SP-12, Roland R-8, Kwai R-50e and Linn are my favourites, but, in general, I think all of them have such cool vibe. Except that I didn’t particularly like Korg drum machine, although the Korg synthesizers are some of my favorites :)

The Linndrum.... And there is another nice machine out there before sp 12....the Drumulator! Nice Italo disco sound from both of these machines. Laserdance......Micro timing artefacts that makes everything step programmed groovy right out of the box, without spending time on experimenting with groove templates. Sad to say, prices goes up and up on these hardware's, but if you got the chanse of buying the hardware, do it! It's a real joy. A tip- if working with samplepacks of these mashines in the daw, try to make a groove template from an old recording using the hardware machine to get the micro timing simulated and then put the samples and let the grove template trig the sounds, then you can get close the hardware. It's the artefacts of the micro timing that make it not feelin stiff and more human in a kind of perfect way I guess the internal clocks together with the early trigging circuits in these lovely machines was not so "perfect" like today's daws, ...like us humans, not so "perfect" ... That artefacts together with great samples and artwork/craft made these machines icons.

Controversial opinion, the 606 is 👌 probably my favorite of the group. Ill stick to sample packs though, cause drum programming without velocity or micro timing is 🤮

I agree, nice to have all samplepacks together with the daw, doing our own timing tweeks and dynamics etc. but..a big but....many of these all machines have a kind of nice micro timing artefacts by it's own, for example Linndrum or sp 12 and Oberheim -very groovy on its own. Even if programming rough, the beats just "sits" Not so stiff at all, I guess that is why many of these machines are great to have as hardware's. It's feel/micro timing built in without spending time to make it swing or sound groovy and using groove templates etc, that we now often need to spend time on just to make it moore natural "groovy". Nowadays everything is super tight/stiff from our perfect daws, and we have to spend time on making micro timing artefacts as a work step by its own, trying to simulate artefacts that made these machines sounded groovy out of the box. We nowadays working backwards!

@@magnusvanttinen7855 you can add randomized timing in fl. Idk about other DAWs but I assume its possible
