The best thing about KGLW is their unpredictability. They can drop a microtonal synth pop and prog metal albums the same year. Following this band is like waiting for Santa several times a year instead of one. Even if it's not your cup of tea, you just want to know what they'll bring the next time. Rattlesnake and the whole album is interesting because they modified their guitars, bass, harmonica, and piano to allow for microtones (quarter tones). That's why it has this dirty/detuned/arabic feel throughout. The most insane part? They continue to grow. This August they released what I believe to be one of the best albums they have. Check "Dragon" if interested.

Dude, your "one-stop shop" comment is more accurate than you can understand, haha. From one drummer to another I think you'll find a lot to like with this band! Lots of concept albums, interesting music theory, changing time signatures, and so many genres. Their song "Dragon" off a recent album is a great example of their drummer's range, and it also has a sick music video.

I definitely see A TON of potential here. I'm guessing this one of their earlier tracks? They weaved SO many different genres and interesting ideas in this one song alone lol. I am definitely gonna check out more from them. I'm glad you enjoyed the video! 😀

TOTALLY ENJOYABLE ! I'll be thinking of the word rattlesnake all day after this. The tune itself was excellent I thought. definitely enjoyed your reaction to this band as a first-time listen-to myself. Very cool band and what a name. Matches the band perfectly

This band is a music cameleon. I love them. Every album is different genre but mostly badass.

Trust me, this is one of the best bands of the 2010s, and even the 2020s so far. This song is from 2016, and is the opening track of their 9th album (and 1st of 5 from 2017 alone) "Flying Microtonal Banana". These guys are insanely prolific, its almost guaranteed that they release at least 2 albums every year, and they constantly experiment with time signatures and genres. Whenever I recommend more King Gizz songs, I usually recommend 4 vastly different ones, and I'll do just that. "Catching Smoke" for a psych/prog synth pop song, "The River" for a jazz psych rock fusion jam and "Planet B" for some thrash metal (fake gore warning for the music video on that one.) Glad you enjoyed, looking forward to more! Also, today's their frontman Stu Mackenzie's 33rd birthday!

Glad you enjoyed! I sure as hell did 😆 what a unique blend of SO many genres and styles. They definitely wear their influences on their sleeve and I LOVE it. Thank you for the suggestions I will definitely add them to my list. I'm glad I did them! What a discovery. And I haven't even heard a tip of the iceberg I'm guessing lol

KG+LW are experimenting and progressing their stuff; bands like DT etc. are good - but are in a style box labelled "this is prog".... KG+LW have the authentic spirit of _real_ prog! Also sensing some Hawkwind space-rock vibes in here! :)

I get what you are saying. These guys could come out with a country fusion album and people wouldn't blink. But if DT goes "too soft" or "too heavy" for one album people lose their minds 😅 also DT will always be in the "prog" box for better or for worse. These guys aren't:)

I know I'm going to get checked by a fellow Gizzhead here, but the weird, yellow guitar is a guitar affectionately nicknamed by the band as "The Flying Microtonal Banana," which "Rattlesnake" is the opening track on the album which it shares with the aforementioned Flying Banana. This was when the band started really honing in on their sound while experimenting with odd time signatures as well as microtones. If you look at the other guitarists and the bassist, they're also playing microtonal instruments (probably all custom built by a company in Melbourne if I had to guess). Either way, this was the first song I first found and immediately fell in love with the band. Every fan where tell you how to approach their discography. My recommendation is to start with Nonagon Infinity (2016) and work your way forward in the discography. Their stuff before that is good but not on the level of their work from Nonagon onwards., Anyway, great review and welcome to the Gizzverse.

This was the first song of theirs I heard too! I got the recommendation when I read an interview with the lead singer/guitarist of phish. This is 1/3 of their microtonal albums. Try listening to Crumbling Castle for something completely different.

These guys have ridiculously incredible songs that are so repetitive and catchy. Check out their metal album PetroDragonic Apocalyse, 7 songs, all bangers, check out the track "Dragon"

They release like 3-4 albums a year though LOL🤣 they have released 25 albums since their debut in 2012!

I would check out some live stuff. I run a KGLW reacts channel and I have been doing it in order from their beginnings and I haven't reached this album yet but have heard Rattlesnake before. They release a ton of albums in different styles and I am just learning about them myself, hence the channel.

Starting off with microtonal stuff too 🤟🤘

Wow. If you like Rattlesnake on first listen of the entire band's discography, then you are going to fucking love the band. Don't get me wrong, Rattlesnake is one of my all-time Gizz favorites, but most vanilla listeners can't really get past the "repetitiveness" of the jam. For their greatest drum performances, definitely listen to Petro Dragonic Apocalypse. The entire album. Cavs is the name of the one drummer of the band now (the other drummer Eric left a couple years ago), and he is a fucking MACHINE. Most of their early drum performances shined because of the tightness of the two's synchronicity (like Rattlesnake), but now Cavs on his own has exploded into a monster that can't be tamed

Dude listen to Dragon by them if you like the drums

ironically, you probably picked the simples drums song in their entire discography. i hope you enjoy the weird and vast world that is king gizzard aka the best band in the world

i recommend you check out some of their more recent live material. they've progressed an incredible amount since 2020. their live shows are insane

You're gonna be inundated with Gizz requests so instead I'm gonna suggest Neu's song Hallogallo for where the repetitive vibes come from
