I would like to see the 60s guitar players like page/beck/clapton/hendrix to play like this while singing. Pete is really special as a guitarist. The interesting thing is that a big part if this performance is improvised! Amazing!

Seen em live w KMoon. As good a rhythm player as he is it's his sacred leads that are also a part of the whole. Pete is the finest R&R guitarist ever considering his body of work & his writting..the whole thing. Also he has the 50's connection to the original Rockers..the High Priests of R & R. His bandmates pushed him to a level no one else could go to as IMHO he had the best rhythm section ever

I grew up on The Who...driving my family crazy because I played them SO much from the age of about 14 to 21. Then, I'm embarrassed to say that I thought I'd out grown the music. Now in my 40's a couple of years ago I took up the guitar. Now I can appreciate this man's incredible talent from a new perspective, and I've rediscovered all the old songs I never really stopped loving. Thanks Mr. Townshend, you've given much to many.

Pete is a Master of his craft. He is self taught in all the instruments he plays. My contention is , if his music required him to use the Oboe as a base instrument, he would be a great oboist, not out skill with the Oboe, but out of need to convey his music. He said up until late in his career, he was reluctant to play with other guitarists, as his skills were there for his needs, not as a "Guitar Player".

I read that one of the reasons Pete is so F'n great at strumming the guitar so quickly is because of the influence that Flamingo guitarists had on him during his early development as a player, when he plays you hear that same Flamingo flair, style, and speed in in his playing. There are four people that pop into my head (spoiler alert: one's a surprise at the end) who come to mind that have that level of prowess and speed; Pete of course, Roy Clark from Hee Haw, and believe it or not, Charo. Of course their styles were very different, but if you've ever watched Roy Clark do his thing, you'll see he was more than a world class guitar player. His wrist was lightening quick, he was among the best of the best as a contemporaneity guitarist. And then there's Charo, remember her, the choochi choochi lady from the seventies, she of Love Boat/Fantasy Island guest star fame? Well she's considered one of the best Flamingo guitarists on the world, and just like the pinball wizard and the Hee Haw man, she has got such a subtle wrist. If you doubt that, and don't believe me, just look her up and you'll see, she's a complete F'n Flamingo playing bad ass genius on guitar; no shit it's true. What strange bedfellows, Pete Townshend, Roy Clark, and Charo, but all three can play their asses off, and they all have that triple speed wrist we all wish he had. I guess I would be remiss is I didn't mention the fastest guitarist in the history of the world, Steve Austin: The Six Million Dollar Man, that's right, a man barely alive and yet somehow faster than a speeding Pete Townshend, more powerful than a Roycomotive, able to leap tall Charo's in a single bound. We can rebuild him, make him better than he was, better, stronger, faster. Steve Austin is that man, and he never even took guitar lessons, go figure. Cue the music....kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z2SlpJhtftPAmbA.html

I'm SO lucky I was there. This for me is still the best live solo version of Drowned I've ever seen Pete play. AND he forgets the words. Such a real version. His playing is extraordinary. And he actually gets lost in it so it becomes transcendent. (it is of course a devotional song to Meher Baba) Shame we had to suffer the Stereophonics singer butcher Substitute that night, but they were the biz at the time i guess. It was a MAGICAL night.
