DRUM SOLO USING TEXTURES, TIMBRES, ENERGY and LOGIC PRO SOUND EFFECTS | NO GROOVE NECRESSARY👍🏾
Музыка
In this Jazz Drummer Q-Tip of the Week drum set lesson, I take a 4 minute drum solo to demonstrate how to keep a drum solo interesting using textures, sounds, timbres, varied intensity levels and energies, to create a solo that conveys various feelings and emotions at different moments. I also experimented with sound sound scaping and sound effects in Logic Pro to add to the ambience and atmosphere of my drum solo. All musicians should try this!

Thank you! Cheers!
Awesome job! I tell all of my students that they must learn the melody of the song that they are soloing to. They also have to build their own percussion instrument name it and write and perform a piece on it in class. Makes for some very interesting and creative ideas. I believe that this helps them think into the musicality of their solos on the Drumset. As teachers we must push our students to the most creative self.

A master class on how to use the drum set as a musical instrument. Wonderful use of dynamics and subtle shadings, plus the solo remains interesting throughout… Thank you for posting, Quincy!😎

Thanks for the homework Joel:) I’ll definitely check Dan out. Hope all is well!
Your drum kit sounds absolutely amazing, especially your ride & how you use it. Could you recommend any Jazz rides that don’t cost like 500€+? I was pretty lucky to have picked great crashes crashes (17’ and 18’ sweet k series) the suit any genre. I can play everything from Jazz to heavy metal and they always sound awesome even though at the time I didn’t really know what I was doing. Unfortunately, my 20’ meinl custom ride seems to only be suited for rock, it has a pretty clear and loud sound, nothing of the jazzy dark sounds and crashableness that I would it to have

Try out the zildjian Renaissance ride. Pretty versatile and sounds great for jazz.
Drums sound nice and tight...mind if I ask, what heads you are using, and what frequency they are at?

Very nice Quincy…….. I heard a little of a couple of famous drummers in your solo, and I can tell who your influences were. I noticed a brief thing you did that was similar to what J Jones use to do. I read a story about J Jones throwing a cymbal at Bird when he was at an open mike session. Charlie hadn’t developed yet and was still very young. Imagine someone throwing a cymbal at Bird, I’ll bet he regretted that later. Funny thing is , I don’t have any recordings of J Jones on Birds record dates, hmmmmmm I wonder why ?
