Simply amazing. South-Indian percussion instruments are just so trance inducing. I can listen to the Mridangam for hours. Just out of interest, is Ghatam just another word for Gharha that we have in the Punjab region or is it slightly different? Also, forgive my ignorance, but can anyone please tell me what the name of the one-handed instrument is? Thank you

The instrument which he was playing was not really mridangam. It was pakhawaj which is completely different than mridangam. although they might sound the same, they are different. Pakhawaj is played with an open hand while mridangam is played like tabla with a closed hand. Please don't mistaken pakhawaj with mridangam.

Mridang likha hai caption me. Mridangam nahi likha hai . Read carefully. Mridang is a north Indian instrument but mridangam is a south Indian instrument.
