Me being a normal kid: Heard drum signals: Me: let’s go to battle
I didn't realize that drums were that involved with relaying basic commands on the battlefield.

I naturally knew about bugles, just not about drums. I'm not surprised. I just hadn't heard about it before.
Beautiful snare there.
I’m honestly astounded from how clear the drums are. It kills all sound around it, no doubt this would be heard in combat.
I just bought this book called “… and called the Folks together” A Manual on the Use of Fife & Drum in the American Continental Army. Excellent resource for anyone interested in this. I randomly was exposed a few weeks ago and learning the fife. Fascinating stuff
@markkreps 1st march is 43rd quickstep. then i went through the facing movements in order, right face, left face, and right about face. then after that i played drummers call. then i played to arms, (a.k.a. the long roll) and finally i played pioneers march
Great post! AS a drummer and history fan I thank you! I can hear you fine.
Thanks! I've read the Revolutionary War Blue Book Rules, looking for info on drum 'signals,' but this was a kick, hearing what at least some of them sounded like. (Doing research for my upcoming book, The Drummer Boy).

I saw this comment and decided to go check out the book, i liked it quit a lot! Not enough books based in that era I find
snare drums are pretty loud. I used to play bagpipes in a band with the snares, tenors and Bass. the snares would always lead us off with two drum rolls. pretty cool with the signals.
Wow, This was extremely informative. Thank you!
Thank you for the demonstration it was very cool 🥁looks like a floor Tom cut in half I would love to make one just for the heck of it.I wonder who made thease drums 🤔
Great playing, and the tuning is spot on!
Always a joy to find interesting vids from more tham 10 years ago.
Cool stuff. I stumbled on a rev. war drums video somewhere and have been looking around to hear more. Very nice drumming!
Bro ...... I love it!!! I'm working on creating a music museum. I would love to speak to you about what you are sharing!! This is what I had in mind and you are!
This was used for something at school. Helped us all out thank you.

I want to do this next year for a home football game lol
I have a spring pole lathe (with a real 16' spring pole) and I have been turning drum sticks for military drum application. I was wondering how they would be used. This was great. Thanks
I have the exact same drum. My dad played it in some bicentennial parades back in 1976.
I love how KZread threw this into my mix.
Cool uniform I just picked up a smaller drum a 16 by 18 rope drum. I love the drum calls I just switched from five so sounds great
We kindly thank you for this information.
Thanks for posting. Need to practice learning these. Huzzah!
Very nice! from fifes and drums of Fréjus, France.
You are so awesome and so cool 😎
This is a great teaching tool! I have seen several of your other post from "09", are you going to post any more? I have been in the hobby for... ah... 38 years (gee I was only 16 when I started) and one of my biggest complaints is that no one is willing to learn (or even use) fife & drum as it should be used. I have more than once chased fife & drum off the field because the "field concert" made commanding a real pain. Have a drum on each company say then play the command and there it is.
Thanks. good drumming, museum quality drum and uniform. I would have liked it if you played Three Camps, my favorite as a drummer in the 9the Pennsylvania Regiment (Brigade of the American Revolution).
Awesome! I do have a question: would it be good if I used the tunes here for my mod for Rome: total war? It's based on the Seven years war, but it's pretty close to the revolution in time.
i like his spirit
I'm with the 43rd, very helpful.
Awesome technique.
The wind distortion conflicts with voice so I didn't get to hear what drum rolls go with the signals.

@posest hay anytime im probably going to put in some more calls, marches, and quicksteps =)
Where can one find such drums? What are the going prices? Thanks Luis in Boston
thanks! this is really old footage, ive been playing for abouti should really get back into playing more often, ive started to lose my fluidness
That was good I could follow and copy along thanks alot.
How far are you from Centralia? Are you even still on youtube? Good video.
Where do you get a drum like that?
Love the uniform, God save the King!
Is there a drum call for firing by Companies, Battalions, Brigade, Division, Corp and by Army? Because with all the noise of combat, the soldiers in the ranks could hear the commands of the officers.
What kin of drum is that and how much would it cost
Cool!
@markkreps no problem!
nice job.
Where can you buy this type of American Revolution period drum? I belong to an SAR color guard and am looking for a quality snare of this style for our ceremonial appearances.
are you in the 22nd regiment of foot by any chance?
I'd like to ask, your drum's heads are made of leather or are these modern plastic heads?
I cannot tell the difference between left and right face 🤣 and I was a percussionist
Cool
need more for scout troop
My good sir, I would still like to see a good video of Rev War Fife & drum commands, perhaps a demo of commands as they should be played in the field and camp and then a demo on how a command is given by the commander to the fife & drum majors, played and repeated at the company level. There is plenty of music out there but literally nothing command wise, that can be used as an example or teaching tool.
Hehe Epic~
Bol 🔥
@Dandy5th yeah this is actually a REALLY old video ive gotten MUCH much better since this vid. but yeah my brand new ones i posted up a couple days ago are the drum parts for certain songs i really enjoy playing, i should post them individually instead of one big video
are you wearing a sword? if so were did you get it? (web site) please. i am wanting to become a rev war drummer and would like a sword for my drummers uniform.

that's G Gedney Godwin, the Sutler of Misery Mountain, based in Valley Forge. And it looks (offhand) like the standard Infantry hanger of that time period. I have one of his Baskethilt Broadswords and its served me well for almost 40 years.

So, Would they be referring to the British or American Revolution in this video? Because now I am confused. These signals were from THE REVOLUTIONARY war. "Drum signals of the revolution": American history.

They'd be referring to the American revolution. This is a drummer from a foot Regiment:)
