You can do that too. I don't mean right now. He is showing what humans, including you, are capable of. Do you really think Danny Carey is thinking "I'm playing polymetric 3 against 4," while playing? No, he is in the zone. One thing at a time. You don't start out with that drum kit and if you do you will be so overwhelmed. You can be whatever you want to be, BUT pay your dues and respect and be inspired. Don't think for a second any of the drum teachers reacting to this video will actually be able to play it.

I think the reason Tool as a band are so successful and just downright fantastic at what they do, is each member is so good at what they do. When this comes together, we all get to witness their genius. DC is just... how can you describe him? He is unreal he's that good

There's another part to this, this is all true, but the real reason they do so well together is the singer does not put himself ahead of the rest of the band. He's just another instrument. How he sits back in the shadows and lets everyone else shine equally. It really helps make them a band and not just some guys playing with a singer.

This video was much better than the version you took down. Have you ever tried his signature drum sticks? Have several drummer friends who use them and love them. Audio is much better. You're right about him being a motivator. My buddy's 14yr old son plays, so I gave him a copy of the new album and he was blown away. His parents aren't too happy because he is now practicing all the time, but the young man thanks me every time I see him. Got to love it. Thanks for sharing your insight and knowledge. It's so funny. In college my roommate was a drummer. Music was his major. I got introduced to some great stuff just because. I became more of a jazz guy. I even brought a Billy Cobham album to a show and he signed it. One of my favorite things. But Danny is next level. I can see four things going on at once. It's amazing actually. Those quiet poly-rhythms are just mind boggling.

Ha Ha, its THE teacher (Danny) teaching the teacher! I saw TOOL play in November- (2nd time) at Little Caesar's Arena in Detroit, NOBODY plays better live than these guys! They brought the house down! Phenomenal stage and light show as well. All four band members are so musically gifted in their own way, Maynard, Danny, Justin, and Adam. Fear Inoculum album gets better every time I listen to it! Tool does not get the recognition they deserve compared to so many of the so called "music bands" out there now, but hey, who cares; they're only worth about $50 million a piece!

"Danny's an individual. Nobody plays like him." Exactly what i thought after seeing the Vic Firth video. The first Tool song I heard was Aenema, i was more hooked to the odd drumming more than anything in that song. And a few years later Lateralus dropped and I listened to Schism and again the drums were something special. Never heard a whole song being played on snare off like that before. That's where I knew Danny Carey is no ordinary drummer and nobody ever plays like him.
