I lack sympathy for people who live on the beach in places known for hurricanes and tropical storms. These are not the houses of people who have no choice about where they live.

Not true. Look up New Orleans, and north Houston, where the severely polluted properties of black and brown people is all they can afford. Cancer Alley is its nickname.

Seems to be a consistent occurrence. If the water makes it above the stilts, then we have a story 🤷🏿‍♀️

There is no story needed. These people bought beachfront homes that will inevitably be destroyed by the ocean. End of story.

But this time we see a difference . The houses are now built 8-10 feet above the predicted flood plain , roof is intact because hurricane anchors firmly attach it to the structural frame.

I was a building official during super storm Sandy. To call it mayhem is an understatement. It's a waste of taxpayer resources and money when you're providing insurance for people that didn't get insurance on houses cuz they lived by the water and it cost too much. We footed the bill only to save towns from their tax revenue dropping. They'd have no consideration to just not live beyond their means and spend less. So they have to keep the machine alive and that means all taxables need to be taxed!

If you live by a volcano it can erupt, If you drive a big truck it gets bad gas mileage. And if you live by the water your house can be flooded. Why didn't you have insurance or have enough of it? I'm sick of footing these costs.

I don't understand homes being built that close to the water and especially not on stilks. Not should not be insurable because all of us bear the costs. At the minimum, if insurable, a separate pool of insurance.
