I would like to add to your statement Gustavo. Alex doesn't need stick tricks to show off, playing these kinds of fills and licks with seemingly no effort is showing off in and of itself. He looks bored, and that's the most show off part of his playing

Alex joining Trivium was one of the best things to ever happen to the band, let them write and play the music they always wanted with NO restriction. Both him and the band deserve so much more credit and attention

I love pretty much every single Trivium song, I liked what every drummer did, but Travis used to be my favorite, because he was an absolute beast of a drummer. That's until Alex came into the band, because this guy is like... he fits the band so well. He does a million little things and none of that shit sounds out of place. Wasn't Betrayer the first Trivium song ever to have a blast beat? I remember it sounding a bit weird to me at first, but he makes it work so well. There aren't words to express how much Alex's joining kicked everything into God mode for Trivium.

Alex Bent is the breath of fresh air TRIVIUM needed to get phenomenal again. He is killer in really every song. I love this guy. Never plays anything not outstanding.

@@AndrewRooneyDrums Apparently, when recording this album (Alex's first with Trivium), he had to to a second take on a couple of the songs because the first take sounded too perfect. He played the songs TOO PERFECTLY, the whole way though, on his FIRST TAKE.

Glad you've gotten around to Alex, he's one of my personal favourite drummers. He's been a breath of fresh air to Trivium. First album he was on was Grammy nominated (this track is from that) Just look at wear mark on the snare, its dead centre, unbelievable accuracy. He's such lovely guy too, if you reach out I'm sure he'll chat with you (he's a real drum nerd)

Thank GOD you finally got introduced to Alex Bent!!! Thank you cox for introducing him!! I have listened to Trivium for about 20yrs now, and he is by far my favorite out of all they have had. He is so clean, so composed, and has such a technically sound playing style! Trivium as a whole is just amazing! Especially how the singer can go from screaming to having such a great "clean vocal" sound. Plus their melodic tendencies just put it over the top with their solos and such. "The Sin and the Sentence" is my favorite Trivium song ;P

That's something I have always loved about watching Alex play. He plays so well and he looks so calm as he does it. Like it's effortless. It also amazes me because I think he said that he never had a drumming instructor or anything but just learned off KZread. Not sure if that's fully true but I know he learned a ton just off of KZread, watching people he liked and practicing their techniques.

Awesome to see Alex make it to the channel. He is someone who has done their homework with drumming lineage. He is a big fan of fusion drummers like Weckl, Vinnie, Dennis, etc and I would love to see him play some music in that style

I'm so glad you got to Alex Bent! This guy is like 27y old (something like that) and did an OUTSTANDING job on The Sin and The Sentence record by Trivium, and EVEN MORE OUTSTANDING JOB on their latest What the Dead Men Say! You'll be mind blown if you see the drum fill at the ending of "The Revanchist". I'm telling you!

Alex is one of the best I’ve seen live but I can’t help but laugh every time, he could be in the most complex/difficult part of the song and just looks like he couldn’t be any more bored. Nothing but respect!

What most fascinates me about Alex Bent, is that he plays this metal style, that use to be so traditional and all the same, but he is SO creative about his drum lines! It's all think of before he sits on the drums and record!

I saw Trivium a while ago in Minnesota, meet and greet with the band Alex was so down to earth , show was incredible, Alex had me captivated.

Alex Bent is a beast, live as well. He plays everything to a tee, and makes it interesting as well. The story of his introduction into the band is really awesome as well. Top tier drummer, he really came in and gave the band what they needed to prosper and make what they wanted to make.

I loved your review of this. It's awesome that even though you're a classical drummer, you can appreciate the technique and skill that goes with this style of music. There's too many people that are "musicians" that say music like this is "just noise" and it blows my mind how ignorant that mindset is.

There are several technically great metal drummers. One thing I love about Alex and others like him is he understands how to make the song dynamic. Just just full out the whole song, but adds in some groove beats to break up the fast power stuff.

And he's even better on their new album. He's an absolute machine. I get Gene Hoglan vibes when it comes down to how technical he is.

The best part is that Alex is a self taught drummer by watching drummers play on KZread. Which is crazy, because he makes it look so easy.

He looks so casual doing this because he's originally a Death Metal drummer. You should check out the drumming he did with Arkaik or Brain Drill. Check out his drum cam video for Blade Grasp Priesthood. Trivium is lucky to have him. The bastards.

This guy is a super clean hitter again. Clinical to put it mildly. By far Triviums best drummer. Hopefully he will be there for the long haul.

His work with Arkaik was a sight to behold live.

Alex Bent was the thing Trivium was missing, he is Masterclass!

Alex is a machine for sure, I personally just love the little embellishments/emphasis he throws in with the cymbal/bell work, not to mention the precision, stamina & fantastic technique all around.

Reason why Trivium’s my favourite band right now! Alex is an absolute monster.

He is an amazing drummer. Especially when you learn that he was self taught at the age of 11 and only born in 93. This guy will continue to evolve and will be an absolute monster.

Soilwork is one of his favorite bands. You need to check out some Dirk Verbeuren! I've seen Alex live a couple times and he's a beast and super super nice guy. I'm just waiting for him to finally drop some playthroughs from the What the Dead Men Say album.

I agree totally for this you said about dampening.Is from all known that in these speeds the bass drum not sounds clearly if you play without triggers only if you have 3 mics for bass drum only one at beater, one at inside the bass drum and a 3rd half meter outside the bass drum hole but good mics costs too much so with one trigger you do the job.Playing with trigger gives you the oportunity to dampening full the bass drum to avoid leacks of bss drum at upside mics also you can tighten full the heads so you have better rebound and is more easy to play faster.

I think a lot of metal drummers in 15 years will talk about Alex Bent being an influence. He played in many bands before his long term gig in trivium

I have found that the if I give a different kind of music a chance and try to understand where it is coming from I will develop an appreciation for it. I may not always develop a love for it but I can appreciate the musicians and the musicianship. I have learned not to dismiss or berate music that i do not enjoy, but to realize that everyone brings their own experiences to the music that they enjoy.

Always kept a black light reactive Alice in Wonderland pillow inside my bass drum.

He uses triggers on the bass drums, that's why he has so much pillows in there. They deaden the head entirely to prevent miss-triggering

Even in a large symphonic band you would only use an unmuted bass for certain notes. At least half of all my bass drum strikes, aside from those on the marching bass, were followed by a towel to mute.

Believe it or not, this guy is a solid jazz drummer too from my understanding

I wish he did a playthrough of Sickness unto you, a song of their latest album What the dead men say ... if you liked Trivium or his drumming on Trivium i might suggest their two latest album , he joined the band in 2017 when they recorded The sin and the Sentence where this song is from ... they have changed drummers 4 times now i think but to now have Alex Bent might be their best decision ! He kills it and really helped Trivium to the elite level they are at now!

not the biggest Trivium fan, but that kid has chops... he is about my age, I think middle twenties ( I started fucking late with having an interest in drumming, probably around 20 or so, having no kit available, no lessons or anything for a loong time, so progress has been... slow and difficult for me to get. At least I got a drum teacher, even when at the moment we can kinda just do skype lessons and practice pad stuff with Corona around) and makes me wanna throw my sticks in the trash. But also the earlier Trivium drummer, whose Name I forgot, has some really cool licks in the songs.

Yea alex is just dead faced the entire time.. he gets the head twitch/ jerk on some of the fast reaches but thats a must.. i have a few songs where i play the same style with the multiple breaks and switches, halftimes, chorus, just real structured songs but my ass is always tense as hell trying to make sure i hit all the bells and rims...

If you need gels on your drums and or stuff in your bass, is that the correct set to play? I understand the budget reason but...In my opinion there are so many different sets available and all kinds of heads to put on them that I am sure they make a combo that works for your sound without dampeners or muffling the drums.

not to be that guy again but the bass drum is crammed to capacity because it's triggered rather than mic'd and they don't want the raw sound coming through the overheads! you can see the cable coming round the floor tom to the rim of the right kick where the sensor is mounted when the camera pans out in front of the kit.

You should check out Evgeny Novikov from the band Slaughter to prevail drum play through of their song Demolisher.

Trivium just released a newer song that is really good. It's trivium fall into your hands Alex bent drum playthrough. It's as good as it gets if you want to see a good one
