Drummer reacts to "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" (Live) by David Gilmour ft Crosby and Nash

Музыка

Thank you to our patron and supporter Heidi for this wonderful choice... just blown away. What a mind fuck this show must have been.. so many stars showed out for David. Richard and him are pure magic together and this is a beautiful tribute to Syd.

@neillenet291 years ago there was a website some Butt- nugget started called FansAgainstFloyd. He spent most of his time bashing Gilmour's slow style. Yes, he was a fan of all the guitar slingers of the day and high speed runs on a guitar. I hope he's grown up enough now to appreciate the complexity of Gilmour's playing.

@donpardo2510 In my band we have a very young guitarist who can shred like nobody's business. One day he came over to work on some songs and I played him the Pink Floyd pulse concert. Literally changed his life. Now he LOVES David Gilmour's playing. He thanked me for showing him that video.

And of course later in the concert David Bowie shows up to sing Arnold Lane and sing half of Comfortably Numb with David Gilmore! Also David Gilmour David Bowie and David Crosby were standing there in one of the sections of the DVD commentary and David Bowie says hey look 3D!!

Yeah, it doesn't get as much respect as it should. I like it a fair bit more than the Gdansk and Pompeii videos he put out. In latter day solo years, this is pretty much his peak. And the Crosby, Gils and Nash version of Find the Cost of Freedom is beautiful. Also worth remembering that David Bowie sings Numb but more brilliantly Arnold Layne which is amazing, amazing.

sadly two of these legends have since passed…. Richard and Crosby. And a third who performed at this show as well, Bowie. So awesome that they all shared this stage together. Dick Parry I believe is still kicking but he hasn’t performed with David since around this time. It’s one thing to be pushing 80 and to sing, play the keys, guitar, but the breath work it takes to play the sax is probably way more difficult when you get up there. Love the drummer, Steve. He was in Nash’s touring band but David “borrowed” him long term. I saw Crosby and Nash, with Steve on druns in a small venue maybe around 2012. Crosby was well known for being spicy and his relationship with Nash ebbed and flowed, but that night they were awesome together. I never quite appreciated how good of a singer Crosby was until I heard him fill that theater with this amazing voice when he did Delta, and also the two of them doing cost of freedom together. Lucky to have seen all these guys live.

Thanks, L33.. this was always one of my favorites.. just behind "Wish you were here"... almost everything from Dark Side & Wish were heavily influenced and/or dedicated to Syd.. appreciate your reaction (also, that I had not seen/heard this version before).... and give it up for Richard (RIP).. such an integral part of the band and their sound....p.s. if you hadn't heard before, David was the one that always kept in touch with Syd after he left, and made sure he got his share of the band's royalties..

Amazing version of this Classic Track. The great Dick Parry on Sax, who performed it on the original Album, ‘Wish You Were Here’. As well as playing Sax on the phenomenal, ’The Dark Side Of The Moon’ Album. Both Albums of course, are meant to be heard from beginning to end, as they’re intended to be. Hope you get to do those great Albums sometime soon. I’m looking forward to David’s new Solo Album this coming September. And in October, seeing David and his Band, live, back at the ‘Royal Albert Hall’. 🎶🎸❤️🎸🎶

Listen to A Boat Lies Waiting. Richard wright had died. So a boat lies waiting refers to his boat because he was an avid sailor. Listen to the lyrics. Another thing you may not be aware of is that David Gilmour's wife Polly Sampson wrote many of Pink Floyd's lyrics. Surprise!!

If i had never seen the live Pulse version, i would love this. To be honest, compared to Pulse i would rate this for performance about 40% and maybe 30% for the music and vocals. If you havent seen the Pulse or earlier tours versions, late 1980's and 1994, then you havent seen Pink Floyd live, except Meddle ( and Echoes ) live in Pompeii 1971 is just as good.
