The intro and bridge are in 17/16. The first verse is 4/4 and 9/8. The pre-chorus is alternating 5/8 and 6/8 and straight 6/8 in the chorus. Some areas beyond alternate between 6/8, 5/8, 6/8 and 9/8. Such an amazing performance. Cheers!

I am also a "Portnoy" "DT" fan. On my birthday in 2010 ,as I waited on news of my first grandaughters birth,I caught the news that MP had left Dream Theater . I thought " well DT is surely ,and sorely going to search ,or die" . The guys got on top of it by performing ,recording ,and auditioning 7 of the finest drummers worldwide. It was apparent on the first audition ,Mike Mangini had set the bar very high ,and crushed the audition. I didnt think much of his work on his first album release, and felt DTs demise had begun. Mike M. just kept working hard, and has now solidified his position as "heir apparent" to MPs throne. This song is mind blowing, and MM ,is insane in his attack on the track. DT never missed a beat.

You need to listen to the title track. A View From The Top of the world. The drumming is even more insane and abstract than this.

...how do you remember an entire two hour show of this music? I've always preferred Mike Portnoys style but there is NO denying the incredible skill and oneness of Mangini and the music. Incredible. I saw a video of Mangini doing a large demo on a stage. He had two drum sets. One set up for a right handed drummer the other for a left handed drummer and he conducted the whole workshop seamlessly moving from one set to the other. If you were just listening you would have detected NO difference in the sound and figured he was just on a drumset. Whew. Hey, small suggestion, the mix on your comments during the video playback are very low and hard to make out. Perhaps turn your mike up a bit. Personally I wish to hear what you have to say. For a really fun viewing consider *Gergo Borlai meets Zildjian: **kzread.info/dash/bejne/aJeWldOjYLixobQ.html* On the off hand chance you haven't heard Gergo you're in for a treat...well you're in for a treat even if you have heard him. Very entertaining drummer.

@@johnforsberg9894 I think you misunderstood my comment. The _drums_ aren't live, but from the album. The drum audio doesn't match the drumming in the video.

It most definitely is. You can hear the kick drum sounds very different from the album. You can very obviously tell its the sound if the kit in front of him in a room and not the finished master....

I don't know why, but here he sounds fantastic. Grooving and relaxed, but every live clip I've seen of him he sounds so stiff and machine like, it's almost like listening to a midi drum track

That's so well put. I really enjoyed this but you're right. The live cuts of him he does have a stiff almost machine like cadence to his playing. I think that's a big reason I always preferred Portnoy.

Portnoy is an amateur compared to Mangini. Mangini is easily the best drummer in the history of music.
