Vinnie is incredibly humble about the near unattainable bar he set during the span of his career, man. This dude been the G.O.A.T. since the Dukes Of Hazzard 🏆

Honestly the GOAT in modern music. What a super smart and nice guy. Everyone who knows, knows the contribution to drumming Vinnie has made. He really is an enigma. I mean, there is no one that could play all of those styles, cotrectly, on all of those records, with all of those artists. There is only one...

Thanks for the interview! Unfortunately Vinnie was NOT part of the "VHS Instructional" wave. I heard that Rob Wallis approached him many times but to no avail. His performance on the Buddy Concert inspired generations. He was also in the lesser known Jeff Berlin VHS back then. That was about it. GRP Super Live with Dave Grusin. Pickins were slim back then for Vinnie video footage because he didn't really want folks to examine his playing (I suspect).

My brother had that Jeff Berlin video. His playing on the intro tune was absolute fire. I figure he didn't do a video because he was too busy doing something like 3 sessions per day to come up with a concept and write a script for an instructional video.

Thank you for this interview! It is fascinating but also worrying, what Vinnie is saying. He notices very clearly that the world is not moving in a good direction. Only the show counts - not the hard earned skills and the quality. If this is called "old school" fine, then I am old school too! I am glad that I had the privilege of seeing and hearing Vinnie Colaiuta live on stage - and experience the depth of his increadible capabilities. And I really hope to see him again - or is this the end of his career now? I hope not!

So what are Vinnie and Kirkee trying to get at? That many of today's drummers are all about blast beats and chops, or they are aspiring to play like their heroes. I want to play with a solid groove, in the pocket, with a little bit of spice thrown in when you don't expect it (like an extra kick or ghost note). I also am NOT Peart, or Copeland, or Colaiuta, or Philips, to name a few of my heroes. They all inspire me, but I still want to put my own signature on playing, even though I play drums for fun and as a hobby.

I think a beginner drummer would have trouble telling the difference between Vinnie, Dave Weckl, and Gregg Bissonette. But seasoned players can. It’s a bit unfair to say all younger players or instagram players sound the same, if you listen enough you can separate Maison Guidry and Mike Mitchell and Brian Evans
