This right here is exactly what I'm talking about. It doesn't matter how many albums you guys produce... doesn't matter how many sold out shows... you still keep it real with the ones that got u where u are. I'll never forget the first time I heard white washed. From "however I thank you, for this pen and ink ammunition. I thank you for the inspiration" and that breakdown put fire to my soul. I downloaded every song you guys ever pumped out and was part of my daily overseas motivation. No gym session was complete with out it. Not to mention when I was in a rough spell getting out of the Marine Corps just In the nick of time Rescue and Restore dropped... literally saved my life. I was out in the yard balling like child following lyrics to the top of my lungs. Idk what the neighbors thought but that hit me in so many ways and helped me pick my self back up in ways you could never know.. Matt thank you brother for shinning light into a genre of music that would otherwise continue to be saturated with negative energy. Keep fighting the good fight my man.. one last thing. Can we see a re imagined messengers album in the future? Or maybe chasing the dragon?

That super simple triplet fill that you broke down that sounded complex is an easy quick example of why I love Matt Greiner's drumming so much. Easy, punchy, in-the-pocket fills that are all based on fundamentals, yet executed in a way that makes it sound like something different and complex. He also creates some really good song structure, as he takes a huge part in the song-writing process.

Kick ass reaction/analysis! Matt is seriously such a one of a kind drummer. His approach to writing his drum parts is so unique. Since their first album “Thrillseeker” he always stood out to me. He’s probably one of my biggest inspirations of all time, and I appreciate all his hard work because I learned so much from him. Regardless, I loved your reaction to it, and you earned yourself a sub for sure. Look forward to more of your content.

Point taken, but don't resign yourself to that. Matt Greiner is all about form and fundamentals. Just take that triplet fill for example, after slowing it down you see that it's a super simple fill that just sounded complex. Matt is really good at making easy drumming sound hard and complex.

My old band opened for ABR I'm 2008 for several shows in Kentucky, Tennessee, and the Carolinas. They were the only band we played with where I would make sure to watch every set. The only other band I was fortunate enough to open for that blew me away with their musicianship was Misery Signals. What Matt puts on record is only a fraction of how skilled he is as a drummer, I wish he would play something out of metalcore and more in jazz so people could see how versatile he truly is.

So I have been playing drums for about a year and a half at this point, but I have always loved ABR, drums included. Their technical skill in all parts is just insane. I can play a few of their songs on guitar, but I just started studying Matt Greiner, and a few things I noticed are that he has AMAZING form/posture, he seems to always use single strokes, he loves chinas, and he loves blast beats. He put on a pretty sick clinic for Ziljian, but if you're looking for another one of their crazier songs, check out Back Burner. Playing it is a great workout, haha, and it showcases their love for more offbeat riffs really well. If you're looking for a good quality video to react to, his video of composure is nice as well. Also, fun fact: they are a christian band, and he is a total farmer boy haha. Oh! And their band was named after one of their ex girlfriends, August, who set their dog, Red, on fire. Extremely messed up, but still makes me chuckle when I hear their name now.

That story about the dog is false! Confirmed in an interview from the band. Didn’t stop me telling it to every person I showed the band to for years though (before I found out)

Yeah the dog story is 100% false, but everything else you said about Matt Greiner checks out.

I am both disappointed and relieved to hear the dog story is not true, haha, but Matt is still a beast.

@@GregHartmanMusic It's not your fault for believing it. The original vocalist apparently came up with the story when asked because he wanted to just be silly and have a crazy story for their band name when really there wasn't much to the band name origin at all.

I think a lot of the technique discrepancies are down to the musical style you learned in because I would play the kick patterns exactly like Matt does, it’s a metal thing always alternating feet being ready to speed up or slow down.

I guess you never check Japanese female metal band called LOVEBITES. They sounds like mix of 80's bands(Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Metalica, etc), all song in english. I think Lovebites popular in UK and Europe Recommended songs: Lovebites - Holy War Lovebites - Thunder Vengeance Thanks for check

Are you watching your videos in HD? They look about 480p tops which through the compression of your upload dampens the quality even further. Just a point of note

@8:48 "I have no idea what's going on." Pshh You can't instantly figure out the count when Matt just switches to 16/74 or whatever other madness he whips out sometimes out of nowhere for two measures and it works perfectly? come on, man.
