits very much and I really love your soft undefined curls. DE products are insanely expensive and they charge a lot of money for only small amounts of products just like these luxurious bougie brands. I know it’s all about being fragrance, alcohol and even silicone free which sometimes makes me want to laugh so hard because since when silicone is bad for skin…. I don’t know 🤷‍♀️. there are many brands out their have the same approach and their products are still super affordable.

Have I been misinformed or is the pH too low for a multi-peptide serum? I‘ve been lead to believe peptides are minimally effective when in a very acidic pH environment; which is why a lot of people/brands advise waiting 20 or more minutes after using serums with L-ascorbic acid or Alpha Hydroxy acid to apply peptide products

Interesting they’ve combined peptides with with lactic acid. As I understand it, peptides require a more alkaline base, while obviously AHA’s need an acidic base to function as an exfoliant. At a pH of under 4, it seems like that would undermine the efficacy of the peptides. I would normally assume their chemists have somehow found a way to combine the two, but I’ve long been skeptical of their suggestions to “cocktail” different products.

I am also with you- peptides (especially copper peptides) do not perform or absorb well at a high ph. Ur complexion looks awesome. I’ve been having problems with mine. I have rosecea. Last couple days my face and my eyelids are tender and burning. Don’t know if it’s from the rosacea or allergies. I put some prescription hydrocortisone on my face and it has helped somewhat. Hence the problem: what can I use on my face? So upsetting.

Hi I also have rosacea and it can affect the eyes, as well as the face. i recommend seeing your Doctor if possible (or perhaps your pharmacist), especially regarding the eye issues. In the meantime strip back all your skincare to the absolute minimum. I use aqueous cream in a thick layer as a cleanser when skin is so inflamed, avoiding the use of any surfactants etc. Rinse off gently and use a basic moisturiser your skin tolerates, with a mineral spf during the day (the gentlest spf I have found to use during a flare is the paula's choice calm mineral spf30, but whichever one you have that doesn't burn/sting). You can use a mild steroid if your skin will tolerate, but nowhere near the eyes. You will need an eye drop or ointment for that area, hence the recommendation for Doctor or pharmacist. Slowly introduce back in your normal rosacea treatment cream eg azelaic acid on the face, but it will take several days probably to go back to normal. I hope that helps. Cool compresses can feel soothing on the eye and facial area for symptom relief. Best wishes and I hope it settles down soon.

  • @NOBSBeauty

I agree with Loraine- rosacea can be so tough, but a short, gentle routine is the way to go. A gentle cleanser and a thicker moisturizer is going to help. Less is more until you decipher what is going on if it is allergies or rosacea.

Going to have to check them out- I would absolutely rather support a smaller brand over the huge corporate monsters any day! SAP is an interesting derivative- I am still hoping to see more research done on all the derivatives. From the preliminary research I've seen it looks like SAP has some huge anti-acne benefits outside of what normal LAA has. so for breakout prone skin I think SAP is absolutely worth a try. SAP also appears to have antioxidant and photo-protective properties like LAA does, although I'd still love to see more research done, for some people they prefer SAP to LAA because of the acne benefits. This article goes into more depth about SAP, it's benefits, and questions still relating to it: incidecoder.com/ingredients/sodium-ascorbyl-phosphate

@@NOBSBeauty You're so knowledgeable- knew you'd know!! I just loved their customer service and passion, small company who love what they're doing. Although, I don't have acne issues-I'm 45, so want the anti oxidant and brightening properties. Would love if you could check them out and cover them in a vid. I'm positive they would respond so well if you reached out to them! Thanks so much Sarah, you're a walking encyclopedia!

I was waiting for someone to mention it- that is true- although some may disagree- generally peptides aren't as effective and absorbed when the pH is low. because of that I do wonder how effective the peptides are in this particular formula. They won't do any harm, but just how helpful they are I'm not sure. Peptides are generally most effective at a pH between 4.5 and 5.5.

Hi Sarah I can only imagine the disaster using this twice a day would be for sensitive skin - chemical burns anyone? Although I'm not a fan of DE, this massive ingredient list does at least have a high amount of good ingredients. I don't think these massive ingredients list products are normally all that great for very sensitive skin either - too many things increasing the risk of an adverse product reaction. For those with the budget and non sensitive skin this will probably work pretty well, but I always think their claims it is suitable for anyone, used twice daily and mixed with their other products is a recipe for disaster on any but the least sensitive skin type. As to packaging all I care about is if it's functional, as my skincare is stored in a cool dark place (cupboard). I don't personally use EGF for the associated risk of exacerbating cancerous or pre cancerous skin cells, but that's purely a matter of personal choice. i'm a fitzpatrick one with freckles and therefore at a slightly higher than normal risk anyway, so I decided not to use them. I spend the most of my budget on my retinoid and my spf - the two items I believe to be most important. I will also spend on a decent antioxidant and azelaic acid, which are also important to my rosacea and eczema prone menopausal skin. All my hydration and moisture is well taken care of by my affordable products - which still contain peptides, ferments and other good for skin ingredients. More expensive doesn't usually mean better and I shop by ingredients and my budget anyway. Overall (to state the obvious lol) this isn't a product/brand I would buy. I was interested in your take on it though. Best wishes. ps It's been really hot/humid here in Scotland lately (almost unheard of here I know - up to 90% humidity) and my skin is freaked out. My usual products were sliding off my face including my mineral spf, which isn't inspiring confidence in it's effectiveness. Previous to the advent of my rosacea I had used/loved the ultrasun formula and still use it on the body. I decided to try it on the face again and yippee my skin is tolerating it, at least during this high humidity. I realise once our weather normalises this will probably go back to drying my facial skin out horribly, but for now it's working and I have faith in it's spf protection (more importantly). My skin is a bit dry at the end of the day, but it has stayed on and I'm layering hydration to compensate. x

I cannot imagine anyone having skin that could tolerate this twice a day, perhaps mixed with a moisturizer, but other than that, ouch!!! I am going to be so interested in research coming on EGF. I'm quite interested to see what studies show in terms of long term use on it, whether or not it is safe or not. It has been so humid here lately, too! The second I step outside the sweating begins, and it doesn't stop until the end of the day. So challenging to keep sunscreen on, begins sliding off right after I apply it. I do understand more why a lot of the jbeauty and kbeauty sunscreens have sweat technology.

@@NOBSBeauty And the need for very light textures lol. I'm such a fan of rich creams and highly nourishing products normally, to combat the cold, wind, rain and central heating. I cannot get my normal products to absorb in this weather though. I had to go out and buy a very simplistic lotion moisturiser to see me through this odd weather. x

I think it is a combo of things- some self tanner, being hot- the studio was in the mid 80's when I recorded this - it's the only room in our house without air conditioning. My arms a bit more tan than I would like, I've been excerising outside all summer and keeping sunscreen on while sweating has been a challenge. Need to find a better hat. When my dad commented on my "nice" tan I realized things are not going well on my sunscreen front and I need to step up my game. 🙄

Actually Sarah when I complained to L’Oréal that one of their Skinceuticals products caused a lot of irritation immediately upon application- almost like it was an allergic reaction, they took it very seriously, apologized to me, asked me to return the product for testing in order to make sure it is not a batch issue and they offered me a full refund regardless & independent of what their testing says, they didn’t even ask me to wait, I just returned it & they refunded me. They actually recognise that you can develop allergies from products no matter how well formulated, unlike Drunk elephant they actually were very nice.

That is so good to hear, I would think "most" "legit" brands would want to know about issues for several reasons- it could be more common then they can address it by changing the formula, check to see if it was a bad batch, or perhaps just a one off. Good brands should want to improve and customer input is key for that.

This product sounds very interesting however I am not going to buy it. My main problem with Drunk Elephant is that they add Marula oil in all their products. My skin literally hates marula oil. No matter how little amount of it in a product, I break out almost immediately.

  • @NOBSBeauty

Seems like Marula can be iffy for a lot of skin types. Drunk Elephant always seems to formulate their products geared towards dry, non-acne prone skin. I really wish their products were more friendly for other skin types. Maybe Shiseido will do a line that is more friendly.
