Drone Flyers Guide to Cornwall 2022

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I’ll m looking at how it’s possible to fly a drone in some amazing coastal locations in Cornwall. Some of these are world recognised sites and you have to take some steps to fly in these locations without breaking the law. I look at things you need to do before flying and steps I take to minimise any risk to people or wildlife and property. The National Trust and English Heritage also have some strict rules on drone flight and I look at that too

The National Trust may own that land but not the airspace above it. As long as you take off and land off their property they have very little powers to stop you. They may reference their bylaws, however the latest bylaws are from 1965 and a tenuous link to "vehicles or conveyances" (a UAS is neither).

Yeah that’s right they don’t own the airspace and their bylaws are very tenuous. I’d rather not have that argument with some NT employees though and avoid confrontation

Really great video, I could suggest a couple more locations if I may. Lamorna and also Cape Cornwall. I know that there is some NT property around there of course, but they are also stunning locations, like the ones you have identified already. Thanks for the great advice.

I have a couple of comments, firstly, your talking head shot needs a better lighting setup, the audio saves you. Secondly, there are so many restrictions in Cornwall that to encourage people to fly who are from outwith the area is quite selfish, local drone pilots are trying to keep within the guidlines / laws / keep on the right side of the local ATC's that it really doesn't help. If you were going to put some useful info our there it might be useful to list the ATC's telephone numbers you have used to gain permission to fly, especially around St Michaels Mount and areas within restricted zones.

Thanks for your comment, I do need some better lighting yes, I'm working on that. Maybe you misunderstood me as I wasn't encouraging people to break rules, but just get long shots and not fly over the sensitive areas. I do have the link to my video showing how to get approval for ATC in the description as I mentioned in the video.

Trying to win a DJI M30 T drone, would be nice to get into flying as a career change. now that the Heliport at Penzance has gone would you still need permission to fly? also permission to fly near Kynance as the Predanack air field is close by, would you have to contact RNAS culdrose ( I know people who work in the control tower) . great video , how easy is it to get qualified to fly?

The best way to get into the drone business is work out what services you want to offer, then work out what tools you need for that service. I like most of us justified buying a drone in order to start the business when really it was a fun thing to do. I’m now finding my feet and slowly recouping the money I’ve spent out. Of course there’s always the latest and greatest drone just released that you need to buy! As for the airspace, I see the heliport FRZ is now listed as ‘legacy’ I’ve not come across this before, but it seems the term just means you have to contact the FRZ through phone and you cannot apply through the app. A bit misleading! As for kynance cove then you’d need to contact Predannack ATC for permission to fly.

thanks, I didn't win, back to gardening. looks like there are many options for work using drones including search and rescue with larger drones.

Shame you didn’t win! Lots of options around making money with drones, it’s just working out what your area of interest is. Last thing you want to do is things that don’t interest you! That becomes a boring job very quickly. Plenty of opportunity to photograph some amazing scenery where you are
