Glad you liked it Andrew! Chris Allison has a few other great videos on his channel, certainly worth checking out. Also, Troy Wright (who also has played and toured with Plini) is another amazing drummer I'd recommend checking out. He plays with much more intensity than Chris (I think Troy is more of a traditional "metal" drummer) and some people prefer that, but I'm a big fan of Chris to be honest, with his delicate details and dynamics. He has a load of live drum cam videos on KZread when he's on stage with Plini (as does Chris Allison, actually).

Chris is one of my all time favorites. Wish Chris was around when I was growing up and learning the drums. He has such a beautiful touch.

Now this is my jam. The best elements of jazz and rock in one song and a great performance. His foot work is incredible.

I recommend the song Paper Moon by Plini. Marco Minneman played on that album and was the first I heard from Plini. Instant fan!

One of the things that I like about channels like yours is not only the insight, but the introduction to music. The drums (which are exceptional - that is your expertise) is one great aspect, but hearing someone have a firm grasp on playing emotionally on guitar always catches me. I looked up Plini, he is a fan of Satriani and Via is a fan of his (both of which have been in my setlist as a guitarist). But as soon as the song started, I said to myself "The Gnarly Geezer is still alive!" (That is Allen Holdsworth's nickname for himself.) He was one of my top 3 influences in playing growing up. I have never heard anyone come close to his feeling and style, until Plini. I think that I am going down a KZread rabbit hole today and creating a new playlist. BTW, the harp is fantastic. Just a good song overall by masters of their instruments.

Respect to whoever managed to sneak a Hermann Hesse reference into this song title. The Glass Bead Game, or the Magister Ludi, is a damned good book, but Ho-Lee Sheyit is it a dense read. If you're willing to take the trip, no one does mid-20th German Existentialism quite like Hesse. Just be sure to keep a dictionary handy, you'll likely need it. I did.

Im a simple man. I see PLINI and I hit click. You know FOR SURE it’s gona be gorgeous

That K-ride is incredible! Look how long it visibly resonates for after he's hit it. It's just "oozing" clarity! I've a feeling that Chris is capable of a LOT more but he's choosing to play-the-song for the song. At 7:53 his ride -hand moves over to the HH and he begins playing 4 long(ish) bars, each starting with a tasty snare lick and then some toms. At the beginning of his 4th snare-lick , I'm sure he (accidently?) did some gravity blasts on the ghost-notes. But these were no ordinary gravity blasts, oh no; these were "DOUBLES" gravity blasts! (8:10 exactly). To me, this didn't sound quite like a buzz roll. Amazing drummer!

Just love Plini. Seen them live twice and they are the sort of band that make complexity sound simple and are just a bunch of mates having a great time doing the thing they love. Thanks. If you want something similar try out Chon or Outrun the Sun.

By the way, I love the vintage Rogers snare! I have a Silver Sparkle vintage that my Dad used. He bought it new in the early 60’s and I still have it. All original hardware.

I agree the ride cymbal & his rack toms have a Jazz tone. 👍👍

Chris is probably one of the Most relaxed drummers i have seen thus far on the channel.. I heard Plini some years ago for the fist time.. I remember i was also at that time checking out bands like Chon, Animals as Leaders, and music from that genre.. And thought they were interesting, but they kinda got lost in the loop of so much other music i was listening to at the time..

I'm back with good headphones and your voice has way more bass now. Yeah!!! OMG that is such a good song. Wow. Love it. This is why I love this channel, sure I like to hit drums with sticks and stuff but I really like finding these new bands that I would otherwise have never heard of. And great new drummers that make me look awful, just love it. That is also the perfect kick drum sound, I need those beaters too.

Yes and YES!!

Chris is a fantastic drummer in my view. He is also a great human being - very humble for such a master of the instrument. I have been fortunate to have had five or six Zoom lessons from Chris on odd time signatures. He is super polite with a relative novice (me). As far as comparing him with Troy Wright - you can't - they are different drummers. He is like a Bill Bruford to Troy's Alan White on Yes. Now Troy is different than Alan too but for Chris every drum note is thoughtfully planned and placed. Indeed the double pedals are going crazy underneath but the notes on top are relatively understated. But Chris plays for the song and this in my view is a masterclass for our instrument.

Plini is so damn cool

Smooth jam. Satriani/Vai-esque at the start. Only, to me, snare needs more volume around the two-thirty mark to three minutes. (I see him hitting snare at 2:42 and no sound) Cool flowing composition...

Plini is brilliant and Chris Allison is a wonderful player for sure.

Compositionally, I prefer "Handmade Cities" That album is full of great melodies. It just sounds more complete to my ears. The sound production of the last one is incredible, though.

Gorgeous sounding kit and cymbals! Some nice playing too. I love the backing track, but if I'm being completely honest, I found some of the double bass patterns a bit distracting and almost clashing with the rest of the music at times. Just a personal observation.

A while back you mentioned the need for female drummers on one of the Matt Garstka videos. Check out Luana Dametto of CRYPTA. Also check out her replacement in her former band NERVOSA, Eleni Nota. Both incredible drummers, although the genre is a little niche.
